Re: Anything Good on TV ?

Agreed, I watch more stuff on Britbox.
In fact I'm thinking of cancelling
Netflix as I now watch so little on it.

I cancelled Netflix when they signed up Meghan and Harry  ajb007/biggrin

But I was watching so little of it anyway I wasn’t getting much value from it.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Re: Anything Good on TV ?

Looking forward to the ITV drama later tonight about the notorious serial killer Dennis Nilsen.  David Tennant plays the lead character.

Not sure it's been mentioned on here before, but genuinely recommend the Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing series on a sunday evening.  I have zero interest whatsoever in fishing, however the rapport & daft stuff between these two makes for a very enjoyable (and easy) watch.  There's some beautiful scenery to enjoy too.

I loved 'Des'. Years ago I read the book 'Killing For Company'.

Thought everyone who starred in it was brilliant. Tennant will get all the awards but Jason Watkins and Daniel Mays were fabulous.

I really like Daniel Mays. I could just imagine him playing a cheeky MI6 agent annoying Bond.

Re: Anything Good on TV ?

Just finished rewatching all The Sweeney episodes (and both films) on Amazon.

Some of them still stand up today and it really was breaking boundaries in it's day. It's also very funny at times.

I would say though, the terminology and expressions used would make your hair curl today. I winced at least once every episode.  ajb007/amazed

Re: Anything Good on TV ?

Tonight I watched Freddie Flintoff: Living with bulimia. Very moving and sad that he has struggled with this for 20 years. Incredibly brave of him to share his story and also the men who shared their journeys too. Hopefully, this will encourage other men who suffer from bulimia to get help and to talk about it .

Not so much on TV but as Amazon Prime are having an on going sale I've added a few series of
The Man From UNCLE, so I now have all four seasons  ajb007/cheers  I'm a happy little 60s espionage fan.

Nice to see Spitting Image back, sure some of the voices aren't spot on but it is
Refreshing to see a comedy that pokes fun at all sides, Conservative and Labour

Re: Anything Good on TV ?

I'm watching the start of season 3 of "Babylon Berlin", a high-end German series set in Berlin's criminal underworld of interwar Berlin.
This is a time and location we seldom see on TV, but fans of the Bernie Gunther novels will love this TV series!
I certainly think Babylon Berlin is awsome  ajb007/biggrin

I loved that series. I think they're on Netflix and I was thinking of rewatching them. I was watching something recently and there was an actor I couldn't place .... turned out to be George Warleggan! He looked a bit different without all his fancy clothes  ajb007/lol

I watched 'Life After Flash' recently. Very interesting documentary about Sam Jones and 'Flash Gordon'. Turns out he did a bit of a Lazenby and became a complete pain and thought he was bigger than the film. I enjoyed it very much. Brian Blessed is so funny. He reckons Flash Gordon is the Queen's favourite film. She watched it with the kids and asked him to say 'Gordon's alive?' ... of course she did Brian  ajb007/wink

I perfectly understand. Just like when I watched Mad Men it was because of he high quality of the show an not because of Christina Hendricks.  ajb007/biggrin

I watch it for the same reasons as you, Lady Rose. Aidan Turner with his shirt off is just an added bonus  ajb007/biggrin

Re: Anything Good on TV ?

I'm watching the last part of season 5 of Vikings. It's stil the best viking viking themed story on TV or screen, but that's still damming with faint praise. I just saw a scene Harald Fairhair is in York. He first talks to an actor who can't hide his American accent to save his life, then he fights some and then gives a speach about extending his power from France to Scotland, from Ireland to Rus(sia), and he wants York to be the capital. He is wearing some kind of Hollywood medieval biker outfit, his face is full of tatoos and his hair is braided and fairly short,
Bollocks!
Harald Fairhiar promised not to cut his hair until he is king of Norway, and at this point he clearly isn't. His ambitions were to unite Norway, not some international viking empire, and I never heard of him involved in fighting between small kingdoms in Britain. There is no evidence to suggest vikings used tatoos, but I guess it's cool now so that why they use it in the show.
I'll continue watching, but only because there are so few viking movies and TV shows where they aren't wearing horned helmets. If the Americans here can imagine a world where there are very few cowboy movies and no good ones, and most people belive cowboys wore hats with large pom-poms .... that's how things are like for a Norwegian with an interest in vikings.  ajb007/mad
