Jarvis Cocker did one for OP

Did he ? I've not heard that before...I know Pulp did 'Tomorrow Never Lies'...plus Eric Clapton did one for LTK...

Alice Cooper did a song for TMWTGG and Jarvis Cocker
did one for OP, There's a Johnny Cash song for TB. All
have appeared on different albums and you can probably
    hear them on youtube. :)

Thanks for that. I'll give them a listen. Didn't Dionne Warwicke record the original theme for TB called Mr Kiss Kiss bang bang? Was this rejected for not being a Bondlike theme? I didn't know that Jarvis Cocker did one for Octopussy. That would have been over 10 years before Pulp made it as well. Out of all the performers chosen Rita Coolidge is the one that surprises me the most. She's good, but wasn't a very big star especially then in '83. I know Brocolli's daughter was a fan. Of course, it's who you know!
I've read they wanted Dusty Springfield to record the theme to Spy who loved me, but she was in some sort of rehab at the time. A real shame, she'd have been great. She did get to do The Look of love though 10 years earlier, which is the only thing worth mentioning about the original Casino Royale.

The pulp one is probably what I was thinking of, as he did
All Time High for the David Arnold album. :))

You can hear D Warwick's version over the titles of the
TB dvd ( one of the opitions ). Mr Kiss, kiss, bang bang.

Great! I've got that then. :)
It's amazing to think Blondie who were huge in the early 80s would have been rejected. Theirs is such a good theme it would have been nice to have had that as the closing theme, like they did with Kd Lang's closing theme (Surrender) on TND.

    I haven't heard Blondies song ( or if I have I've forgotten ) :))

I defy any Bond fan not to play Air Guitar when they hear
the opening guitar riff to Live and Let Die ! :))

    edited December 2014
Here's my list, edited as of 12/16/14. Listened to all of the songs a number of times. List is tentative and has room for change. I like them all, but some I like more than others.

    1. Nobody Does It Better (TSWLM) (Carly Simon) (↑6)
Single-handled reshaped the business of 007 themes.

    2. Skyfall (Adele) (↑4)
Dramatic and understated both. Thank Adele for Skyfall's success.

    3. Live And Let Die (Paul McCartney) (↑2)
Blossoms and accelerates into a frantic hard rock jam. Love it.

    4. The World Is Not Enough (Garbage) (=)
    Love the industrial/alternative/triphop approach.

    5. Thunderball (Tom Jones) (↓3)
Blaring trumpets, soulful vocals. Tom Jones put his heart and soul in it.

    6. A View to Kill (Duran Duran) (↑3)
All-around excellent. This is the heart of the 80's.

    7. Goldfinger (Shirley Bassey) (↓6)
Love it. Energetic, bright, uplifting, a little scary.

    8. Tomorrow Never Dies (Sheryl Crow) (↓5)
Nailts those high notes. Soothing, with energy.

    9. Diamonds Are Forever (Shirley Bassey) (↓1)
    Haunting, elegant, refined, alluring.

    10. For Your Eyes Only (Sheena Easton) (↑2)
Full of personality, variety and atmosphere.

    11 - The Living Daylights (Morten Harket, A-Ha) (↑10)
Bridled vocals, but nice sound. Pretty good.

12 - You Only Live Twice (Nancy Sinatra) (↓2)
    Subtle. Hypnotic, dreamy, sultry.

13 - Another Way to Die (Jack White & Alicia Keys) (↑1)
Unique with rock, rap and r&b elements.

14 - You Know My Name (Chris Cornell of Soundgarden) (↑1)
    Pumped-up summer action popcorn vibe.

15 - The Man With The Golden Gun (Lulu) (↓4)
Bond-ish anthem/theme song. Variety of vocal styles.

    16 - Die Another Day (Madonna) (↑3)
Corny. Tries to be rebellious. Fun, guilty pleasure.

17 - License to Kill (Gladys Knight) (↑1)
Good song. But not a good "Bond song".

18 - All Time High (OP) (Rita Coolidge) (↓1)
Sober. Kind of flat. At least it's not called Octopussy.

    19 - Goldeneye (Tina Turner) (↓3)
Ends on a short note as it gets good.

    20 - From Russia With Love (↓7)
Some flare and energy. Does what you expect it to.

    21 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (↓1)
    Decent enough. Nothing special.

    22 - Moonraker (Shirley Bassey) (=)
    A rehash.

For myself it's a tie between Adele's SKYFALL and Paul McCartney and Wings' Live And Let Die.

I thought OHMSS was an amazingly good theme -{ although nothing
Wrong with disliking it, we're all different. ;)

Updated ranking list as of 1/22/15. Will probably update again when Spectre's theme comes out. I don't hate any of songs, and I really enjoy all of them except for maybe the bottom few.

    2 - Skyfall (=)
    3 - Live And Let Die (=)
4 - The World Is Not Enough (=)
    5 - A View to a Kill (↑1)
    6 - For Your Eyes Only (↑4)
    7 - Thunderball (↓2)
    8 - You Only Live Twice (↑4)
    9 - Goldfinger (↓2)
    10 - The Living Daylights (↑1)

    17 - Die Another Day (↓1)
    18 - All Time High/Octopussy (=)
    19 - License to Kill (↓2)
    20 - Goldeneye (↓1)

    IMHO-
    FYEO is the best.
SF, GF, YOLT, AVTAK are great themes.
MR is fantastic. I prefer overall, the slower romantic themed onces.
Another way to die and DAD are the worst. but they all listenable and worthy songs

Hard to pick one, but my top 5 is:

    1. From Russia With Love: I just love that instrumental version of FRWL with that rapid 'Bond is back' intro, the Hammond organ which is prominent in the film version, and then it segues into one of my favourite arrangements of the James Bond Theme.
    2. Goldfinger: Classic song, great brassy arrangement and vocals belted by Shirley Bassey.
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service: I just love the instrumental theme. One of the greatest action themes ever, I think.
    4. Goldeneye: This doesn't seem to be getting any love on this thread, but I've always been a fan. Maybe it is because it is from my childhood and has nostalgic value. But I think it is an excellent theme song.
    5. Live And Let Die: I love the fast paced, orchestral rock arrangement in this song. And as a big Beatles fan I like that McCartney is the vocalist.

Say what you like about the movie itself, the title song for Diamonds are Forever is about the best they've done.

I was on the tablet, so not watching the telly when I heard a bit of
Another way to die, playing. I looked up to see what foolish company
had decided to use it for their advert ?
    Turns out it's "007 for Women". :))

It's hard to argue with that, unless instrumental themes are included (DN, OHMSS).

If instrumentals were included, OHMSS would be the best hands down IMO.
