Joan Crawford won an Oscar in 1945 for MildredPierce. Her latter years were spent in psychological thriller and horror movies, and an appearance in TheManFromUNCLE. She was one of the biggest stars of the golden age of Hollywood. One of her famous quotes was “I never go outside unless I look like Joan Crawford the movie star. If you want to see the girl next door, go next door.”
Her final film was Trog, not quite as bad as some critics make out.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
@Sir Miles said that Basil Rathbone was the screens best Sherlock Holmes a few weeks ago…here are some of the posters…Nigel Bruce deserves praise as Watson, as well. What is surprising is the lack of Holmes being mentioned in the latter posters…maybe the duo were so ingrained into the public’s awareness that it didn’t need highlighting?
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Excellent posters and plenty of watchable movies too. The Scarlet Claw is a favourite.

I’ve seen all those…love them ๐๐ป
I'm currently reading a novel by Robert J Harris called A Study In Crimson…it’s a Sherlock Holmes novel set in 1942 and the author says his version of Sherlock and Watson are very much Rathbone and Bruce…I can only ever hear the distinctive voice of Rathbone for Holmes now anyway ๐ค
Bert I. Gordon lived up to his initials (BIG) by producing and directing glorious pulp movies usually containing giant or miniaturised characters and creatures. The effects were mainly average down to woeful, but they all were entertainingly silly yarns. He didn’t call himself MR. BIG for nothing.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Smashing posters. One favourite of mine there (the Clint Eastwood, of course) and it's nice to see a film starring Hedley Lamarr. Oh, sorry, that's Hedy.

I’ve always enjoyed The Adventures of Robin Hood…Errol Flynn is great in that - as is (as always) Basil Rathbone - even if he plays a baddie in it ๐
I also liked Victor Mature in Samson & Delilah..marvellous ๐๐ป
The last poster is interesting - a film made in 1975 set in 2024 - I have seen it but I’ve forgotten how they portray the world in our present year now. It was very good and directed by western stalwart LQ Jones.

a post apocalyptic radioactive desert, I think they begin by telling us World War Four lasted two minutes. a mutant telepathic dog, who helps our hero find women in exchange for food, because he's lost his sense of smell. an underground civilization that looks like a parody of a Thornton Wilder small town, mostly inhabited by fascist robots. Pretty much what we have today.

I remember watching At The Earth’s Core during a wet day on holiday in Wales…the first two films mentioned above, I’ve never heard of…๐ค

Wow - haven’t seen any of those ๐ฑ

Yes, Trog is no.8 on the list of top 100 most enjoyable bad movies, as compiled by the Razzies
Nice posters. I've only seen "The Karate Killers" (big surprise there) and "Torture Garden" so I must not be a Crawford fan.
I hadn’t realised Crawford went down the horror movie route ๐
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane is great.

I've got these in a box set, love them. On YouTube you can find colourised versions of some ๐คฎ.
I don't know why the later posters do that; usually series characters are highlighted.

Class posters for terrible movies! Unless you like that sort of thing ....
I’ve always liked films about invisibility…
I loved Claude Rains in the first one ๐๐ป
Love them all!
Got this set recently with all the above movies, watched them all at least three times.
Great set of movies @Barbel hours of fabulous viewing ๐
A random assortment…

Science-fiction posters today…and The Green Slime artwork portrays our own Luciana Paluzzi…
Lovely. Some excellent movies there.
I’ve always liked Westworld…
Some foreign movie posters…
The last poster - the film was called Vampyres in the UK - is a very stylish horror movie released in 1974.
Love the skulls inside "007".
I’m sure I had the top image on a tin plate once over ๐ค
Always good to see foreign posters ๐

Great posters, and even a couple of good movies there.
