"OK Connery" the movie (1967)

So I'm channel surfing when all of a sudden I see Moneypenny (Lois Maxwell). I continue to watch, and more and more faces from 1960's Bond movies start to appear. It's basically a spy flick starring Sean's supporting cast. I can only imagine how pissed off Cubby Broccolli was.....(unless he had a cut of the action..........)

    Exactly. Neil Connery, I think.

I'm checking it in youtube, it's very funny. Connery could very well play the young character that his brother played in "The Russia House"!

I've only seen the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version. It's pretty funny and well-worth a watch.

This is him nowadays. Strangely enough, I thought he would look like this...

He looks so much like Sean, but in a gentler sort of way. They could have offered him the Bond part in 1968. He was the right age, certainly looked the part, and even had more acting experience by then than Lazenby did.

I don't think so, but at least he had done that one movie in 1967 where he met a large part of the Bond cast, and surely he had the right connection to be able to get a few tips on how to play Bond ;) . I'm joking of course, but I'm sure at some point the idea must have crossed the producers' minds.

I've read that Connery gave Bernard Lee and Lois Maxwell the cold shoulder during the opening weeks of filming You Only Live Twice because they appeared in OK Connery.

I think Connery thought that his brother was being exploited.

Yeah, Neil Connery had no acting experience. He was a roofer.

Despite what some people claim, this was his only acting role - some sites miscredit him as the villainous Bond in "Mad Mission 3: Our Man From Bond Street"; that ain't him.

He did an anti-shoplifting ad a few years after that film.

During Diamonds, Connery made it up with Maxwell because his brother had told him how during the press for the movie, if he got a difficult question she would nudge him with her ankle and she'd answer it, ie she looked out for him and when Connery heard about this he relented.

Neil starred in a (I think) a science fiction film called "The Body Stealers" afterwards, this was shown on British tv many years ago.

Mmm, so i finally worked up the enthusiasm (courage) to invest two hours of my life towards watching this abomination, yes i managed to watch it from start to finish!...and indeed it was every bit as bad as i imagined it might be. knowing very little about it going in i wasn't sure what to expect and by the end i'm still not sure what it was, i mean was this a serious attempt at making a Bond(esque) movie or was it a spoof? and how did the Italian producers convince Bernard lee and lois maxwell that this was a good idea?.
I expect the other notable actors involved were easier to convince as( lets face it) none of them were exactly familiar faces on the cinema screen outside of the roll played in the respective Bond movie.
I can only imagine the anger and annoyance of Brocolli and Saltzman (not to mention Connery) when this got the green light, i mean you would of expected Lee and Maxwell to have been under contract NOT to be involved in any film that parodies or imitates the Bond movies?. The movie itself seemed in the same vein as Goldmember, The spy who shagged me, but worryingly it also seemed to be taking itself seriously at the same time, particularly Neil connery who was trying to give his real kid brother a run for his money.
So my curiosity now stemmed i can now try and forget this silly film but it's still two hours i ain't gettin back 8-)
ive smelt that aftershave before and both times ive smelt a rat

I read that Connery had a go at Maxwell about starring in this. She responded that it was ok for him being a multi-millionaire, but she needed all the work she could get. He apologised and understood.

I saw this abomination on a dreadful VHS transfer in the 80’s, every bit as bad as the film itself.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
