I am planning this winter on going to the restaurant that was the set for OHMSS, atop the Schilthorn Mountain peak, above Murren, Switzerland. Has anyone been? Does anyone has tips or suggestions?

I have been there numerous times, last time February 2017.

I am Swiss of course :))

Do you need to know the travel plan how to get there? What would be your starting point? I suppose you have a hotel somewhere in Switzerland?

Also winter technically is over three months. Do you have an exact travel date or month? Because that will influence the journey.

I have been to Switzerland many times in February and we were hoping to go that same time of year. We are wanting to go to Mittersill Austria (the death place of my favorite composer,) and other locations within Austria. We want to start in Switzerland, possibly fly into Germany. I'm just been having a hard time finding any kind of good information on things that you can do around that location. My husband and I really love skiing and all kinds of winter sport. You live in the mountains in North Carolina, which do not compare to Switzerland, but we do best in extreme cold.

Murren is the nearest town of course.

Each to their own, but I'd go in summer. Bernese Oberland is terrific then, esp if you are into hiking/walking holiday stuff. You can also walk down from Piz Gloria to Murren, it's a great trip. I assume you can still do this, I did some 25 years ago. You don't say if you ski at all, that might make a difference to your trip at that time of year.

Mittersill is close to kitzbuhl a well known skiing destination, your also not far (2 hours by car) to Innsbruck which is a fabulous place to visit, and just outside innsbruck is the winter Olympics ski jump etc. I've skied in this area a few times.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

You can ski down from Schilthorn to Mürren - just make sure that you don't take the bit further down to Lauterbrunnen :))
If you go there in summer, they have a cheaper ealrybird-ticket for the lift - before 9:00.
The Lasagna from the Lauerbrunnen campground was the best my wife ever had.

    https://mymuerren.ch/en/summer/

this is a good website and even in English YAY

it all depends on how long you stay in Switzerland. Piz Gloria will take all day really unless you sleep in a hotel in Mürren, but even then it'll take almost a day as you will not want to leave again once you are on the Schilthorn :))

If you need travel tips, for instance from Zurich Airport to Mürren or wherever near the Alps I can help of course.

As for Piz Gloria, I believe you can make a reservation. Probably better too! http://schilthorn.ch/en/Angebot/Schilthorn/1_VIEW%3Cbr%3EPiz_Gloria_2970_m_._9744_ft/360_deg_-Restaurant_Piz_Gloria

I spent a week in that area in 2007. (Wow, 10 years ago already!)

We stayed in Lauterbrunnen, and split our days between several of the main skiing areas, such as Kleine Scheidegg, Mannlichen and Schilthorn.

The visit to Schilthorn was great. We went up in the cable car to Murren, then to Birg (which is where we see Campbell looking up towards Piz Gloria and trying to get onto the cable car). We did some skiing around Birg, and then later in the day took the cable car up to Schilthorn/Piz Gloria. I really enjoyed the experience of visiting the location. Unfortunately as a skiing beginner, the ski run from Schilthorn down towards Birg was a bit too intimidating for me so I didn't get the experience of skiing down the side of the Schilthorn.

Thank you everyone for your help. Right now I am thinking:

    Munich
Piz Gloria(I am not so secretly hoping Mr. Vesper has contacted Higgins about the OHMSS ring. It would be sooo romantic :x )
Grindelwald ( I am going to go paragliding!!!)
    Interlaken

    What do you all think?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a neat place to stop in between Munich and Grindelwald? Would Vaduz be worth a stop?
