Blofeld Trilogy

You could consider CR, QOS and SP a trilogy of some sort. Except only 1 of them features Blofeld. I don't want a 2nd Blofeld trilogy. 1 nostalgic film was enough, but I want to tread new ground - not beat old ground to death. Plus, while Spectre was good, I don't think it was interesting enough to spawn 2 additional films.

I can see that parallel; DN as being the original birth of cinematic Bond and CR being a rebirth for 21st century. I don't get QoS parallel with From Russia with Love as QoS is a direct follow-on from the events of CR.

Actually, SPECTRE wants revenge for the death of Dr. No in FRWL, so that makes FRWL the closest thing to a direct sequel of all Bond films until QoS.

True. Dr. No is mentioned. Don't forget Sylvia Trench, who mentions when Bond left for Jamaica.

The only reason Dr No gets a mention was because they desperately wanted
to remind the audience " We're the same team that brought you Dr No" :D it
was only the second film ( they had hopes to make 6) ;)

If they kill her I'm done with new Bonds for a while. I'll just keep re-watching SPECTRE. X-(

I hope there's not two more. Spectre was a nice nostalgic retread, but once was enough. We got the "Ah, that's classic Bond!" moment and that's really all we needed. There wasn't enough depth to spin off two more films.

I feel like Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were the core of the Craig years, and after that it sort of lost focus. Quantum really developed an interesting organization and plot, and Spectre kind of made a joke out of it. Then again, I guess that's what Diamonds Are Forever did too.

If we're going to have Blofeld again, it would be nice to replace Waltz with a more masculine Blofeld (in the same way Savalas did to Pleasance).

You don't think starting out with a mysterious sinister realistic organization and then saying it all happened because Bond's foster-brother was jealous of him is a joke?

Getting back at Bond was merely a bonus, not the main function of the
    Organisation.

They copied "Luke, I am your father" and "Austin, I am your brother". It's the most trite plot twist in the book and we knew it was going to happen.

In order to create a trilogy, the core of something needs to be strong? Did Spectre really have enough depth and curiosity to it to spawn 2 additional 2 hour movies out of?

We can debate serious vs. camp all we want, but Spectre is totally unfocused in its direction. I love films like Octopussy, but Spectre had no clue whether it wanted to be a nostalgia film, or a modern one. A campy film or a Bond-goes-to-therapy-again film. A lot of films mix humor and seriousness. Sam Mendes did that excellently with American Beauty. But in Spectre, the outlandishness puts the believability of the story and characters into question. Yet, it doesn't allow itself to have too much fun because the Vesper and the glib psychological elements had to come back.

Spectre had no core. It just felt like a series of re-writes. At least Quantum knew EXACTLY what it wanted to be, stuck to it and dominated that realm.

I agree QOS was excellent, but SP was FUN. In MY Bond world there is room for both. Dan's performance ALONE brings SP to a higher level, just as Tim's performance ALONE makes his two my all-time favourite Bonds.
The difference here is Tim's two had lasers.

It's all about the lasers in a Bond film IMO. :))

    Just because SPECTRE was a certain way doesn't mean that one or two follow-up films will be the same. Now that they got a "Bond's Greatest Hits" out of the way with SPECTRE, #25 and/or 26 could return to a different tone entirely. Mendes may not return so it would not be wise to jump to any conclusions. There is precedent for this. Skyfall was certainly a different film from QOS....and SPECTRE was a bit of a departure from Skyfall. Again I must remind folks that these are Bond films.....silly escapist entertainment done with class and panache...not serious documentry style polemics on the state of mankind...... :)) -{

Waltz saying he will do it could be the impetus to get Craig back...

I am happy to hear that Waltz is up for more Bonds. That is great news, IMO. It would be fantastic if they could pull it off without retreading OHMSS with Madeleine Swann's murder...

Spectre feels like the first of a trilogy--the set up for what will follow. If the two films that follow complete the idea, it will serve its purpose.

