The headline to the story actually reads Nicolas Winding Refn Could Be Directing the Next Bond.

His name has been mentioned along with Ang Lee and (of course) Sam Mendes. I'd be happy with any of these three.

I love Drive but Only God Forgives doesn't look great. Personally, I don't think he'd be a good choice for Bond anyway though.

Refn isn't the only Scandinavian director to be of interest for the Bond producers. Norwegian director Morten Tyldum, who made "Headhunters", has been in a meeting. Broccoli and Wilson asked if he would be available in the future. He was also shown a script. The chances of Tyldum getting the job is probably small, but it's interesting that there is some kind of script at this stage.

Here is another media piece on the story.

I think directors like Refn and Tyldum would be a mistake. If you look at the worst Bond movies in recent times (DAD and QoS) both were made by directors who had made interesting, normal-budgeted movies. They had no experience making big movies. Bond movies are so big, a major part of making them is administration. Also, have you notices the two are the only non-British directors in Bond history? :#
