Maybe this has already been done but .........
I always thought it would have been a cool idea for a story
To have had the Orson Wells " war of the worlds " broadcast.
Be discovered to have been a cover up, to hide the fact. That
An attempt had been made by aliens to invade earth ! :))

Hollywood really killed Orson Wells. The Editors were messing up his Films so much that it drove him mad :#

You could say that he suffered for his Art.

I can assure you now that there is 'something' on 'the other side'.

I've experienced ghosts first hand to know that it's not all bollocks.

However, there are many nutters and hoaxers out there. I was watching a clip on YouTube of some Dutch guys in a forest who claim to have filmed a mysterious creature in the trees. It's the usual shaky Bliar witch out of focus to-far-away-to-make-anything-out shot, with a good load of WTF?! and screaming for added effect.

Ya see when it comes to strange sea monsters, creatures in the woods and things that go parp in the night, you would have thought that some form of undisputed evidence would have come to light after all this time. And yet all we've got is still shaky VHS quality footage at best.

I would poo-poo ghosts too if it weren't for my own experiences.

Other stuff like UFO's however must stand for something (yeah I know what UFO stands for), but what im getting at is that although there's never been an official announcement of UFO's existence, to have several governments around the world set up departments to investigate their authenticity, tells me that there's something in it.

Like I said though, there's a lot of nutters out there. The trick is to be able to sift through the crap.

Don't believe in ghosts at all...in far too many instances it's the brain trying to sense from shapes...the brain constantly tries to make sense and order from chaos...and why no 'clear' images ? You would think there would be thousands of them...
Extra-terrestrial life ? No brainer...there just must be...but again, you'd think there'd be incontrovertible proof...

You guys do know that I used to be a psychiatric nurse?

1974-2006, 32 years. I know stories that could beat the hell out of anything you can read in the http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/44934/d-is-for-danger/ thread but I won't repeat.

Anyway, about 30 years ago I was in charge of a psychogeriatric ward in a hospital which had several wards closed when they moved to a new shiny hospital about 3 miles away. One of the wards that was closed was officially termed "Gynaecology"- in practice that meant that abortions ("terminations") had been carried out there between 1933 and 1986. Lord knows how many.

It became our habit of a weekend to raid the empty wards and commandeer desks, tables etc for the still-open wards. We'd obtain the keys from the porters and wander round with a roll of stickers putting "Ward 9" on whatever took our fancy.

One weekend my Staff Nurse (2nd in command) Sheila suggested to me that we take a look at the gyn ward, to which we had not ventured at this point. I asked the porters for the keys and off we went.

Happily we wandered through the ward, placing stickers on bedside cabinets etc, until we found ourselves in the Operating Theatre in which countless terminations had been carried out for thirty years. The door closed behind us. As we looked around for any equipment/furniture that would have been of use in our ward, I suddenly felt the sensation of being observed, as if thousands of eyes were looking at me. The closest description I can think of is: imagine you are standing in a packed Wembley Stadium with your eyes closed- you would KNOW you were being stared at even though you could not see it.

I turned to Sheila and to this day I can't remember who said what but it went:

    "Do you feel that too?"
    "Yes, we're being watched"
    "Let's get out of here!"

We left immediately and once outside both of us agreed we had felt the same sensation- being watched. Not with any malevolent intent, it has to be said, they did not mean us any harm, but it was true all the same.

We never ventured into that ward again.

As a sceptic, and one time magician. I used to love Penn & Teller ( still do)
They had a great show were they would test out various skills that people
Claim to have. Using the medical principle of, if you have an injury, several
Doctors would prescribe basically the same treatment.
That did feng shui, with three different experts and got three different rooms. :D
They did that one of looking at the eye to find what's making you sick. Again three
    Different answers.
Then they did Clairvoyants ! They chose a haunted house, supposedly haunted by
A businessman who lost all his money in the 20s and cut his own throat, sitting in
His bathroom in his barber's chair.
So at different times in come the three Clairvoyants. They discover a child haunting
the house ( no history of this at all), they found a mysterious lady in white who was
Jilted on her wedding day. ( once again no recorded of this ).
The funny part was one clairvoyant was sitting on the very same barbers chair, telling
His story and yet didn't pick up on any vibrations coming off of it. :D which both Penn
and Teller thought would be the most connected part of the house. :v

You used to be a psychiatric nurse Barbel, that must come in handy dealing with all of
    Us on AJB ? :))

My mam and dad used to live with a poltergeist, and although I have absolutely no proof of that whatsoever (it happened and they moved out before I was born) I must say that in my 30 odd years of existence not once have the stories changed, been used to scare me into going to bed on time etc or admitted to being made up. I have no reason to think I've been lied to for 30 years.

Mum's house now is haunted but I don't think much has happened recently. There were a few occasions that freaked me out that have no explanation. I never saw any ghosts, but things did go missing and end up all over the place, and on one occasion I could smell cigarette smoke quite strongly but only in one room. I called my mum in to see if it was just me and the first thing she said was "have you been smoking in here?". I didn't prompt her by asking if she smelt smoke or anything, or said "come and see if you can smell summat in here mam" when I called her.

After saying it wasn't me, she just said "oh this has happened before, it'll go in a minute" and soon after that the smell had gone.

There was no visible sign of smoke, just the smell. The neighbours don't smoke, mam and I don't, but both my grandad and dad did smoke, and they both died in that house...

After watching many of those ghost hunting shows on living TV. I
Made up my own" Spirit guide" ( Erasmus) :D , to explain any odd
    Noises and closing doors etc.
My kids thought it was mildly funny, and now even they say, if due
To a draught, a door slams shut " who annoyed Erasmus" :)) .
In an office I used to work in it had one of those self closing doors. Which
Took around 20minutes to finally close thight with a loud bang. So if you
Didn't know about it and perhaps were working late on your own. You would
Swear that someone must have slammed it !

In the D is for Danger thread I posted about my time at a closed psychiatric hospital.

It wasn't anything to do with danger more to do with an overwhelming compulsion to get out of the place !! Creepiest experience I've ever had.

There are definite 'vibes' you get about places.

Many years ago my Dad used to work in country pub that was a couple of hundred years old ( said to be one of the most haunted places in North West England) and there were stories galore of poltergeists and ghosts ... Glasses flying off the shelves etc ... My Dad,a very sensible man, hated going into the cellar and even as child I hated going into ' The Gun Room' because of the atmosphere.
