Re: Question for Levis Menlo experts

Adjust the sleeves and it's pretty much screen accurate.

And it's a 1930s cut, so I don't really get the "80s" complaints.

I'm always on the fence to bring it to a tailor and ask to narrow the shoulder that would make the sleeve-length shorter too but thats a really challenging task for a tailor, I'm afraid to ruin the jacket.

There's a place here in Chicago called Without a Trace. They'll receive items via mail for alterations if you're not in the area. They raised my sleeves from the shoulder for $90. I took photos (which I can't find atm) and they mimicked the original stitching perfectly. It's worth investigating, imo. I can't recommend them highly enough. See the photo I posted earlier for the end result. Only complaint is that it took like two months.

what size do you your wear? sunny01

Hi Noi

I am a 40 chest 30-31 waist...the Menlo zips up perfectly and fits like a glove when done up.

More recently I have been able to get into a 38 if i am going hardcore on workouts and diet - i actually look bigger when that is the case even though i can fit into smaller size clothes, so I can entirely see how DC can sometimes get into a size 38R and other times he is a 40.

Thank you - i agree its the missus...she tries to put me off any clothing i get by saying it  looks too tight blah blah blah!! I just ignore it and go with what i like wearing!!

Re: Question for Levis Menlo experts

My Menlo also fits me perfectly except for the sleeves. My understanding is that the sleeves are also a motorcycle cut, hence being longer than normal except when my arms are outstretched. Although I always get my jackets and blazers shortened from the shoulder, I decided to leave my Menlo as-is. It doesn't look silly, but it can be a bit frustrating at times. It is a gorgeous jacket though, and I've had many compliments on it.

Re: Question for Levis Menlo experts

I'd agree - it's too big. See if you can buy the next size down, then sell the larger one. I know that's easier said than done but tailoring your existing one would be a gamble.

"How was your lamb?" "Skewered. One sympathises."

Thank you everyone for the feedback its much appreciated! I never realised how stupidly long the sleeves were until now.

I am wondering if it makes sense to get it tailored or sell it? Obviously if I tailor it now that will reduce the sale price but its not really wearable in its current state.

I honestly think it looks fine: it's a motorcycle jacket- the sleeves are supposed to be long. Have a look at Tom Cruise wearing it or whatever: it looks fine with long sleeves. Have you tightened the belt up though..? That's just accentuating the V shape a bit; I'd loosen it off. If you ask me it's a jacket which looks better a bit baggy rather than tailored. And having longer sleeves just means they're more aesthetically pleasing when they ruck up a bit (not to mention most leather jackets' sleeves actually shorten slightly with wear as they crease up naturally).

Bond wears it in the rain in Skyfall.

I don't think so...? It's raining outside but he's already indoors in M's house, isn't he? And he wouldn't mind ruining it as he'd be given a fresh one in the next scene anyway!

Not in a scene per se, but it's raining the night he's at M's house and it's raining the next day in London:

We can assume Bond doesn't treat the jacket as precious, and is fine wearing it in the rain, negating any "poncey" concerns ajb007/tongue

Heh! Sure, but he also wears Tom Ford suits for dangling off buildings in: we can assume he's not too worried about his wardrobe's longevity ajb007/biggrin

All I meant by the ponceyness is the faux distressing... it's maybe a bit sort of fake and precious. It does look nice and I like mine, but it doesn't feel like one of my most resilient jackets.

Wow cool photos thanks for posting...if its good enough for Tom Cruise  ajb007/smile .....

I have not touched the waist i've not even worn the jacket outside my house yet....its as it arrived from new but yes it gives me a crazy v shape...i look like i have the body shape of an ice cream cone. I think i would be too worried to get it tailored, and yes i agree with all comments on here that biker jackets are meant to have longer sleeves and with time they do ride up the arm...i think i can live with the arm length but ;less so the shoulder pads. Overall i think i probably should have sized down and got a size Small which seems crazy given i am a 40R.

Re: Question for Levis Menlo experts

Has anyone got any photos of how the sleeves looked on DC in Skyfall?

Yes. Considerably!

Re: Question for Levis Menlo experts

I had my sleeves taken up. I use this jacket whenever I go out to take photos in the fall/early winter and I always kinda regret having them raised. Mostly because I'd have rather kept my wrists protected from wind when I hold my camera up. I'm really happy with how it looks/wears otherwise.

Re: Question for Levis Menlo experts

Looks like the sleeves were quite long on DC so I guess that's how it's supposed to be worn .

Re: Question for Levis Menlo experts

I still think it looks right with long sleeves, that's the bike jacket look.
