It looks like Sam Hober and Aklasu make the best grenadine ties... anyone else make good ones in the $100 range?
Yes. Consssssiderably.

Chipp, Hober, Kent Wang, Shibumi and Drakes are all excellent. John Hentric and Charles Tyrewhit are a definite step down but ok if you get a good sale and are wearing it under a sweater.
Thanks for the suggestions!
And for knitted ties? Any recommendations?
I really like the slightly transparent style of the knit.
Here you go :)

Kent Wang or, if on a budget, Spier and McKay.
I have had a T M Lewin navy knitted tie for a few years which I like. I prefer the pointed end to the more common flat end:
Keep in mind that all grenadine silk comes from two makers in Italy, and recently one maker bought the other one. The silk is the same quality no matter how much you pay for the tie. Some will use better quality interfacings than others and may sew them better. Kent Wang may be the best value, especially if you want a garza grossa like Connery wore in all his Bond films except Goldfinger. Sam Hober is my favourite because you can get it in any width or length you want. They can also make them untipped like Connery's were.
Since you also mentioned knitted ties too, I love the Turnbull & Asser knitted ties. They're the best I have. Knitted ties can vary a good deal. The better ones have a more pronounced texture. The ones Mason & Sons and Benson & Clegg sell are great too. Most cheap ones won't give you the Goldfinger look. They often knot too large.
The Orbis Tie by Aklasu was a limited edition piece and is sold out now. It's a fantastic tie and I recommend it if you can manage to get one.
