Vesper's "Dirty Feet"?

I remember when the first ever Casino Royale review was published on aintitcool.com, there was a strange complaint that Vesper's feet are "always dirty"

this was the quote:

"Here's a quibble and bear with me... in films, the girl is supposed to have and immaculate air to her unless she's supposed to be intentionally rough around the edges. But every time you see this woman's feet, they're pitch black. I honestly hope they fix this in post. When Vespa Lynd rolls over one time, she immediately steps out of character and becomes Eva-Dirtyfoot-Green. I'm not playing man, clean up the soles Barbara. I'm meant to fancy this woman."

We were confused back then, and I still am.

Does ANYONE know what he was talking about? ?:)

In what has become a very hotly-contested, tightly-competitive field, this one might---just might---be the Silliest CR Gripe Ever :))

I've seen the film eight times now, and I haven't seen Eva's feet look 'pitch black.' :(|)

My own unsolicited, amateur diagnosis: I think this guy from aintitcool.com has an OCD-type thing with feet, and perhaps should explore options within the ever-burgeoning pharmaceutical and therapeutic industries for a bit of help...

Oh I remember that review. His other gripe was about Bond eating "burnt toast" with dinner. IT WAS CAVIAR! My opinion at the time, and it still stands, was that this "guest reviewer" was some div kid who saw a couple of smuggled out rushes and cobbled together a fake review based on those and declassified info from the internet so he could get a post on AICN. Happens all the time unfortunately.

As with the "burnt toast" which was caviar, the "dirty feet" were prehaps an article of clothing we commonly refer to as "shoes".

    That made me chuckle

Maybe they did doctor the colour of her feet slightly in post, we may never know and frankly do we care? I have looked out for Eva Green's so called dirty feet and can't find them any where.

Wow, he complains about the dirty feet when it's even clearer to gripe about her odd resemblance to Nosferatu? These people, when are they going to go for the obvious? ;)

Having already seen her in "The Dreamers", I knew I wouldn't have any aesthetic complaints.
  • 72897289 Beau DesertPosts: 1,691MI6 Agent
"The Dreamers" appeared to me to be a film of questionable value. But I have studied Eva Green's scenes very carefully and have yet to see anything that reminded me of "Nosferatu". No dirty feet either!

This poster was obviously trying to find something wrong with Eva and by extention the movie itself. He didn't even pay enough attention to the film to see that there's no burnt toast and that Vesper--NOT "Vespa"--wears shoes and her feet are as clean as anyone else's.

What else is dirty about her? I volunteer to be her loofa sponge!

Yet to watch that film, but from the images of it I've seen, seems like the bath was a nice way to remedy any cleanliness issue...but she's still such a dirty dirty girl!

I enjoyed 'The Dreamers' for what it was---not the least of which was Eva Green's frequent nudity :) It's about the loss of innocence of an American in Europe, and I can certainly relate to that :007)

The politics of the piece bug me, and I'm not wild about the ending, but the music and overall experience of the film get an enthusiastic 'thumbs up,' as far as I'm concerned.

Seriously,Eva's great in "The Dreamers",which,IMO,is a very good film.
As with the lovely Emmanuelle Beart in the (extremely) revealing "La Belle Noiseuse",every inch of Eva Green's body is on display in her picture--and trust me,she isn't a bit objectionable.

    I love Art Films.

I would never want to derail this thread into a treatise on "The Dreamers", but I felt that - Eva aside, it was a rather empty film directed by a drooling old man whose main goal was to photograph every square inch of Ms. Greens generous endowments.

I must admit to watching most of this film on "fast forward" slowing down only when necessary. Therefore I missed the rich soundtrack and the political metaphor, but I am glad that Loefelholz and Willie Garvin found something in that celluloid spaghetti (besides Eva)of redeeming intelluctual value.

The drooling old man also had some choice shots of the male anatomy too, so perhaps he's an equal-opportunity perv?

To throw in my two cents, I found the politics of The Dreamers pretty naive, but I still appreciated it for the acting and cinematography. Like WG, I'm quite the fan of art films myself!

I'll jump in and second that!

Lets see, do any oo7 outings rate as art films? Not at the level of Bertolucci - of course, but art none the less. I could nominate a few - still none feature "dirty feet".

I thought The Dreamers was rather silly. I love Bertolucci's The Conformist, but most of his other work leaves me cold. I don't think he's quite the master that so many critics have made him out to be and he hasn't made anything that really stands out since the 70's. Keanu Reeves as the chosen one in Little Buddha springs to mind as being a particular disaster.

And I don't remember seeing Eva Green's feet in CR at all. I think it may have been wishful thinking on the part of the reviewer. I supsect he has a foot fetish and his imagination ran away with him.

I'm with you, Hardy. In a sense, the politics of the film closely mirror the politics of the period it depicts---the 1960s---so there's arguably a bit of artistic truth in the ultimate ambiguity and futility of it all. The rock soundtrack is great, and the overall palette of the film is rich and splendid...*

I agree. I enjoyed The Dreamers (even though I don't find Green to be all that attractive) but as for Bertolucci himself, I think he's only ever made two great films: The Conformist and Last Tango In Paris which IMO is now a little outdated. I think his entire career now is built on the back of those two films and he hasn't done much since.

It wouldn't be the first time a director made films that were a shadow of his former work, Hitchcock and Hawks come instantly to mind - its too bad too because the money and resources could be spent encouraging young talent.

BTW: Have had a quest from the UK visiting for the past few days and had the honor to play CR'06 for her. She had not previously seen it and thought it was a really good film.

I checked again, one shot of Eva's feet --- no dirt at all!!!!

Actors almost always say whenever they're appearing in Art Films that they're using their talents to search for the "truth".

If that's the case, then Eva Green and her compatriots Emmanuelle Beart,Paz Vega and Anna Mouglalis(among many other fine-looking method actresses)generally display a lot of "truthyness"--as Stephen Colbert would say-- in the majority of their films.

Art!Truth! What more can a viewer hope to see?
  • 72897289 Beau DesertPosts: 1,691MI6 Agent
That's right when I turned off the "fast forward" and hit the "play" button on "The Dreamers" DVD it was in search of "THE TRUTH".

    Very rewarding search indeed!

I must say that is possibly the most hilarious thread of this forum so far. And as a person who has seen CR over a 100 times (I'm not exaggerating folks) and has somewhat of a foot fetish I can assure you that the 4 times that we see Eva Green without shoes in CR (in the shower after the stairwell scene, after Craig gets better they rush into a room to start making out and she kicks of her shoes before he throws her on the bed, the beach scene when Craig says he love her and they make out and again in the bed footsying with Craig before she goes to get the money from the bank) her feet were NEVER dirty, I promise, so rest assured i expect u2 die, the guy who posted that is either nuts or was watching the wrong movie! Hope this clears things up for you!
