    Any ex-boy scouts here?
    They should know.

Hmm, it could be a large wall and crown knot with a close back splice? Or maybe some sort of modified monkey’s fist made with thicker rope and the close back splice?

Also this thread is fairly on topic for the off topic area.

They should have kept the carpet beater. More realistic.

Probably is some sort of take on a monkeys fist or turks head, monkeys fist generally looks more symmetrical where as this looks a bit more plaited. Interesting when you look at it.

Well it's definitely back spliced with a whip down the splice a bit, but the head of the knot still a little confusing. My money's on a modified monkey's fist or turk's head (kinda like this http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-ball-and-rope-dog-toy/) however instead of trimming the ends of the fist or head, the splice is started straight away with the ends.

I'd like to know why the op is asking? Could he have a daughter who is bringing her boyfriend home to meet her father for the first time?

I wear an ice hockey mask and fire up the
Old chainsaw on greeting my daughter's
    Potential boyfriends ;)

Although knots can be fascinating in this

    On famous movie knots.
Jaws gets a mention obviously, along with Casino

I think this poster's topics all seem to have a short and sweet fun vibe to them.
