Caught the end of BGT tonight, they had a stunt bike team on
The music they played was the fantastic Live and Let Die -{
Now my question is, I know the composer / writer will get a payment
As it's their work but would EON get a payment. Or as it was a Bond
Theme do EON get it all ?
As it is one piece of music that gets used a lot. :))

    The owner of the music would get the default royalties.

    Because of the context of this song, its likely EON's permission at the very least would have been sought first because this is network television, and the song is synonymous with the Bond films. However, was there any Bond element to the act at all? - If not, and it was only the song, its likely it would come under one specific agreement between EON and ITV relating to the films that talks about external use of elements from the films in other programming. - That would include the use of film clips, behind the scenes footage, and references to characters and storylines, with a probable limit set on how many references per series of (in this case) BTG. - Other shows it could apply to would be documentaries, actor biographies ( an hour long special about Dame Honor Blackman for example) sketch shows, chat show appearances and quiz shows.

    Pussy - do you really watch programmes like that?!
    This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

    More seriously, Sir Paul McCartney is in a much stronger position when negotiating rights to his songs than, well, anyone else.

    Ever.

    And that situation was if anything even stronger in 1972. He will be retaining far more of his rights to the song than eg Marvin Hamlisch did for "Nobody Does It Better" and making more of a profit when it is used than is the norm.

    He is a big name. -{
    It just struck me tonight, if you write a song/ music you get paid, and if
    It's used you also get paid but what if you have written something for
    a movie, is the song still your property or the property of the film company ?
    Or a mix of both ?

    Deals are struck individually. The exact % will vary. McCartney rates a bigger % than average of course.
