I wouldn't be upset with Mescal as choice if it did eventually turn out to be him, he's very of the now and the ladies certainly like him. To be frank, this rumour is more believable than the bollocks The Sun keep printing about Taylor-Johnson being announced as Bond next week, even if it doesn't quite convince.

I must say I did think of the idea of EON not using two actors but going for a single younger actor and then using makeup/ visual trickery to make him look older and younger and have the film set in the present time and past.
Something like how Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale play younger and older versions of their characters in the film The Prestige.

I'd really like someone here to explain the link between the brands and the identity of the new actor. Personally, I think this link simply does not exist.
Let's suppose I'm the CEO of Omega. What does it change for me to know whether Mescal, ATJ or my concierge's son is going to be the next Bond? A man is a man, a wrist is a wrist, and a watch remains a watch.
Does anyone here seriously believe the product is made specifically with respect to the chosen one's profile? The Seamaster Craig wears in CR has a generic design which is very similar to Brosnan's Seamasters. That's the ultimate proof the actor's identity doesn't really matter. The genuine brand is Bond, whoever gets the gig.
I guess it is a little different for Omega as they tend to sign up the Bond actor as an ambassador outside of and on top of their role as Bond (I think they did that with Brosnan at the time but happy to be corrected), but I agree that it feels like there’s plenty of time to do that once any film production starts rolling.
Craig supposedly had input into his watch for NTTD, but I wouldn’t expect that to be the case every time in future, especially for a new actor.

As you said, Mescal is a Cartier ambassador. That isn’t going to change anytime soon if his contract was for three years, which is usually the very minimum. So if he was to become Bond, he would not be allowed to wear an Omega outside of being in that role. Bond would then be the sole ambassador for Omega. Same as Craig wasn’t an Omega ambassador when he first started out as Bond, as he wore Rolex pretty much all of the time in his personal life until after QoS I believe. Craig developed a very unique relationship with Omega during pre production on SF, and so had direct input into the watch designs. A new Bond actor coming along would never have that input. A new Bond watch would be just that. The new actor would have zero influence on the design at this point in any capacity. Be it hands on, or Omega knowing who that was.
As for Brosnan, he only became an Omega ambassador after TWINE. So wasn't signed up immediately.
I’d be surprised if this new watch is connected in any way to the new film. They aren’t going to have a product on the market for a couple of years before the film is released. They’ll want a new watch premiered with the film for maximum marketing and sales hype.

we all speculated for month about what CraigBond would be like, then one day the film opened and we watched him break a sink with a man's face, and there he was, our new badass grim'n'gritty Bond! that scene would have been anticlimactic if we'd already seen him on teevee for months beforehand shilling Big Macs or whatever
the same with Dalton and Brosnans first appearance within their respective films: that bit in the precredits where the new guy first reveals his face and aproach is too important to water it down with some teevee commercials spoiling the surprise
anyway @fulhambond maybe you misheard this conversation you overheard in the bar. maybe Mezcal isnt the name of the new actor, but of one of the new corporate sponsors. Bond drinking Mezcal would certainly be an improvement from Heinekin!

I'd say that’s one of the better JB lists I've seen for some time. Only British men, only actors and with one or two exceptions all are the right age range.
Yeah, I think 5,6,7 and 13 are nonsense, but other than that that’s a pretty sensible list of potentials. I think it’s only really missing Sope Dirisu, Nick Hoult, Josh O’Connor and maybe Leo Suter. I think Mescal is a solid choice but I’ve also got my eye on Pierre.
I'll agree Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy shouldn't be on the list. They're nearly fifty years old. Norton and Cavill are not nonsense candidates in my opinion.
The fact the actor is unknown to the global audience doesn't mean he's not good enough.
A producer is not someone who just invests money and hopes for a 'reasonable rate of return' to quote Le Chiffre. A good producer is a talent scout, and I'm sure there are candidates within the world of theatre who would be wonderful, and I find the concept very seductive.
