You're going to Thailand, Dan? That's great! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun watching the muay thai fights in Lumpinee or Raja Stadiums. I've always wanted to watch someone like Yodsanklai or Buakaw live, so maybe one day I'll go to Thailand too, or Japan, to see an A-level fight.
That's my goal. I'm afraid I don't really know all that much about the specific fighters, however I really want to watch a proper Muay Thai fight. :D
I agree with you that it would be a bit ridiculous to see Craig kick Jaa's ass (although it would be much less ridiculous than seeing Mel Gibson kill Jet Li!). However, Bond doesn't really need to be a better fighter to win a fight, does he?
No, he doesn't. I have to say, I'm not sure what I think of this. I adore martial arts, but I think I agree with the idea that having a huge guy (similarly to Jaws) may be better than having a martial artist. But then again, it all comes down to whom the martial artist is and how they handle it. If it's Jaa, and they handle it well, it could work.

I'm not sure if Jaa could play a villain though. With Jet Li, his persona was such that he was perfectly convincing as a villain (although I always preferred him as a hero), however with Jaa, I don't know if he could be convincing as a a villain as I'm not sure if he would agree to be a work-for-hire (it's interesting to note that all of the Jaa films I've seen essentially had him attempting to get back an object of great cultural/Buddhist significance), as beating people up for money isn't all that noble. (I'm not suggesting that Li is less noble; it's just that he utilises his martial arts abilities for different reasons.)
I'm sure he might, although I have no earthly idea who this fellow is.
He's a Muay Thai expert who's probably best known for the film Ong-Bak. He's one of the world's absolute best martial artists. :D

For the next villain: Mark Strong or Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Strong has rapidly become one of my favorite actors. He's been in Rocknrolla, Stardust, and Body of Lies, and he's got "mysterious, tough, suave guy" down perfectly.

And Ejiofor, he's got an extensive filmography, but I recently saw him in a movie he did for Chanel 4 called Endgame, and it just sealed the deal that he can do thrillers.

Immediately, I began to think that EON should definitely give Rachel McAdams a long look when casting the female lead for Bond 23. I have been a fan of Rachel since seeing her in Red Eye, a tense thriller in which she played a terrorist hostage who turned into a heroine. In that role, she was able to showcase a very appealing mixture of good looks, intelligence, vulnerability and toughness, all qualities that EON seems to want in a modern Bond girl. Furthermore, at 31, she is not too young for DC's Bond :)
I completely agree. :D I love Rachel :x and I also think she would make a great Bond girl. She's beautiful, but also, as you say, extremely intelligent and very tough (although not too tough.)

Rachel McAdams -- the chick from Sherlock Holmes? Bleah.

    Girl: Carisse Van Houten

    Villain: Christoph Waltz

    Henchman: Javier Bardem

    M: Judi Dench

    Q: Geoffrey Rush

Moneypenny: Can't think of a single person, except, perhaps, Diana Rigg's daughter because she inherited almost nothing of her mother's good looks.

The trick is not so much to find actors who can play the parts but to find actors who embody the parts.

Wow ?:) I find her very attractive; thought she was pretty good in Holmes. Eon could do worse, IMO!

She looks nice in some photos, less so in others, Loeff. I like dark-haired women -- Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, or Diana Rigg, for instance -- but while they're in a league all to their own, they're my standard. There's something immediately generic and a little annoying about McAdams by comparison -- for me, the personality that comes through is no turn on, and the looks are not so special that I'd want to watch her for two hours. I'm not crazy about her Joker mouth and dense chin, either.

Tough room! Of course, most brunettes do pale in comparison to Hepburn, Loren, et al.

It's like the disregard still heaped upon poor Eva Green :x Makes me sad; to each his own, though! {[]

You know, I just reread what I wrote, and that was rather mean -- I shouldn't be so pointed when I've hardly seen anything with her in it.

On a better, more complimentary note, I'm rather drawn to Anouk Amie right now, and I liked Eva Green, especially when she didn't have so much makeup on and her natural beauty came through (she's lovely but makeup makes her look severe). Have you seen the deleted scenes for Casino Royale? I wish they'd kept them in the movie because, among other things, she gets even more likable, and the moments with Daniel Craig, though brief, provide more romance for both.

I wouldn't mind seeing Rachel in a Bond film. Blondes just don't do it for me and never have. Never understood the fascination with them. Dark hair, Brunette, or Red Head (Bit bias as I am one) are hands down the most attention getting, period. But anyways.

Since I was mainly going to post and rant, I figured it wouldn't be appropriate to do so unless I had some ideas of my own.

Bond Girl/Bond Villianess: Rachel McAdams (Yea I like the dark and sinister ones. Would make for a nice twist. Its been to long since Bond has been really had by a woman. No I do not include Vesper, that's different.)

Bond Villain: William Hurt. I loved him in Mr Brooks as Kevin Costner's alter ego. Plus he isn't a bad actor, and the few times I have seen him play a villain, he does a bang up job! Would be nice for a calmer subtler villain much like Le Cheire, I'm personally tired of the loud over the top doomed to fail villains in Bond. Its time for a real villain that can give Bond a real run for his money. That is why CR is one of my all time favorite Bond films. Bond did not kill Le Chiefre.

