Disappointed perhaps sums up my experience. I was only half expecting this latest film to be better than Skyfall & indeed it was yet how those responsible still manage to spin out a 'storyline' over two & a half hours which at a push should have lasted no more than thirty minutes is a testament to their continued commitment to style over substance. On this occasion those responsible were indeed the authors of my pain. Sterile characters throughout & the stop start nature of the action began to grate from the point Madeline Swann made her appearance. I will go as far as to say that this will be my last new Bond film, at least until those in the driving seat learn that there is much more to James Bond than what they seem committed to produce.
Bond, Bond wherefore art thou James Bond?

Personally for me it was LTK. Yes I know it's controversial. I just cannot warm to Craig - not so much him as I don't think he's a bad Bond, it's more a case of the direction the franchise has taken.
Not as bad as the Moore years surely. The literary Bond is my anchor too, so I know your pain, but Flemings Bond was last seen in OHMSS for me, or arguably FRWL. I just see the films and IF books as two very different entities as much as I seperate the Bond and Bourne/MI films. Craig looks nothing like Bond, he looks like a thug and walks like a thug. But I do enjoy him in the role and he's on the same level as Connery now for me. I can't believe I'm saying it, but I like his performances. It doesn't make sense.
I agree on the writing though. It's not been any good in decades. Casino Royale being a slight exception.
I'm able to adapt & find fun in most any Bond movie, but I'll have to admit, these days it's just not the same...

I do love the literary Bond, but I enjoy the films for different reasons, I was and still am disappointed that Craigs bond shifted from CR and QoS style, I thought Craig was continuing from Timothy Dalton in an up to date way. Holding Dalton in high regard is not controversial IMHO if you want to be controversial try being a fan of qos.
Ive been a Daniel Craig fan for years before he was bond and also as a lifelong bond fan it's a perfect union for me and so I enjoy all his bond films, Despite their failings.
As it happens I enjoy all the bond films for different reasons, I'm quite happy to watch any Bond film at any time
{[] Me too!
Thank you, but you obviously haven't heard my records.... )
Na, seriously, I'd love to just see M give Bond a mission which he then pursues: the slogan to be "James Bond 007 is back. This time, it isn't personal".
As for Spectre I just feel it was another opportunity wasted. The wafer thin plot which could not stand up to drive by scrutiny, the 'motivation' of Blofeld, the predictable set pieces. I could go on.
I have felt for some time (since QoS in fact) that the franchise needs reboot 2 in order to let it get back to Bond basics. This need not nor should not mean going into reverse, quite the opposite in fact. It needn't involve cast changes either. Just give Craig something he can really get his teeth into - a solid story with solid villains is all he needs.

Your assessment is even harsher than mine, but I generally agree with you.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I take it you didn't tell your Mrs that ? )
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Of the two movies, which is your favourite ( I agree both are very good
indeed ) -{
But SF was not as bad as I've remembered it
Additionally my pal's 84'' TV was certainly doing the movies good
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
it must have looked fantastic on such a screen. -{
I would prob rate the DC era as:
1) Casino Royale
2) SPECTRE
3) QOS
4) SkyFall
PS - talking of ratings whats happened to him who rates everything ?
Unless there is a seismic shift away from what has become the pattern for the films It will be the last new Bond film I will watch.
