I don't think "grindhouses" and Drive-Ins existed elswhere in the same way.

Can't think of an equivalent over here. There were certainly great independent cinema's, like the Scala in London, but I don't think they had the kind of dubious clientele that Tarantino and others have described seeing. Here's a link to an article by the US critic entitled 'I was a Teenage Grindhouse Freak.'

Patterson is right about the nostalgia you can feel for the places you frequented when you were an adolescent and saw many of the films that shaped your tastes. I still miss a particular old-style cinema I used to skive off college to attend in the early 90's. It's now a hellish nightclub, filled with patrons from the more mature end of the market. :D

As for 'Grindhouse,' it's the distributors who are going to seperate the two movies. If they are providing us with a choice I am going to take it. As long as they don't remove the mock trailers I'll be happy. I've seen part of the 'Machete' one, with Danny Trejo.' I'd love to see Rodriguez turn that into a feature.

    John Drake,

Well the word is that Machete will be a feature released on DVD when Grindhouse comes out on DVD. Can't wait for that myself. As for how the movie is going to be released, I think that's a great shame. But you're right, I do hope they keep all of the trailers and such. It would be a shame to lose them.

So, what sharp little eyes you've got...wait till you get to my teeth.

{[] That's great news. I do think they are going to release a pretty spectacular DVD set, when the time comes. And if some of those trailers exist in a longer form that's really something to look forward to.
