    Sweet Kan!

That's the nicest one I've seen in photographs. Your photographs makes me want get an FE brother to the S.D. Studios one I have. We'll see. Not too keen on all of the problems I've heard about.

Thank you all for the kind words.
That space was screaming for me to do something, so I had too :D
    Glad you all like it -{

My impression of the FE GG?
Considering what the GG props are, any replicas made will always have issues, SD included.
SD was never perfect. So is FE. But they are both very nice and fine collectibles.
FE got some QC issues, and if we move past that they are really fine. The advantage is on the US buyers really - low shipping cost and no taxes/duties. FE will also replace all damaged parts.
The price points on the FE are also not bad.
So do I like it? I love it!

Engraving would be too destructive and not recommended.

I can see you reaching for your sharpie pen as we speak :v

    :)) :)) :)) :D

Unlike the FE Gun mines can handle an engraver having a go on it with his ''Tool'' :v :p

Dont Know why people Didn't go that way with The SD Guns, In the 'Rough Guide to james Bond' Book, There is a picture of a 1st Gen SD Gun by the looks of it, with an 'S' engraved on the Cigarette Case Handle, looks neat.

Decided to go a different Way with this bit on my lighter

Think Kan has done a great Job, very screen Accurate

I can't remember, I have been away for so long, Was the 'Colibri' logo on the film Guns Engraved on or a small sticker
  • danjaq_0ffdanjaq_0ff The SwampsPosts: 7,283MI6 Agent
It is engraved on the screen gun, if you engrave the SD or FE gun you would need to get it replated :o
  • scaramangasgoldengunscaramangasgoldengun ScotlandPosts: 1,388MI6 Agent
Maybe that's why the photo of the Gun in that little book, is in black and white :))

But people buy gold plated items, lighters, Business card cases etc and get them
engraved with Initials etc, and they dont need plated again,

Is it the method of Gold Plating thats Been used on SD and FE which dosent allow you to engrave it? or was it the thickness of the Gold Plating? or just the General base material ?
  • danjaq_0ffdanjaq_0ff The SwampsPosts: 7,283MI6 Agent
If you get something engraved that has been plated you will have the base metal come through, that in its self can lead to corrosion and discolouration under the plating.
  • scaramangasgoldengunscaramangasgoldengun ScotlandPosts: 1,388MI6 Agent
Right I see, I know where My train of thought has been coming from now, i keep thinking of the colour of the brass before hand and thinking it would look fine, with the base metal coming through, but I am forgeting that the Gold Plating is like a protective skin almost, and if its broken in anyway then problems can occur.... like you said
  • danjaq_0ffdanjaq_0ff The SwampsPosts: 7,283MI6 Agent
I just had to have 20 shillings plated, the original ones that came with the SD Attache case had some sort of oxidation going on :o they went black with a bit of copper sulphate green/blue stuff on them, but yes you are right it protects the base metal from tarnish.
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
not all metals plate well either guys, aluminium for instance is crap.

plus, the finish of the base metal massively effects the appearance of the plating.
