Yes, crime levels were absolutely higher then:

I’m not convinced a non republican elected president will not continue to decrease the budget. To be the best and biggest costs money and for us to continue to enjoy our ideaologies and freedom it means spending to keep that infrastructure going.

I did read it, but you insist on saying Trump openly supports white nationalism where he has numerously stated he does not.

"Stand back and Stand By" doesn't sound anything like it.
Even worse, White Supremacists openly support him!

As for the military budget, it's also not as easy as it sounds.
Trump was giving out money like no other president - and this all by raising the national debt.

The positive effects (tax reductions pay for themselfs....) did not happen and very soon the "normal working" US citizen will have to pay for this with higher taxes.

Obama - even if he wanted to spend more for the military (not sure if he wanted) has been blocked several times by the republicans as they put out the credo of fiscal discipline.
That fiscal discipline doctrine went well over board in 2016.

    About white nationalists and Trump:
From time to time Trump has stated he disavows white nationalists. This usually after he has said something positive about them, like "stand by", and gotten a lot of criticism for it. He claims the positive statements were mistakes. He misspoke or didn't understand the real meaning of an expression like "stand by". But why are these mistakes always supporting the extreme right? Why has he never mispoken and said things like "Antifa are great people"?
I don't think Trump is a fascist. He has jews in his family! But I think he knows fascist is a part of his supporter base, even though it's a small one, and unlike all other presidents he has no qualms about giving them a wink and a nod from time to time.

This gives a bit of a broader and more differentiated view on Kamala Harris

    https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2019/1/23/18184192/kamala-harris-president-campaign-criminal-justice-record

As for the prisoners who have been kept longer ( the claim is to get more cheap labor out of them), I‘d like to get a bit more background.
How many, who where they? What was their offense and what where the reasons given for the extension?

I have the feeling that there is more behind that than the $2 labour

    Add:

    Here it is:

This claim comes from a February Daily Beast article. It found lawyers in then AG Harris’ office argued in 2014 that, despite court orders to reduce state prison crowding, some non-violent offenders needed to stay in the prison system to help combat wildfires. It does not detail how many prisoners, if any, ended up staying longer than required.

A spokesperson for Harris was quoted in the article saying, "Senator Harris was shocked and troubled by the use of this argument. She looked into it and directed the department’s attorneys not to make that argument again."

Fair enough, you guys seem to think that I agree 100% with all of Trumps views. I simply was stating I prefer that choice to the other.

I didn’t think that at all...you clearly stated that Trump wasn’t your favourite but you thought he was moderately better than Biden... :)

As for the Democratic republic comment that was meant to address the argument of the electoral college. I think Trump can say all he wants about mail in votes etc, we do have free speech, but unless he declares himself Chancellor or something it’s not as if he can act on those threats. But it has been seen previously whether it was gop or Democratic Party some mail in fraud had occurred. There have been instances of deceased people voting etc. Without going to the poll place and showing your identification and voting hypothetically this would be easier.

Thank you for your views - I’m interested to hear what Americans think of this...according to many reports there has only been a tiny fraction of mail in fraud/error - FAR less than Trump is reporting...it seems he’s genuinely scared of mail votes for some reason...

I’m sorry if you feel bombarded...

His initial reaction to both the Charlottesville protest murder and his initial reluctance to disavow support from David Duke, the leader of the KKK in February 2016, are cases in point. Only after considerable pressure does he disavow white supremacists - even Ivanka voices stronger opinions than her father in this front.

To get some relief from US politics I'd like to post about Belarus (The country's name in Norwegian is "White Russia". Is that the case in any other languages?) The people are rebeling after an obviously fraudulent election where President Lubanchenko supposedly got 80% of the votes. The police are brutal, the president claims NATO forces are standing ready in Lithuania to take power, Putin has promised to intervene if "needed" in support of Lubanchenko and the situation is generally difficult. I really hope the people there get their freedom. Putin won't like it since Belarus is an ally/client state.

"Belarus" has no meaning in English other than the name of that country.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 21,704MI6 Agent
"Belyy" is "white" i Russian, so the English name is from the Russian I guess.

Yes, the West will be very careful about any involvement in Belarus, and no military solutions will be on the table. This is of course the oposite of Russian and Belarussian propaganda, but that's a major reason why that's the way it is.

I had hope that you‘d not go down to such propagandist simplification and twisting of statements.
I admit that I‘ve been wrong....

Even you should know and respect the need for absentee voting* and stay away from evidently false statements re. mail-in ballot voting.

But I know that your hate against everybody won‘t allow you this.

I have a question: Pete Buttigieg had a suggestion to increase for the suppreme court. In short, it calls for expanding the number of justices from nine to 15, with five affiliated with Democrats, five affiliated with Republicans, and five apolitical justices chosen by the first 10. What do members here, and obviously especially Americans, think of his idea?
