However, it had been built up so much that I expected more. I liked it, but I expected a new CR or even more (which neither SF nor QoS were). Still, SF is a good movie, and clearly superior to any Bond movie but CR in the last 25 years.

IMO,in any case Craig will go down in history with just those three movies (even QoS is superior to any Brosnan) as the best Bond since Connery.

    I couldn't agree more.

Every Bond is hailed the best Bond since Connery.
    My current 10 favorite:

It's kind of true, isn't it? I mean they said the same thing about Pierce Brosnan after GoldenEye...

Perfectly true. And every ex-Bond has been vilified in the popular mass of public opinion when he has been replaced by the new, "best Bond since Connery".

Craig's films will be subject to the same scrutiny and pulled apart accordingly for their shortcomings which, I suspect, will focus on Craig's lack of ease and levity in the role, his rapid ageing and the general lack of sophistication and humour in the films. And probably the po-faced seriousness of the Craig-Bond project rather than open acknowledgement of genuine escapism.

And I suspect SKYFALL will end up in the same box as DAD will its equally mindnumbingly unbelievable plot and villain, differentiated only by the fact that DAD did it's thang with a huge smile on its face and a smirk suggesting "you don't really believe we believe any of this **** is meant to be serious, do you?"

I agree with your first two paragraphs, but I find it hard to believe that Skyfall will ever be considered along the ranks of Die Another Day, especially with regards to its overwhelming financial success and BAFTA wins. Still, it ain't the bee's knees...

I agree 100% with the above statement.

AdamO, remember how D.A.D was a huge box-office hit and well received by the critics?

I don't get the "every ex-Bond has been villified" sentiment. Although in some instances successive Bond actors have been viewed more favorably than their predecessors, I think it's an overreaction to say the previous actors were villified. I think both Sean Connery and Roger Moore continue to be well thought of by the general public despite the growing list of successors. And I find it very hard to believe that SF will ever be thought to be on the same level as DAD.

Actually, I happened to catch a bit of Die Another Day on TV recently, and although it was not my favourite movie when it was released, I just realised how much better Brosnan's Bond is than Craig's.

+1 (although I had realised this a long time ago... about 8 years ago, I think)
    Agreed.

Brosnan was "the best Bond since Dalton!"

On topic: I see SF as being considered almost as good as TWINE sometime in future.

Admittedly not; I was about twelve years old when Die Another Day came out & didn't read a ton of reviews from critics, aside from the occasional Roger Ebert contribution. But if Die Another Day can fall from grace, then maybe so can Skyfall.

Connery without a doubt. But Moore? He's the internet's least favourite Bond, at least. Do a Google search of Sean Connery and you'd be hard pressed to find an image like this:

The most over rated film of all time must be
"The King's speech " Colin Firth can't deliver a line
without stuttering. You'd think an actor with his talent
could have covered that up better. :))

My single biggest problem with SF is that Craig developed what I call the Daf curse: four years since the last movie and man have you aged. But instead if working with it, they gave him a buzz cut that only accentuated it. ?:)
Like Jack Slater would say, Big mistake.

I always thought the shaving scene in SF was to show
Bond emerging fresh again. Like a butterfly. ;) to show
he's back on form, so he had to look a bit rough before it.

    :)) now you're talking!

Re your other point: SF and TWINE. IMHO they have the same kind.of relationship as QoS and LTK, in that they share many plot/theme similarities.

I was comparing LTK to QoS, and TWINE to SF- not qualitatively, but in their plots and themes.
