I'm on this page, no explanation required as someone else said (sorry I forget who) a simple " it didn't work out" would be enough.

Same. It's silly to have Bond fall in love with every woman; that's what makes Vesper different. Madeleine isn't presented as anything other than a nice fling; he cares about her but that doesn't mean wedding bells will ring. Seeing as the next film is probably about three years away, I don't think people will remember the character to warrent her return.

But Bond quit his job for her. That's a serious move for only a nice fling.

I'm not so sure he quit for "her" per say, but for the chance of getting out, and he saw life with her as the best option. I got the impression that by the end of the film she loved him more than he loved her. That's not to say he didn't care about her, I just think the case could be made that he didn't exactly fall in love with her, and that by the time we see him again he could still be in retirement and no longer with Swan.

There wasn't an awful lot of noise for Bond 20, which was a much more round anniversary,...

Like the suggestion of Craig/Bond being recalled to service but not have him burnt out but working for say a private security company and uncovers some fiendish plot by said company which turns out to be a front for spectre who are planning to spring Blofeld! Possibilities are endless!

I would honestly prefer something like this to a revenge-driven plot. But I have a feeling that a Swann death and its obvious, predicable aftermath is all but inevitable, particularly if there aren't new writers in the stable for #25.

I wouldn't be surprised by another revenge-driven plot. Craig's Bond films are all more about the character than they are about an agent on a mission. I really don't see them going back to Bond being a British agent on a mission again if Daniel Craig is still Bond. Another revenge/rogue story would fit more with Craig's other films than Bond being sent on a mission would fit. A mission like most of the old Bond films just wouldn't fit for Craig's Bond.

Yes. Warts and all, Craig's Bond is more about Bond than anything else, and while that's worked for Eon, I have come to believe that it is crucial for Bond #7, whenever he comes, to be a more traditional Bond who goes on missions, beds women and drinks his vodka martinis. Craig rebooted the character effectively for the 21st Century, but there is only so much gold to be mined from navel-gazing.

I completely agree. Craig has brought some elements of Fleming's character that the films hadn't seen before, but his films have done away with much of the essence of Fleming as well. I'd like to see the next Bond have elements of Fleming's character but also have Fleming-esque stories. Basically, more films like The Living Daylights.

I am convinced that Craig was sold on the Bond role with the notion that he was recreating the character for modern times, and he was understandably excited by that prospect.

I don't agree that they've done away with any essence of Fleming during his tenure, but they have undeniably limited themselves with their current approach. They simply need to use Craig's Bond as a springboard to leap forward, and keep doing what Bond does. The challenge, as ever, will be keeping him relevant whilst paying respect to the past...but they really need to stop copying the past, as arguably happened with SP. Admittedly, it's a tall order.

No real need to kill Swann off, would be pretty cool if they used what happened to Tiffany Case in the novels the romance just ran its course and she went back to America, think it was mentioned in FRWL (have'nt read the novels for many years so forgive if wrong) it could be briefly mentioned by Moneypenny or something like that. As said though will probably be another bloody revenge film :#

I think they have as Loeffs suggests limited some elements consciously, it was always been a balancing act and personally I feel that they need not have been so cautious with it.i see no reason why Craig Bond could not just go on a mission, even now it's not too late.like others I feel that the Swann revenge narrative is sadly both inevitable and predictable. I would like to see Craig's last as a fitting coda, less pyrotechnics, smaller budget, shorter run time and sooner.
