Valentin Zukovsky

Being a fan of Zukovsky's brief stint in the Bond series, I was a bit disappointed when he was killed in TWINE.

Now with a new Bond and a reboot of the series the opportunity is there for a reprisal of the role. I think Robbie Coltrane is a really good actor and would love to see him back in a Bond film, especially as Valentin Zukovsky. It could perhaps give a link to the old films for all those continuity nuts out there.

Also we could perhaps be afforded an insight into just how Bond gave him that limp?

Anyone else like the character? Would you like to see a return or do you think he's best left where he is?
Anyone hate the character?

Zukovsky is a great character - and did he really die at the end of TWINE ? I'm not so sure.
I'd love to see Coltrane's character return at some point, but I'm not convinced he would fit into a Craig Bond film.

Zukovsky was a great character, but I'm not so sure that we should revive him, unless of course he did not die at the end of TWINE, but all things lead to his death.

He made his appearance as a baddie in GE and then stayed gone until Bond needed him in TWINE, which was his demise.

I think that he is somewhat like a Jack Wade or Robinson. They made their appearances in their respective movies and I probably wouldn't notice if either of them didn't return.

I am also a fan of Valentin Zukovsky as portrayed by Robbie Coltrane. I'm not so sure he really died either. His "death" scene may well have been filmed deliberately that way in case the producers wanted to bring him back at some point in the future.

I liked him alot but like jbfreak remarked above, I wouldn't miss him if he wasn't in the film. I think he should only be brought back if the script required it.

Coltrane would make a great Kerim Bey type of character but whether Valentin is dead or not doesn't matter as the series is starting fresh with new continuity

The problem with returning a character is that the script requires that they be there. Valentine served a purpose in TWINE. If a script could be writen that used him, yeah he could return. But he shouldnt be in there merely to provide a Sherif Pepper cameo in TMWTGG.

I doubt it will happen. Now that Craig's Bond has established itself as a hit, my guess is the producers will distance themselves from the Brosnan era even further. Of course, Dame Judi Dench presents a problem, but her character obviously was a complete revision of its previous incarnation, right down to yearning for the Cold War and wanting Bond to be an assassin rather than simply a field agent. I'd expect that Zukovsky and the Russians are mostly played out anyway; hence, the "organization" that is more like SPECTRE than SMERSH. To me, that's a more interesting concept than a "real" enemy anyway, as they can bring resources and tactics to bear that more conventional enemies might not.

And yet Robinson and Wade are a mere (and sadly a bad) replacement for some "real" Fleming's characters (Tanner and Leiter)

I don't think that his death was anything than obvious, because those who help bond tend to die.

Maybe, and why not, show the limp incident, but not in an obvious way like "here is Valentin Diemetrevich Zukovsky, a bad guy who will receive a shoot in the leg and serve to Bond later"

At least not in Craig era.
