    They're deeply spiritual men, .....
These men have taken a supreme vow of celibacy, like their fathers, and their fathers before them.. :))

As a super dorky side note Ian Fleming sister owned a Stradivarius cello, though I doubt she used it as a mode of transportation.

Yep, The character in the short story was based on her. ;)

And now the OCD pros & cons:

    Pros:
Bond unpacks and repacks his sniper rifle very precisely.
Bond is very careful not to touch the walls in the men's room stall with his hands.
Bond stacks the loads of opium very neatly.

    Cons:
Many things blow up during the course of the film leaving many messes that we never get to see cleaned up.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

To be honest I don't know, I learnt it here on AJB, but Fleming
Gave the cello girl in the book, the same name.

A common theme throughout the Cold War has been the desire of independence from third-world countries. Often times, the West had mistaken a desire for independence to be a desire to fight the Cold War on the side of capitalism.

At the time, the Soviets were the intruders and the Americans were helping them become more autonomous. But after the Cold War, with constant American intervention, Americans have become the new intruders. I'm not going to make comment on whether modern-day western intervention in the middle-east is good or bad, but just say that it's been more of a shift of perception than actual politics.

The west secretly funded the Muhjadeen on a mutual agreement that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". If the west decided to take an ideological spin and claim the Taliban to be capitalist heroes, that's on them.

That said, do you just let USSR take over Afghanistan? No, of course not.

Before this gets more political than it already is may I remind everyone here that this is a TLD thread, and not a discussion on Middle Eastern Geo-politics. A few references or comments is one thing, but let's keep the focus where it should be, okay? {[]

I agree. I said all that I needed to say on the Soviet-Afghan War, and yeah, we should focus on the other aspects of the movie.

No, I don't mean we can't talk about that aspect, it just felt like maybe we were headed to discussion JUST about Afghanistan.

Here's one: did Kamran Shah & his buddies actually have ammunition on them at the music hall at the end? Or was I seeing things...? :s

Well, fascism is what you are referring to I think. Nazism was very specific to Germany but let us not forget that Fascism (via Mussolini of Italy) came first and that Nazism is but a form of fascism.

IMO, it was important for TP to point out, that not all germans are Nazis still.
And indeed there are strong groups of neo-nazis in the US, UK, and other countries. For example Behring Breivik would label himself a neo-nazi and not a fascist.

    Sorry for the off-topic.

It's all semantics, Fascist / Nazi. We ALL know what it is when we see it.
In fact maybe some might not know it but thousands of Germans were
Killed by the Nazis for resistance. Brave men and women who dared to oppose
    The regime.
It's up there with All Muslims are terrorists, all immigrants are living on benefits etc.
It's not linked to any one country, Britain had Oswald Mosley in Ireland they had the
Blue shirts, today we still have the BNP etc. Even in America some of the rants coming
From the Tea Party have me worried.
Still it is a bit off topic so I'll leave it. But the 1940s was a long time ago, let's leave
It in the past. I come from a part of the UK where we're still arguing and fighting over
Battles fought in the seventeenth century. :)) at some point people we have to move on.
    Lastly

Higgins is wrong, TLD is a great Bond film and Dalton was blooming Fantastic as
    007 {[]

    Well then It's up to us to get it Back on track. -{

The Living Daylights has the best pts of the series, a great mini Movie in itself. A great, if not one of the Best Bonds
in Timothy Dalton. I even like the soundtrack :))
the only cons for me is a weak villain, in fact there's no real main villain, but it has far more good points than Bad.
    any other opinions ? :D

One scene I love is Bond in Pushkin's girlfriends Hotel room, Throwing him

    but it looked good to me. -{

Love the whole pts, the land rover sequence is a fantastic
Mini movie. {[] Although I never noticed ( still don't) that the
Other 00s were supposed to resemble Moore and Lazenby. ;)

I noticed probably the first time I saw it in VHS video, mind you! the resemblance to Lazenby is there, but the one who really catches the eye is the one that lools like Moore. They give him a close up, and they are clearly playing with audiences, because he's inmediately shot, and you go "nah, he can't be Bond".

in fact there's no real main villain

I nominate Koskov as the main villain:

    (1) The plot begins with his actions (the fake defection)
    (2) It ends with his capture (not with Whitaker's death even though he's the boss: Blofeld isn't the main villain of FRWL or TB)

    and most importantly

    (3) The leading lady switches from his side to Bond's (a classic 007 story element)