Henchman: Cillian Murphy gets another vote. That guy has creepy (not over the top) villain or henchman written all over him. Now on to the main reason why I decided to post in the first place. All the wanting MMA stars or God forbid Martial Arts guys. Not that I do not approve of either mind you. We really do not need another Jaws (MMA guys). While I understand it would be cool to have a guy a bit bigger than Bond (Height and Weight) I'm not talking about some steroid addict here. As for the Martial Arts in a Bond film *shudder*. The only reason I would allow that in a Bond fill is if the guy did some round-house sweep kick at Bond, and Bond pulled out his PPK and capped him between the eyes. Of course when I think of Martial Arts I'm thinking of Hardcore Orient MA. That would just look straight up ridiculous in a Bond fill. end rant/

M: Judi Drench/ Micheal Gambon. I list this as such because my idea for a new and original Bond film would be taken from the book The Man with the Golden Gun, in which Bond tries to kill M with a nerve gas filled pen. I would love to see M get killed, which is a shame because I do like Judi's M. Then have Micheal Gambon take over to appear as more of a father figure (Which M is really suppose to be). Plus it would make for one of the best opening 5 minutes in Bond film history. Now if only we could work into some how quickly Bond was brain washed into doing it. Nah have someone from the inside do it. We already know that Quantum has M's number from QoS. That would make a logical and necessary role to bringing back the father figure role which again is what M is suppose to be. Again not that I do not like Judi's M. Goldeye was her best hands down M film. Loved the Dinosaur line she cuts Bond in two with, and the "If you do not think I have the balls to send a man off to die," wasn't bad either.

Moneypenny/Q: I can make this short and sweet, rather blunt and possible rude while I'm at it. Its time to wake up people, they are not coming back, at least not in Craig's tenure. While I loved Q I have never really been much of a Moneypenny fan I mean what real purpose did she serve? I swear I think all she did was pretend to type at that blasted desk and wait for Bond to throw his hat in. If Q were to comeback, again about as likely as me being voted in to take over for Barack Obama (*shudder* another issue all together), I would like to have Micheal Gambon to play it (if my previous idea of him replacing Judi doesn't pan out) But the truth of the matter is neither of them are coming back.

The ones so desperate for "classic" Bond to come back need to understand that "classic" Bond died when CR was made. Now let me define what I feel is classic Bond: Over the top doomed to fail campy villains, Bond being funny(Dry humor is the only way to go. Ever met a former SAS member, they don't have much in the line of humor. Atleast not the 15-20 I met while I was in the service. Not meaning any offense to them of course. Bond can have a sense of humor, but not the tongue in check Moore funny, just short little quips mainly to be charming with the Bond girls. Bond for the most part should be cold ala Daniel Craig.), Bond not making mistakes, Bond never losing. Perfect Timing Bat Utility Belt Gadgets (Kills the Q character) Twisted Metal Suped Up Beautiful Cars.

While I did enjoy those things, and they got me addicted to Bond, after what 20 films of it, I got sick of it. It has been time for a change and is something they should have done in the 90's to bring Bond back. Craig's Bond has walked us into a new era for Bond. A Bond that isn't just a Bond fan's film, a Bond movie that is a real by God good movie like CR and to a lesser extent QoS. My mother and father and I went to see CR when it came out. My mother had never seen a Bond film, but she enjoyed the movie why? Because it was a good film, not a Bond Fan's Film. I think after 20 films of the same cookie cutter recipe came dangerously close to the only thing that can kill Bond, boredom. Nothing surprised you anymore. It got old.

But I'm tired of ranting and I need a cigarette (needed it after the henchman listing). I hope I didn't offend anyone, this is my own not quite humble opinion.

Alan Rickman would have been good but Die Hard- the overacting "Mr Tataki will not be joining us... for the rest of his life"

How about Kevin Spacey playing a mad villian bent on God-knows-what with a really massive henchman and a hot girlfriend who tries to seduce and kill Bond.
"Oh look! Parachutes for the both of us! Whoops, not anymore!"
"You see Mr Bond. You can't kill my dreams. But my dreams can kill you!"
    "Time to face destiny."

I quite like the idea of a huge giant of a henchman. Not necessarily a clownish or grotesque type (like oddjob, Jaws etc.), but simply an athletic giant. Djimon Honsou would certainly fit the bill.

The main villain will probably be Mr. White or Guy Haines. I can't imagine them not taking up that thread. However, I think the best thing would be for Quantum top-brass not to appear in the film at all. I do like the idea of Quantum not being identified with a single face, or even not having a single identifiable leader. So, if it's not Haines, the main villain should be an understated politically savvy type rather than an old megalomaniac with a deep cruel laugh. To add a hint of quirkiness I suggest someone like Bill Nighy. Or, for a more conservative approach: Ciaran Hinds.

Of the potential Bond girls mentioned here Rachel Mac Adams and Gabrielle Anwar seem very worthy. I'd add Moran Atias to the shortlist, though I would really love to see Bond hook up with another redhead. Can anyone suggest a good classy red?

How about casting Robert Maillet as a less cheesy and gimicky Jaws-style heavy? He played henchmen similar to Jaws in recent movies such as 300 and Sherlock Holmes.

And I don't want the secret lair archetype completely dispelled, but instead of having a very outlandish rocket base nestled inside a hollowed out volcano crater, the Quantum syndicate could have a big secret lair that's hidden in plain site and relatively plausible (a 21st century bunker loosly based on the infamous Greenbrier Hotel).
