The thing I find starange is peoples tollerances to violence/sex gore are so much higher now and films these days really push the boundarys on these aspects. But, smoking, that's a major no no.

Damn I couldn't resist. I need more self control.

    Maybe I'll start smoking.

This is an argument that I have a lot with my friends. I have major issues with films like Saw, Hostel etc as I think the totally gratuitous non-contextual violence of those films is more damaging to the perceived society than any of the action films.

As said before, if the worst Bond does is bed a few married women, have one too many before driving and potentially smoke all in the name of killing terrorists then he's fairly innocuous compared to people like old Jigsaw who's got people sawing their own limbs off, dissolving themselves in acid or whatever, just cos he thinks they're a bit of prat who needs teaching a lesson. The fact that his victims have done very little wrong in the vast majority makes his actions against them more ridiculous and unecessary.

p.s. HH I had heard of Mr Haggard, his name is well known on the gay scene worldwide after his misdemeanors. Us lesbians (apart from Ellen 8-)) are generally much better behaved :))

I miss Bond Smoking. It seems such a vital part of Flemming's Creation...
When reading the books you get a real feel of reflection when Bond lights up, usualy after an in depth description of a meal, breakfast in FRWL anyone?

I do too, in a way. But those novels are of another time. I just don't think a guy who has to put himself throught that kind of physical activity would be much of a smoker. Maybe cigars, since you don't inhale. But I think that cigarettes would almost look weird, like seeing an athlete puffing away.
