C&J Molton boots group order

Hello,

Long time lurker here, 7 or so years in fact and I was so close to signing up when there was a group order for black suede Molton boots back in 2013. But then I wasn't earning a lot of money and spending £300 on shoes was unthinkable. Then there was the Billy Reid jacket :o

Anyway, I'm itching to buy a pair of new boots and Moltons have been on my radar since 2013. There is a pair on US ebay in my size as it happens but they will not ship to UK. So I have been speaking to Lauren and asked about the criteria for the group buy.

"For all of these 12 pairs the specifications need to be exactly the same, the same width, the same leather and the same sole unit. Obviously, the sizes of these are able to be different."

So is there any interest in Brown Suede Molton boots with Vibram Newflex sole?

Cheers

Not sure about a group buy, but you can use a proxy service like BONVU to ship to the UK.

Thanks for that info, good to know such a service exists. However the reviews don't inspire confidence :(

I’d be onboard for a group order.

BONVU has terrible reviews but there are others who look a lot better :)

Good stuff JTM :) see how this goes

Good, good. Getting there. If everybody can come to an agreement, we could do it a different colour too. Lauren said there are 10 variations of brown for example.

Can someone post a photo of this boot? I am having a hard time placing it. I Googled it and I can't figure which one it is. Thanks.

I'd consider a pair in the same color DC wears but i'm not a fan of vibram soles. Can anyone give feedback on the differences between vibram and dainite soles?

This is one of the Moltons that DC wears. I believe these are the original "Made for Barneys, by C&J" which are made with Vibram Newflex soles. The others he is seen wearing are MTO.

On the subject of soles, I have five pairs of shoes with Dainite soles. They are hard, jarring and offer little to no shock absorption hence the interest in Newflex soles. I spoke about this with C&J and they advised this is a good sole for comfort and shock absorption, crepe being the best but doesn't look good

I know there was a price increase during spring 2018 so I think you're looking at £400 per pair for a group buy. Keep in mind that price does not include shoe trees and or s/h.

I've always been a bit partial to the black suede Craig wore in the girl with the dragon tattoo. A group here did a small run of them a number of years ago and mine are getting close to the end of their run. https://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/41931/daniel-craig-crockett-jones-boots/

If you decided to go with a another round of those I'd be in. My brown pair is still in good shape so I'm a bit biased...

I previously confirmed with Lauren that another group buy of the black ones will NOT be permitted. She did advise me that you can do an individual order but you're looking at £6 to £700 pound per pair. Have you looked into sending them back to Crockett & Jones for a refurbishment?

Price will be around £400, I will confirm the exact amount. I believe Lauren just returned from some time off so she must be swamped with emails

If anyone is wondering about sizes, I have the Ryder 3, Chiltern, RW Williams Comfort Turnout and wear a 7.5 UK. I also have 7.5UK in Loake Pimlico and Aldwych but could wear half size ½ down in these now they have broken in. Over the years I have tried on all the Bond favourites, Skye, various 348 lasted shoes, Coniston, Eksdale II and always try two sizes but would buy a 7.5UK

I still think it’s very ridiculous that they’ll allow individual orders but not a (very small) group one. I’ve really wanted to get a pair in black for years but can’t justify their £700 price going the lone order route.

I wholeheartedly agree! I figured after shoe trees, s/h and tax the black suede Moltons would be close to $1200 and to that i say HELL NO! I don't like them enough to pay that and I think if they did a small run say 12 units for a "small" premium that people would be happy. Considering what's going on you'd think that Crockett & Jones would be a little more flexible in this rule 8-)

For what it is worth, I own two pairs of Ecco Chelsea Boots in a brown/grey color way they call Tarmack. They both have crepe sole and I can attest to their comfort level. Holy moly they are likely the most comfortable shoe I own thus the reason I own two of the exact same pair of boots. I’ve had one for two years. They still look perfect! The other is waiting in the box for when pair #1 wears out. In any event, the crepe sole looks nice on them, but it fits the Chelsea better than I think it would in this particular chukka. I said all that to say, I agree with ya. :D

I really want a pair of unlined chukkas with crepe sole for travelling, I had the opportunity to buy a pair of Church Sahara's in Navy with crepe sole for a very good price but passed on them, how I regret that now.

C&Js unlined offering don't do anything for me. If only they did an unlined version of Chiltern with crepe, I'd be all over that. Group buy anyone? :))

Lauren sent me the colour samples if a non 'Daniel Craig' brown suede boot is of interest

Really nice colours, just don't think I'd want to go it alone at £700ish

I will post the colours if there is any interest

Yeah, might not have to do a group order to get them after all. The black ones though...