I didn't find anything in Spectre any more outlandish than anything in Skyfall, which is built far less on logic than sentimentality, and it was a lot more entertaining than Quantum of Solace. The writing is thin, but then the writing of most movies today is thin. They are either overplotted, like the slew of comic book movies that thinks throwing in everything but the kitchen sink is good writing, or underplotted, with barely the pretense of a story. That is mostly where Spectre treads. But all of Craig's Bond films except Casino Royale are better at the ideas than the execution, which often is expository lip service rather than actual dramatization. At least Spectre didn't pretend as much that it had "depth" as the previous two did.

Spectre felt more to me like the final film of the four that came before. Tthat's what I felt the film was shoving down my throat. It was trying to complete something more that it was trying to start something new.

Do you think DC and Waltz will compromise, and just return for 1 more? Making DC's total 5 films? I'd be happy with that.

I don't think Craig will compromise. He'll do more if he wants to, but I don't think Waltz will have much bearing on him coming back. Spectre was a much easier film for Waltz. His biggest challenge was putting up with the desert heat. And the heat wasn't even that bad for him because he didn't have to wear socks!

Exact same thing my mom said. On the other hand, you got Craig who has to bulk up and get injured in the process of filming.

I wouldn't mind a trilogy with Waltz as Blofeld. Not sure about Swann being murdered - sounds a bit too much like an OHMSS rip-off - but perhaps it could open with her funeral. I'd still like to see Bond hook up with a female 00-agent but that's for the writers to wrestle with. Maybe the idea of back-to-back Bonds - BOND 25 & 26 released a year apart - wouldn't be too bad. That way Craig could knock out a final two films without the long wait in-between. Let's face it, Craig would be mid-50s by the time he did BOND 26! As fit as he is, I think that'd be stretching it. Mind you, I've read Harrison Ford wants to do another INDIANA JONES & he's 73!! Good grief...!

    The express paper reports:
Daniel Craig WILL make TWO more Bond films with Christoph Waltz returning as Blofeld
CHRISTOPH WALTZ has signed up for two more films as James Bond villain Blofeld but ONLY if Daniel Craig returns as 007.Christoph Waltz is set to return for two more films as the villain to end all villains after signing up to reprise his role.SPECTRE left a lot of doors open with a rather convoluted and, for many viewers, rather messy and drawn-out ending.
After revealing that Blofeld had been behind all the villains of the last four films, he was taken away to prison.
Crucially he is not dead, and we have seen how easily baddies like Javier Bardem's Raoul Silva can escape from Her Majesty's clinks.
"Christoph could make a brilliant ongoing man for Bond to battle like in the old days,” a source told the Daily Star, after revealing that the Austrian actor hasd signed on the dotted line for two more films."But the important clincher of it is that Blofeld can only work with Daniel back in the role to keep continuity," the Hollywood insider added.
There is aleady speculation that Blofeld may be the catelyst to end Bond's new-found happiness with Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux).
007's lady friends never last long and it seems difficult to imagine how James could function as a ruthless, single-minded secret agent if he is feeling warm and fuzzy while living in domestic bliss.
It seems likely that Swann will not survive far into the next film, if at all, with Blofeld the logical agent of her death. This would handily set Bond back on an explosive quest for vengeance. With Waltz's return conditional on Craig also coming back, it looks like the British star's protests will soon be forgotten.
The franchise's producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have already said that they are committed to Craig's return.
“We think we’ve got him but we don’t have a contract, yet,” Wilson told reporters recently.
Although SPECTRE hasn't quite matched the incredible billion-dollar box office performance of Skyfall, it has currently grossed $865,000 (£567,000) which means that nobody will be keen to tamper with a winning formula.
Daniel Craig may be shaken and stirred at the thought of making another outing as 007, but the writing's already on the wall...

Although apparently one of our members is DC's agent and knows better lol
