I am interested in WW2 history and only a couple of years ago I visited a WW2 show weekend. There were all different people, men and women of all ages dressed as WW2 soldiers. There were even the German soldiers with all the vehicles and the equipment. I did see one man in full uniform with the German troops, he stood out to me straight away and I was going to ask him why he wanted to be the German but I did not get chance to ask. He was a black man! I suppose that unlike the real Nazis the pretend soldiers German Waffen are equal opportunities employers?!

I know there was an Arab Waffen-SS unit near the end of the war, but I don't think there ever was a black one. There was a Korean unit in Normandy in German uniform. They had been captured by the Japanese in Korea, then fought the Soviets and got captured and later fought the Germans and were captured by them.
Getting captured turned out to be a good way to survive and see the world B-)

Personally I don't see a lot of difference between "Nazis", "Fascists" and "Marxists", in the end they all murdered millions of people for one or another causes...I remember a quote to the the effect of: "All they were fighting over in the 1930s in Europe was the color of their armbands."

I think Nazis make great villains because they are low hanging fruit.....everyone hates them....

I knew there was a Arab SS unit but not about the Korean unit. The black man I saw was part of a German unit - this was a real Nazi unit of the war years. This would never have been allowed in real life by the nazis and I think that some peoples who were at the show who did not know the history might think that black men were allowed in the waffen forces of Nazi Germany? I think the man perhaps should have thought about how he could misrepresent the real history. I wanted to ask him this but i did not get the chance to speak to him. It is strange to me that these peoples are historical enactors but allowed this to happen? I think if the black man was turned away from joining then there would be problems but i think to explain about the history and ask him to join the allies forces instead were black men did really serve would have been better for the history. I wonder why he was wanted to join the Nazi enactors anyway?

Unfortunately in today's world things like facts, history and the like are shunned for the sake of the new four letter word; diversity. :#

The so called "enlightened" and "tolerant" will forcefully push their agenda on whatever they see fit without regard to anything or anyone despite the glaringly obvious irony of THEIR fascist behavior.

All the while calling others fascists. Smh. :s

I have written this on the notepad before posting it here and taken care to hope I am understood.

Perhaps education can not only be given to people who do not know the history but also are afraid of the events and people they see around them today? You see I think that to forget history or change it to suit politics is to make sure the same thing happens again. Fear and ignorance is a powerful weapon to some people who choose to hate and only understanding and education can help to change this. There does not have to be an agenda, only a desire to tell the truth. Truth is different things to different peoples I know.

Some people see me like this: a foreigner, someone who comes here with his family to take from the country and who must be given a house and benefits. I laugh at how soft the country is and only wish to change your traditions for mine.

But this is the real truth: I am a black African. I am a refugee. I live in England. I was forced from my country but will return home as soon as it is safe for me and my family. It is my only desire to go home. I thank England and English people always for giving me safety from death but I do not want to be here, that does not mean I am ungrateful but I have lands and a good life in my country. I do not wish to come here to make people change their ways to suit me or my culture. I live by English culture because I am the guest. I ask also for no special treatment. I work hard and I pay the taxes and try to be the good citizen while I am here. I think and hope many are educated enough not to think that all people who come to the west are doing so to make trouble and take your women or wish to make you live by their ways. There are people like this I know but these are only a few.

I did not ask the black Nazi enactor so I do not know the story, I only can wonder why he wanted to be a Nazi WW2 soldier and why the others did not say that it would be wrong by history for him to be in their group. I only perhaps think that they would let him join for indeed this 'diversity' you speak about.

A question I should have asked is why they also would want to dress as WW2 Nazi soldiers? Yes I know it is history enacting still why the Nazis?

First of all I'd like to say that I have a lot of respect for you and your present circumstance. I hope that you are able to return home if that is what you wish to do.

And yes, we don't know the whole story with the gentleman you saw so my comment was merely speculation as to how he ended up being accepted as a Nazi re-enactor. But my comment was also stating what we see happening all too often with regard to diversity just for diversity's sake and to hell with the truth, history or what is fair or honest.

The problem with that kind of thinking is that besides not doing anybody any justice, it also starts to become a hindrance to the whole idea of what it was trying to accomplish in the first place.

Take here in the U.S. for instance. The liberal camp likes to say that the "mean" conservatives don't want immigrants coming here and that is a ridiculous and utter lie. What most conservatives have a problem with is the ILLEGAL immigration, there is a big difference but again the truth doesn't fit with the liberal agenda. And that also applies to the issue of racial problems, where they take things out of contexts to help further their true agenda and increase the divide and discourse in this country.

This topic can fill up volumes of books as there are so many things at play here and a lot of those things are interconnected and I'm not a Sociologist or Anthropologist by any means. However I do have eyes and a brain and I'm able to see the double standard when it comes to certain issues such as race, nationality and the like.

Thank you. I respect your viewpoint. It is your right to think and vote for who you like. I do see sometimes people who make issues about race when there is no reason. I think you could look in the Dunkirk film topic.

What made me uncomfortable about the black Nazi enactor was that people who have no idea of history might think that the Nazis may have had black soldiers in their army, not in special regiments for black men (this did not happen any way) but integrated into the Waffen units. If they did think this then they could also possibly think that the Nazis weren't too bad if they had mixed races of soldiers in their army. Perhaps I over reacted by thinking this but many times I see and hear people who have no interest or understanding of history to make this possible.

I agree with you 100% my friend and my only wish is that we humans learn to look at and judge each other not by race or what we look like but by our actions.

Like with our former POTUS Barack Obama, I was actually a supporter of his during his first running for office. But it didn't take long to realize that he really didn't have an actual plan for the goals he had for his platform. He is a great orator, I'll say that but no real substance. It had nothing to do with race but only to do with his ability to effectively lead the country. But if anyone were to bring up his shortcomings the liberals would immediately play the race card and call those people racists.

Now conversely they are constantly criticizing and undermining our current POTUS Donald Trump. They call him every name in the book and even start drifting to insults about his physical appearance just short of using racial epithets. But in today's world that's OK because he is white, male and as far as we know heterosexual.

Just in the same way the oh so "tolerant" and "accepting" liberals try to silence anyone who has a different opinion than theirs. How many times has there been something in the news about how the so called antifascist disrupted and in some cases prevented a conservative speaker from speaking at a lecture or function. They do exactly what the Nazis did in Germany, to silence the opposition and deny another opinion. Frequently with violence! And then to top it off they call the people who they are preventing from exercising their 1st Amendment Rights fascist. Smh.

Absolutely diabolical and quite abhorrent and it should cause people who believe in a Democratic society to worry about the direction we are heading.

As you stated before, those who choose to ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

Amazing how those who preach tolerance are the most intolerant of all.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

I said on the political thread that everything soon comes to personal insults, most about Donald Trump. I am not for or against Mr Trump but I only know he was elected in a free and fair vote and that makes him the legitimate leader and that is why I would not insult him personally. Yes I also see that insults are many times only one way. I do not know much about the politics of the west but as I observe I think that the policies of many western governments have led to Brexit and Mr Trump. By this I mean many governments refuse to listen to their people and when when they are then allowed to have their say those same leaders do not like the answers they are given. This is when the real extremists can find they have support.

I'm like you Joshua, I'm not a die hard supporter of Trump. He has made some needed changes. Now has he made some poor choices and made comments without thinking? Absolutely, but overall things like the economy are starting to improve.

The Federal government is FINALLY enforcing the immigration laws, which of course is terrible to the liberals. And California is doing all it can to outright ignore federal law and is refusing to do what they have a legal duty to do. Which goes to show their true colors.
