Heard this from one of the Hunger Games movies, by Lorde. It sounded like a contemporary Bond song to me, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are talks with her to audition a song, as well:

Based on that song, I could definitely see it happening.

Well, I do think QoS would have been a lot better if they decided to use the song written by David Arnold and performed by Shirley Bassey. If you listen to that song during the opening credits the entire score for the movie makes a lot more sense because Arnold used the theme throughout the rest of the movie.

For anyone who doesn't know this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAHu_ZKWcCQ

Many thanks for that - I wasn't aware of that at all!

In my very humble opinion, it's a bit half-baked, but then again I'm not the biggest fan of David Arnold. All very pastiche-y. And DSB not on great form with this (probably demo) vocal. But the biggest issue I have with it is that it isn't memorable. Keys/White might not be everyone's favourite genre, but it is a very memorable theme. And compared to Madonna's DAD, it is aural nectar.

I can't imagine Sam Smith (or whoever it is) singing the word SPECTRE in a Bond theme song.

As Barbel pointed out it doesn't have to be the last
Word in a line to rhyme. I.e

A spectre of love, a spectre of hate
The more loving I offer, the more that you take.
The more sensual the feeling, the longer the pain
And the deeper the heartache, all over again. :))

    This song writing's a piece of P*ss ! :))

    Here is Blondie's Bond song.
Blondie had a song for For Your Eyes Only, which i thought was kind of average, prefer Sheena Easton IMHO.
I think they will make the right choices. There has always been ups and downs with the Bond themes. Its not exclusive to Babs and Michael G Wilson. I mean TMWTGG by Lulu was pretty bad.

The title song doesn't necessarily have to have the title in in. I'm guessing SPECTRE is an acronym and the words of the acronym could be the words to the song. Or, the chorus section of the title music could be seven sentences long. Each sentence beginning with the letters to SPECTRE. The chorus could be sung three or four times.

Wow. Is it just me or has Shirley Bassey aged so well that she sounds better now than when she was younger?

I think she'd be an OUTSTANDING pick for Spectre.

Saw Dame Shirley perform Goldfinger on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing show recently and she still sounds very good. As much as I would like it, I don't believe she will perform another title song. If it was ever to happen I think the last chance was for Skyfall, the 50th anniversary of the Bond films, and all the nostalgia that brought with it.

Pastiche is inevitable, as with this song's equally derivative predecessor "Surrender". But I find these terms derogatory- can we agree on "homage"?
Both songs (+ "TWINE", which was used) are honestly intended and legitimate, since Don Black wrote the lyrics.
And no, that wasn't a demo vocal (and she sounds just fine to me).

I think lessons were learned about KD Lang.
They deffo got it right with Adele.
I hope for another classic Oscar nominated song.
    Sam Smith would be great.
    Dame Shirley would be majestic.

Completely agree. I would really like Dame Shirley Bassey to sing another Bond title song, for old time's sake. She's still got a magnificent voice, and as long as she has, I think she should be considered for the gig. She's proven three times over that she can do it.

Come on, EON, you know she's the right choice.

Are you guys worried that the next Opening Credits Theme Song for the new Bond film might turn out to be crap? Because twice Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have proved that they have no taste in music when they chose Sheryl Crow over K.D. Lang for the Tomorrow Never Dies theme song and they chose Jack White and Alicia Keys over Amy Winehouse for the Quantum of Solace theme song.

I can imagine why they chose the certain songs they did- like Sheryly crow V KD Lang, i think they were trying to be more updated in the song, so the computeristic noises and synthesis of Crows song worked well for a more 2000 feeling movie, as opposed to Langs mroe 60s bond style theme.
i can see why they chose what songs they did given how i think they wanted the movie to be portrayed, so an older style song like Langs would seem out of date to me if they used it.

I hope Daniel Kleinman does the opening titles and that Adele belts out the song.

    Again.
The top 7 Bond films: 1) Dr No. 2) From Russia With Love. 3) Thunderball. 4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service. 5) For Your Eyes Only. 6) The Living Daylights. 7) Licence to Kill.

    I'm still flabbergasted they didn't pick St. Etienne's version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URBH9vVie04&spfreload=10 8-)
It was round the time of Austin Powers, and sounds like it was more suited to those films!!

I disagree. Although I like Sheryl Crow's song well enough, I think k.d. lang's "Surrender" would have worked just fine for TND. And IMO it's a much better song.

I came on this thread with the attention of mentioning them, I think they would be perfect.

Even Alex Turner and Miles Kane would be superb.

Here's a thought.....instead of a vocalist belting out a tune, why not have an instrumental theme song? Maybe the London Symphony Orchestra could play a nice theme song.
