Very disappointed Thomas Newman is doing the Spectre score

Trouble is, if Mendes comes back (he said he wouldn't after Skyfall and look what happened) then Newman will be back too. Newman has nothing more he can offer this series. A third Newman Bond score is not welcome.

I'm not a Thomas Newman fan at all but I actually think the score worked really well with the film. There were some very interesting and memorable cues (Eternal City, Donna Lucia, Secret Room, Crows Klinic) and I was so happy to see the integration of writing's on the wall into the film, even if not intrinsically linked throughout.

It's way better than Skyfall even though its actually about 50% Skyfall.

    I liked it as well -{
My favourite track out of all of it has to be "writing's on the wall" instrumental. It was so powerful and really fitted the theme of the film.
Backfire and Los Meurtos track were fantastic. I felt like Newman really improved in his action score, with Detonation being one of my favourite action tracks in the rich tapestry of Bond scores.
Listen carefully to the bond cues at the end of the piece. Truly spectacular

I agree... I've just bought it, and listening to it now...

It's actually quite complex, and as much as there is SF throughout... there is also a lot of theme running through it too.

I liked the soundtrack. My only complaint - or request, I suppose - is that I would have liked the drumming in the opening track to be as long as it was in the film before the instrumental starts.

I don't think Mendes will be back! but Newman may well be, as he has become an ingredient in a box office winning formula, I do like his work.....it's just not that bondian for me...and I don't find myself humming it like I do African rundown or ohmss, I also find some of the Newman tracks heavily Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore influenced.

Considering the end titles still featured David Arnold's arrangement of the Bond theme from CR, he hasn't been forgotten. Newman was only there because of Mendes. Newman's awful scores aren't part of the formula that made Skyfall do so well. Casino Royale proved that a film with a score that sounds like Bond can still be very successful.

I'm not sure Martin Campbell would do another, but hey, they may give him the reigns to introduce another Bond once Craig as finished?

I wouldn't be surprised if Mendes did one more and that may be Craig's last.

I would actually quite like to have Mendes do 3 and create the Mendes-films - like Terence Young, Guy Hamilton and John Glenn.

I wouldn't mind another Mendes film either, maybe it's because I am and was before bond a DC fan and that CR (06) was the reboot that I revere that film so much, and so have a fondness for Mr Campbell.

I agree on the fondness of CR-06, its my favorite of all the films, and I can't choose between any of the others, I enjoy them all in different ways.

I think I have got used to Mr Mendes's approach because I am expecting a very theatrical style after SF, so that might be why I enjoyed SP so much in comparison. I expected moments that trowel on that dynamic. However he brings in Mr Newman who's music is nice.
Trouble is, Bond music does not need to be nice. It also needs to be epic! (I'm still peeved that I was intrusively seeing SF scenes in my head when I was listening for SP at the Odeon!) :s I will shut up about this now. - Until we know who is scoring the next film!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I think Newman has found his feet as a Bond composer. The Spectre soundtrack had that familiar Bond feel. Somthing that Skyfall lacked for me.

It has familiar feel because you heard it before in Skyfall. It completely lacks Barry's feel, which David Arnold often got right.

Finaly listened to it all the way through today, same opinion as the movie, dull, can't even remember one track from it.

the main problem with Thonas Newman is that he completely forgets about the Bond theme and doesn't build on it. David Arnold once said he himself uses it whenever Bond does something typical bondian. Newman should really use it, it would make any scene better.

I have listened toa. Few tracks, and it made me realised he slips cues for the Bond theme in, but just doesnt go any further than a few notes!

If there is no Mendes for Bond 25 there won't be any Newman.....I would guess if it is up to EON David Arnold will return. I'd be more than fine with that. That being said, I didn't think the SPECTRE score was a disaster...it had its moments.

Listened to the soundtrack album today ( Christmas present from my kids) and really
quite liked it, sure there seems to be a bit of Skyfall reused, but it has a few really good
    tracks.

Listening again to the Spectre soundtrack, I get a feeling of a nod to
    Bernard Hermann at times.

Hmm yes a nod to Hermann, with an undertone of Skyfall, a slight aroma of Zimmer, with an occasional tang of elfman, yes I concur vintage 2015.....but would benefit from some more Barry I feel.

Whilst the music may have some orchestrations like Herrmann's music, in concept the score is very much like Zimmer's music. Apart from a few seconds here or a few seconds there, Barry's sound was absent from the film. David Arnold is really the only composer that has used Barry's sound. Hamlisch used it a little,
