I don't know if the presidential candidates are running for the White House or Animal House.

I can still chase women, only downhill

Where else but in America could the women's liberation movement take off their bras, then go on TV to complain about their lack of support?

Some people put us down. But I still haven't heard of any Americans trying to swim across the border into Mexico!

A couple of political gaffes from Joe Biden   ajb007/biggrin

"Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: Jobs. J-O-B-S."

asking the audience to applaud State Senator Chuck Graham in 2008
"Stand up, Chuck, let 'em see you,".....  ( gestures for Graham to stand )
Unfortunately Graham, following a car accident, was confined to a wheelchair.

Oh, I'm not making a political point, and agree Trump I'm sure has made some gaffes.

Ronald Reagan was genuinely funny and, in spite of the above quote, he understood voting for another party doesn't make you an evil person.

Agreed but sadly politics has become so
Extreme, especially in America, I could
See it spilling out in to civil war. I honestly
Don't think that's as far fetched an idea
As it would have been even  just five
Years ago.

Re: Favorite Quotes

Absolutely. In some countries the politics has become so divided political oponents see each other as enemies. I think it was Reagan again who said of a Democrat politician: "We're friends after 6 PM". Can you imagine Trump saying that? I doubt if any member of the Senate saying that today.

Re: Favorite Quotes

A poem by Max Ehrmann  "Desiderata" written in 1927.

Desiderata
GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

“God has given you one face, and you make yourself another"
