New Aston

What do you think about the new AM and the company making it exclusively for the film?
Has a company ever done this before (in any film)?

I was surprised by it's very different design. I can still tell it's an AM yet it's very futuristic looking.

I believe the CR DBS was made especially for the movie - the production version came out in late 2007 and was different in details from the one used on screen (the QoS one is a production car). So maybe in 2016 or 2017 they will release a production version of the DB10 - it would be plain stupidity to take the DB<number> name for a car that is a limited edition, it's purely a waste of the name. The DB's were always production cars and I think it will stay that way.

The CR DBS wasn't made especially for the movie, they used the prototypes and test vehicles. That's why they differ from the production models.

Ok, my bad then! Still - I think they won't stop on a limited run of 10 for the DB10, that would be ridiculous.

They've done it before though haven't they. No doubt there will be something similar released in the future, but it will differ from the unveiled SPECTRE DB10 or they would have 10 very rich people pissed off :))

As far as I know all of those 10 units are going straight on set, they're not even for sale! (at least a few car magazines are claiming that and it would make sense, because they used 12 DBS's in QoS and around 5 real DBS's in CR (not including the DB9's transformed into DBS's - at least that's what Craig said in an interview with Fifth Gear back in the day).

I'm not 100% happy with the new car to be honest so I don't mind! :D (not that I have the money for it anyway lol)

If that's the case then I wonder if they will be sold after filming. I can't see AM forking out all that R&D money on a one off project unless they are being part funded by EON, or that they are making considerable profit from the venture. If the former is true, then they won't be hard used on screen, but may be tricked out with gadgets. Time will tell, it's fun to speculate.

Well, Mendes said something about a higher budget this time. QoS and Skyfall budgets were around 200million$ so this might be the most expensive Bond in history, maybe that's why they were able to create a new Aston especially for the movie.

I'm still wondering however what is so special about it - Sam Mendes worked closely with AM to build this one, I bet it's not about the looks, for which Aston is 100% responsible probably, it might be the interior, the overal shape (I still don't get it why the rear is so short) and of course - the gadgets. Being used to a Bond without gadgets however might be hard for me to accept them.

Its grown on me. After noticing this thread I googled it again. I like it, it looks like something Bond would drive around in. The way Mendes unveiled it made me think they fully kitted it out with gadgets, like what they did with the DB5 in GF. Its funny to think how reluctant Aston Martin was to give EoN the DB5 in 1964, to them making a car for the film.

I very much doubt AM have scratch built a car just for the film. Marketing wise it doesn't make much sense, putting iconic mr bond in a car no one can buy...

Bare in mind that for tax purposes the vast majority of AM's used on screen end up scrapped as they're too costly to retain, either that or the car is totalled during filming.

My badly ed-yoo-k8-ed guess is that this very rare car will appear as a set dresser and not actually be used much at all.

Also with no real facts on the extent of the collaboration, we don't really
Know if it was only the styling, that eon had a hand in ?

Finally a good shot of the back, which looks astonishing. I was underwhelmed by the front but the rear brought faith back in me.
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
The front looks like a frog or a tesla roadster
The A pillar is too thick
The rear wheels are too far back, there needs to be slightly more overhang
The rear... diffuser? looks like grandad's sideboard
The rear lights are too thin
    P-Zero tyres are ****.

    I like the wheels.

The front reminds me of a Mazda rx8, the back looks like a BMW concept. It always takes time for new designs to grow on you though, and I have no doubt it will look stunning in the movie. Let's hope they make proper use of it, unlike the DBS chase in Quantum where it was exciting for 30 seconds then suddenly appeared to be in slow motion :#

Let's be honest guys...they've stuck the AML wings on a Ferrari :( ...bit like Ford sticking a DB9-esque nose on everything! :s

I am inclined to agree, the front is too much like a Ferrari.

Still, might change my opinion when I see more...

I notice that the wheels, as well as being rather lovely, also form a gun barrel spiral at the centre.

    Very nice touch.

Can you swim? Article in which the author speculates there may be more to the Aston Martin DB10 than meets the eye.

Please, no... That would be a huge let down for me, I started loving the movies with Craig specifically because of the lack of stupid gadgets like that. They even said in one of the interviews back in 2008 that gadgets are not amusing anyone anymore, in Skyfall Q even says something about not doing things like that anymore. So now all of a sudden we will get a gadget packed Bond, which will make the movies goofy again?

As for the bonnet - I would say that it will be a reverse opening one (the cuts on the sides at least indicate that)

It's heartbreaking for me to say something like this. I think it's f**king horrible! It only has a vaguely superficial resemblance to recent Astons like the Vantage And DBS. The headlights and radiator grill don't bear any resemblance to the car's lineage. The rear wheels are too far back. The basic design could be compared to a concept Jaguar, Ford, Toyota or Mustang. The entire rear end looks like the arse of Kitt from Knight Rider. (The crap 2010 Mustang hot-rod version, not the classic Trans Am we grew up with.) I love AM's, they are beautiful cars. This mess is a crashing disappointment, (pun intended) it looks like every futuristic concept car from Back To The Future, Minority Report and Demolition Man converged into something a little more contemporary. Ugly.

On a much happier note - welcome home Mini-G! :)
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

They even got rid of the iconic Aston vent. It looks like everything BUT an Aston.

  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
I too, wouldn't like to see another sub. Can't see it fitting with the new
Craig era of Bond films. I had thought when it was mentioned that it
May do some unexpected things, maybe Four wheel steering, or
Even the ability to drive on snow like a skidoo.

I've been thinking the same thing. It costs hundreds of millions to develop a new car, so why only make ten? Even at a million a piece, you're not going to come close to recovering even a fraction of your research and development costs. Unless this is all a ruse. Ten of these DB10s have been made for Spectre all gizmoed-up with whatever fanciful tricks the story requires. Ejection seats, underwater capability...whatever. The DB10 will be released to the public later but obviously not with the Bond gadgets.
  • Mach_eyyMach_eyy Detroit/Warsaw Posts: 36MI6 Agent
According to this article, the DB10 is simply a V8 Vantage with a new body.
    http://m.autoblog.com/2014/12/08/aston-martin-db10-based-on-v8-vantage-report/?post=2&icid=autoblog_river_article

Shame that they didn't use the new platform and Mercedes-sourced engines that the upcoming production models will be using.

To be honest, I like the look of the car, but I was hoping they would have used something like the Jaguar F-Type coupe/roadster.
