I was in Wal-Mart a few days ago buying some snacks and a few other things. When I got up to the checkout to pay for it all, I saw this very nice woman behind the counter. We got to talking a bit, and when I had paid for everything, I saw it as an opportunity. I decided to ask if she would like me to take her out for coffee sometime. She told me that she couldn't answer such a question because it was against company policy and that it had happened a few times before...

This sounds just like typical beauraucratic nonsense on Wal-Mart's part. What I'm wondering is why is there such a restriction on Wal-Mart employees, and do any other stores or companies do this?... Or am I wrong and this is really just an excuse for employees to use when they want to decline the offer without saying "no" outright? The latter would make sense to me. However if it was the former, I fail to see how accepting someone's offer for a date would hinder professionalism...

Was this a result of beauraucratic rubbish or was I simply rejected? Your thoughts.

I kind of think you were rejected; I have never heard of this Wal-Mart rubbish.

Don't feel bad at all my son, I'm new to the forum so none of you might be of the hnowing of myself, but I am a priest, which means instead of asking of the fruit of a woman's loins, I pray. And yes, it gets hard to resist and yield not to temptation sometimes, but the Lord wanted me elsewhere. GO with God, my son.

About your question about Wal-Mart. It wouldn't surprise me to see Wal-Mart trying to scare employes. I won't go into detail about Wal-Mart. But they do have a scetchy managment. That's all I'll say.

The grocery store I work for (family owned) has no such policy that restricts us from going to partys if invited and such (we do have to finish our shift first though :# ). The only things we're restricted from doing while on duty is accepting tips or gifts for our service to the customer.

I would imagine the point of the ban, if there is a ban, is simply that employees can't talk about personal matters on company time. I could be wrong, but I would imagine if you asked her after work, she might say yes.

Cut to the chase -- Call or e-mail Wal-mart's corporate headquarters and ask them.

Sly Fox, I wouldn't put it past Wal-Mart to have this kind of policy. If that girl simply wasn't interested, all she had to say was that she had a boyfriend or something.

    I don't think it was personal. :)

We don't have a Wal-Mart here (which might officially put us into the Third World), but based on the South Park episode "Something Wal-Mart This Way Comes", this is a likely possibility. ;)

i dislike their employee relations but i still shopped there for my creature comforts in korea...but several months ago wal mart korea with profits plunging pulled out of the country and all stores closed...one of the few countries wal mart has failed in...two reasons given were the height of the shelves and the warehouse style which asian people do not like...prefering a more glamourous shopping enviroment...no more cheap marmalade or beef stew for poor old delon

Well in the UK we have Asda owned by Wal Mart and my mates have dated girls from there no problem. But that was a couple of years ago, when perhaps they were still Solely ASDA. Might be a new policy now.
I'll try to pull later, in the name of research of course, and let u know !!!

As Mo said, if it was straight out rejection, I'm sure she could have thought of a less complex and more obvious reason like "I'm sorry, I've got a boyfriend".

Can't say I've ever tried to pull a checkout girl - what with the local boilers in Tesco Metro and the 60+ brigade in Morrisons, I can't say I've ever been tempted!! :o Still, a giant ASDA opens next year in my home town, so never say never...

The 'grab-a-granny' night was a non-starter down your way, then? ;)
