    I like the fights that look like two guys are out to kill
    Each other, with no fancy moves just brute force.
    The stairway fight in CR is one like that, while the hotel
    Fight in QOS is not as good as it's a series of locks and
    Counter holds. -{

    But they're not REALLY fancy moves. Mostly it was basic knife fighting- cut & let the other guy bleed out... again, fairly ugly. But real fights are fairly ugly. YIKES! Back on topic-
    The Bond/Grant fight is an all-time classic forever.
    Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

    That's the only other fight that I can compare with the FRWL train fight in terms of brutality. Amazing.

    I concur! They are hands down the two best brutal fights in the series IMO. -{

    I have seen a couple of knife fights and can tell you
    They looked nothing like the one in QOS. :D
    But yes The fight on the train in FRWL is the benchmark
    For all others. -{

    In real life? Surely not between two trained in knife fighting... untrained peeps with knives hunt & peck.

    No two yobs with too much drink ( I did a bit of door work)
    Nasty, brutal. On one occasion I had to remove from a " Lady's"
    Possession a broken bottle, she was about to introduce to a guys face. :#

    I just watched this one again. (I'm doing a marathon and just watched DN, FRWL and GF) I ALMOST enjoyed it even more than GF this time! (That could be for the reason that I've watched GF a billion times) I think it will defenitely get higher in my personal ranking!

    One of FRWL's greatest strengths is it's story, it's based on one of Fleming's best novels and that helps it a lot. The scenes on the Orient Express are still the most entertaining and thrilling of the entire movie. The fight with Grant left me amazed once again, even though I've seen it so many times! I still think the novel did a much better job at explaining the story though. I'm always quite happy to see that Grant explains the whole plot in the train once again, almost to 'recap' what has happened. I've seen the movie a lot, and I've read the novel as well, so to me the story isn't complicated anymore. But I do feel that everytime I watch this movie with a casual Bond fan, they're often quickly puzzled by the complicated storyline, especially early on. I sometimes wish M would have explicity explained that a random girl has fallen in love with Bond, instead of immediatly skipping to "I've never even heared of a Tatiana Romanova..." The novel also explains why Bond and Tatiana didn't take a plane back to London, but the Orient Express instead. The movie leaves that question unawnsered.

    Also, on a minor note I almost thought I actually saw this weird mistake in the movie just now. I'm pretty sure I must have seen this wrong, or else I would have heared about this mistake before, but here it is: When Bond and Tatiana get on the Orient Express in Istanbul, they are spotted by the Russian Agent sitting at the table. The other guy sitting at that table looks a lot like Krilenko. (But at that stage he is of course already killed by Bond's sniper) I'm sure I must have seen this one wrong, (I can't think of a reason to make a mistake like that) but he just looked an awful lot like Krilenko!

    PROS:
    - Great storyline
    - Great cast
    - Everything on the Orient Express
    - One of Connery's best performances
    - The Gypsy fight (yes I enjoy that too ;) )
    - The boat scenes

    CONS:
    - The complicated plot is layed out very quickly in the beginning (especially for casual movie watchers)
    - It shows that it's pretty low budget in some parts (but that also has to do with the fact that the movie is over 50 years old)

    MINOR complaints:
    - Bond waving away the film he throws in the water at the very end
    - The Bond theme playing when Bond is only checking his hotel room

    Another thing to add to my previous post. I know that Paula from Thunderball is also the gypsy in FRWL, however I always struggled to see which of the two is actually Paula, they both kind of look like her to be honest! Whenever the one in Red is in the screen I say: thats her. Then they zoom in on the one in green and I start doubting. Which one is Paula?

    The one who looks like Martine Beswick.

    The CR bathroom fight would propably be in the same league, if shot in color and edited without cutting to Bond's second kill. The PTS fight in OHMSS is great, but probably due to the beach setting it's not as brutal. I notice that the most exciting fights are set in very small spaces, as in the FRWL train or CR stairway. They pushed this as far as they could (the elevator in DAF) and more train fights (LALD, TSWLM).

    I agree. This is not just an exceptional Bond film, but it's an exceptional film.

    I had forgotten about the fight at the start of CR in the
    Bathroom, VM -{ ( must be an age thing ) :))
    And agree yes it's equally brutal although I do have
    A feeling it was shot in black and white, and in a
    Stylised way. To avoid any problems with the
    Film board etc. ;)

    I also thought for 1963, the fight between the girls was also very good
    As most other films at the time, would have been very tame.

    Another major pro for FRWL, Daniela Bianchi. She is one of the top Bond girls. I can even look past the awkward dubbing.

    I agree too. What's not to like about From Russia With Love? Nothing, as far as I'm concerned. It is the best Bond film ever made, and one of the best films of any genre, too.

    I preferred the ending of the novel over the ending of the film, though. I would've loved a cliffhanger ending, with Bond toppling over after being kicked by Krebb's poison-tipped shoe.

    Yes, but one *MUST* see it in Blu Ray! That gives it a theatrical dimension missing on regular DVD.

    How about this: You get your Bond memories temporarily wiped clean, and then are shown each Bond movie in between wiping your memory again. This way you have an honest first-time never before-seen reaction to each movie. Which one would you most positively react to? My guess is FRWL.
