    :)) I wouldn't say it's my favourite but I do love it. Very different from Barry & Arnold
    But it has some fantastic moments. I only wish they could have interwoven the theme
    A bit more, although I can understand the reason why it wasn't.

    As much as I thought it was a perfect Score, the Title Song was overplayed a lot.

    I hated it when I first heard it, as it's so different from the traditional John Barry / David Arnold- style scores... But I have to admit to liking it now, particularly the (and I don't know how better to describe it) haunting melody when Bond and M approach Skyfall Lodge.

    I love the train sequence he used the rattling of the tracks as a rhythm and
    The Fight in the skyscraper with Patrice is basically all percussion, to match the
    Men hitting each other and the fantastic orchestration as Bond clings to the lift
    Getting into the Building, as well as Bond arriving at the casino. {[] as I posted
    Earlier, some great tracks. -{

    Moonraker is my favourite score. Don't think much of SF score at all

    I'd say with Sam Mendez coming Back, so will Thomas Newman .

    Sadly, I agree. David Arnold is the right man for the job and I miss him.

    No! Not a bad ditty but eclipsed by those fantastic tunes from the Connery/Lazenby/Moore era.

    Not Adele's song itself, Stagg, we're discussing the score by Thomas Newman.

    It was a little too Hans Zimmer in places for my liking. However the whole film was a little too Dark Knight in places.

    Personally whoever is hired again, I hope they use more Bond theme. I've missed it in key action sequences.

    I absolutely agree, Barbel! -{

    He's the Peter Hunt in James Bond scores
    President of the 'Misty Eyes Club'.

    Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

    It is a disappointing score.

    SF is nowhere near my favourite Bond score. It beats some (FYEO, GE) but doesn't begin to top the best of Arnold yet alone the heights of Barry.

    I have a hard time comparing SF to other scores. I feel that Arnold has tried to preserve Barry's style while Thomas Newman wrote a score his way.

    I enjoy listening to it independently because I like Newman's work. But, I feel displeased that he didn't go the extra mile to make it a Bond score. I wish he went beyond his normal style and try to incorporate Barry and Arnold's style. I guess it's a bit of a love hate thing for me.

    Thunderbird Too.

    Skyfall's score is good music, a good score and is beautifully done. However, as a Bond themeI found it ordinary. John Barry put swagger and panache into his themes that spookily echoes the performances of the actor who plays 007.
    David Arnold brings something new in his compositions, modern twist energy. One of my favourite pieces is the cheekily titled "Come in 007, Your Time Is Up" ie the music that accompanies the Q Boat chase in TWINE. It crackles with high octane energy and excitement, while retaining the Bond musical feel Mr Barry created. It's a great piece to cycle or workout to, because like Bond its relentless. He also does sexiness and romance well too. "Dinner Jackets" and "Venice Lovers" reflect this in CR-06. The former is pure sexy swagger, and could easily have been used in Dr No. The later has echoes of Bond and Tracy in OHMSS. Yet both tracks feel modern and fresh for the scenes they accompany.

    To me, there was none of these things in the Skyfall score, though M-Manf has a nice signature piece and there is decent mood music in Shanghi and Macau. However the core elements to Bond's musical style I mentioned were missing. After all it's James Bond, not Meet Joe Black or Finding Nemo! Even though those films have pleasing music.
    This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

    I haven't listened to it independently of the film, but I remember that it left me completely cold during the film. The only time I was roused by the score in the theater was during the unveiling of the DB5, when the Bond theme played a bit... and that was just cut and pasted from David Arnold's CR score!

    I want Arnold back. But that said, the SF music didn't bug me as much as GE and LTK.

    I don't pay too much attention to the scores because, to me, they just blend in and the movie immerses me as a whole.

    That said, I do remember Skyfall's soundtrack being one of the best.

    Hello walther, i love skyfall theme because it totally fits in the mellow ballad category of 007 music, as opposed to big rock and roll like live and let die. it is very haunting, lush, mysterious sounding and adele does a great job with the emotions of the song too. she sounds herself sad and haunted. it also fits well with the dark creepy graveyard images and death themes in the visuals. that is key too. a bond song must go hand in hand with great visuals, props to maurice binder and the others who followed in the title sequence design. the song has what i call a big buildup to the end when the singer can really shine, and adele is great. so there are a few ideas.

    Did Maurice binder do the titles? I thought he was dead.
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 36,053Chief of Staff
    No, Mr Binder didn't do the SF titles (that was Daniel Kleinman) and yes, he died over 20 years ago.

    For me the title music should be interwoven and an integral part of the incidental music. Skyfall soundtrack fell down for me there. I just think it helps the film flow more easily and gives it a greater feel and sense of identity.
