In a way though have we not had the Blofeld trilogy plus one as Blofeld was behind everything that has happened since CR :)

No Blofeld trilogy will end with Blofeld alive, and in captivity ;)
yolt,OHMSS and daf spring to mind and dn, Frwl and Thunderball all featured Blofeld so that's 2 trilogy's he's survived :))

The first three is fair (though he was presumed dead)...and the second three don't qualify :p

i would rather have them start fresh with a regular new mission , and with madeleine gone without being mentioned, but they already made it clear that bond quit

I am having a hard time that they would bother getting lea seydoux or christoph waltz back on callback for the next film, for whatever reason. I know daniel wants to do it.

I think when Craig goes, a soft reboot is in order. I don't want to see the new Bond start as a new agent, but we should not be made to assume that the events of the Craig films happened to the new Bond. Craig's Bond has had a good arc, and while SPECTRE had some flaws, it would be a perfect way to bookend his tenure.

I hope they will keep the same actors for M, Q and maybe Moneypenny and Tanner after Craig leaves. The next Bond should have his own story unrelated to Craig's, but I think it should be believable that it the events of Craig's Bond could have happened in the past.

I really don't want another Bond films that's going to say "What happened in the last film wasn't what you really think it was, and we're gonna go back and revisionize the previous stories just to make this story look really cool". And I don't think they can do a 2nd Blofeld trilogy without doing that.
  • ToTheRightToTheRight Posts: 314MI6 Agent
Be a shame to completely lose what was built the last four films with M, Q and Moneypenny. However considering the Craig films follow a story arc I have a hunch when Bond is recast, everyone else will be too. I can't picture someone like Tom hardy Idris Elba or Henry Cavill just stepping into Craig's Bond world the way Moore transitioned from Connery.
I'd hope Craig comes back for more, but I'd much rather the next film be a stand alone regardless of whether Blofeld/Spectre returns.

Q, M and Moneypenny were excellent. I hope they recast Craig and keep them.

They wont be able to keep ESB in jail. Remember what Mr. White said ''He's Everywhere!'' The future sub plot will be when Blofeld escapes Bond will be regretting he had the bastard dead to rites and didn't kill him. All future ESB related mayhem will be on Bond's conscience.

It will be as hard to get ESB, behind bars as it is to get Tony Blair there ! :D

I do believe that Craig will return for at least one more film.

But -- and I"m not being entirely snarky with this -- it will depend on what other films have done. The Craig films have, more or less aped the character arc of the Nolan Batman films. So, if there's some other way to do this, I wouldn't be surprised if it was so.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the next Bond film hardly even links to this one. Madeline Swann is simply out of the picture and Bond is called back to duty for some reason. Hopefully it won't be because the secret service is once again being threatened. If Waltz does not wish to return, they could easily just not even address Blofeld at all, as presumably he is already in prison. Even if he does, the choices the producers make don't seem to be guided in what might be considered a natural conclusion.

Good points -{ If they do leave ESB alone for a picture or two, they could have him escape to be pursued by a recast Bond lead...and if some time has gone by they could equally recast ESB.

That said, I envision Craig and Waltz will be back for #25...but I pray Eon resists the temptation to reimagine the last scene of OHMSS, and make it a revenge vehicle X-( Enough of that, already...

I suppose if they did OHMSS next, it would be too soon after Casino Royale. Fans would be going, "really? Bond is out to avenge a dead lover again?". At least in the novels several years had passed between CR and OHMSS.

Maybe they could jump straight ahead to YOLT, with Blofeld killing several people to escape and giving Bond enough motivation to go after him.

I don't know how they proceed from here but if nothing else I definitely think blofeld has to return. That is not a character one brings back lightly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this sig. This sig loves you.

Would love to see B25 in the mold of LTK:

    a) Blofeld escapes (may be with the help of Hinx)
    b) Blofeld kills Swann
    c) This forces Bond to rejoin
    d) Bond tracks Blofeld and finally puts him to rest
    e) An opportunity to recast Lucia as she has a lot of information on SPECTRE

If they include John Barry type of background score and Shirley Bassey type of theme song, that would make it a special film

some genuinely good ideas upthread, I would much rather you guys were writing the movies

if Swann does not reappear in the next film, her absence should be acknowledged in-dialog
as with Tiffany Case at the beginning of Flemings FRwL
M watched Bond make his choice on the bridge, he knows Bond chose to put down the gun and leave with his new ladyfriend
therefor he has reason to ask about that, next time Bond is in his office, back again looking for a new job

Blofeld escaping captivity and hiding under the disguise of the CEO of the Octave private military corporation, whilst Britain's aircrafts (as well as other countries' military projects over the world) are being mysteriously being bombed.

That would be really odd if M asked about Madeline. M and Bond are not best friends, and M would be able to guess what happened. There's too much awkward dialogue in the Craig films.

I very much like these ideas with exeption of number b)
and as for number e) yes, this would give them the opportunity to make her a main Bond girl :D

It's more the lesser number of film adventures in-between, rather than elapsed years, I think ;) In the novels, Bond had a lot of missions between the deaths of Vesper and Tracy.

OHMSS is nine novels and five short stories later.

Bond 25 is four films after CR.

Spectre shows that Bond is just barely able to move on from Vesper (he hesitates when he sees the video tape, but then shows us he is ready to move on), whilst in the novels he gets over her much more quickly and has many more encounters between Vesper and Tracy. I think the next film is definitely too soon. Events happening counts for more than time passing.

A critic friend of mine told me she wished they'd end Craig's story arc before tackling Spectre so the next actor could play the Spectre story arc.

I think I agree that would have been best, since I am disappointed by Spectre.

It feels like they've taken a step toward OHMSS and now I want Craig to play it through but what will be left when he does leave? Will they reboot again or have to go back to a non character developing one-off formula like the old films?
  • Miles MesservyMiles Messervy Posts: 1,757MI6 Agent
I doubt we ever see Waltz play Blofeld again. At least I hope not.

The ending of SPECTRE would be a perfect send-off for Craig's Bond. If he does come back, I hope they don't go the revenge route with Swann dying. What a bore.

I'm curious why people think taking the OHMSS route would be a bad idea? Is it because the revenge plot was already done? Or do they just want a stand alone mission movie?

It's too soon. But if they do it to adapt the You Only Live Twice novel then I'd be okay with that. The biggest problem I have is that I don't like the way Craig does revenge Bond. Dalton set the bar so high in LTK and Craig didn't come anywhere close in QOS. I'd like to see Craig show some anger, sadness and fear like Dalton did. Bottled up emotions doesn't work on film, and it certainly doesn't tell people anything in real life. I bottle up emotions and people think I'm perfectly fine. ;)
