I am not a fan of David Fincher, but otherwise, I think it's a good list. Of these, my choices would be Brad Bird, Rian Johnson, Steven Soderbergh, or Darren Aronofsky.

Despite the near-universal acclaim he earned for Skyfall, director Sam Mendes has decided not to return for 007's next mission

I did not know this yet :( to bad!

I have never even thought about Soderbergh directing a Bond movie, I'm not sure how that would work out, but I'm sure atleast he knows how to portray casino scene's well!

Martin Campbell is the director the producers only need to call up on in case of an emergency! Skyfall was a succes and the franchise is in great shape, there's no need for saving! :P

But seriously, why not Martin Campbell? Here's my rationale: right now, of the three Daniel Craig/post-reboot Bonds, you have two completely serious and one that's flat-out fun. Quantum was shoved out the door for SF, which was good for SF, but how do you bring them back in? As of now, they're so shadowy that they don't really have much background and there's a lot that the audience has to learn about them. How do you make them both menacing and giving the audience the will to suspend disbelief without going into Dr. Evil territory? Campbell, after all, basically invented Quantum. Who better to explore a creation than its own creator?

How do you work Felix Leiter back in, as well? I liked him in both films, but he wasn't the "one true pal" that you get the sense of in Ian Fleming's novels. Obviously Felix has to be developed into that character, and again who better to do it than Campbell, who clearly had a vision for developing the Leiter character?

Finally, if you get Campbell, ten to one you get a shot of Bond standing over Vesper's (or possibly even M's) grave. If that isn't Flemingesque, I don't know what is.

Suits me. Any problems with GE (the score) or CR (casting) weren't his decision.

Christopher Nolan has my vote since he is a fan of the series (On Her Majesty's Secrect Service is his favorite film) and has expressed interest before. Also I like his films. Duncan Jones sounds like a good pick too. I don't know about any of the American directors mentioned in the article, though I am glad that Michael Bay is not one of them.

Nolan, Bird or Campbell also Guy Ritchie would make an interesting Bond director.

It was odd seeing him pick up best screenplay at the Baftas, straight after best British film SF. Because, Tarantino had been snubbed by EON over doing a Bond flick. He seems too much of a live wire, plus of course he's not British if that's a factor. I'd love to see it, but it's unlikely.

The Source Code director, Duncan Jones, sounds good. Maybe get Dad to do the song! :D

Otherwise, Campbell could come back for one last directing harrah. Actually, seeing as he's done so much for the franchise, you think he'd get offered the big bucks Mendes were supposedly offered.

I hope they could find a way to get Martin Campbell back on production duties.

Yes, I'd like to see Martin Campbell return again - he's got all the aces - GE and CR and he's The Fixer if anyone is.

Give Quentin Tarantino his shot, with Samuel L. Jackson as F Leiter
and Christoph Waltz as the Villain. :)) It would be The Bond
with the Highest Body Count. :D

    Nice article by the way, alphaagent. -{

It likely won't be Christopher Nolan as he's reportedly just signed on to do "Justice League" which I would imagine will have a production schedule similar to Bond 24. Maybe Bond 25.

Campbell and Soderbergh are my top choices, and I think Katherine Bigelow would be an intriguing choice as well.

According to a review of 'Side Effects' today, Soderbergh has claimed that that film is his last. If true, then we can cross him off the list as well.

There's one name I forgot to mention, and I realize it's very unlikely, but how about James Cameron? After all, he already did a pretty good job of directing a pseudo-Bond movie - True Lies, anyone?

I don't know about James Cameron since he is commited to the Avatar squeals at the moment and I believe he said some time ago that in the post 9/11 world he is no longer intrested in the action genre.

One out of the box idea is for Ralph Fiennes to direct it. His adaptation of Coriolanus has 94% on rotton tomatoes, and he already knows the actors.
