Kim Jung-Un is visiting South Korea, the first time ever a NK leader visits SK. This is promising, but it's still early days and NK is an insane regime. So far it seems Trump's aggressive style on Korea paid off. He obviously isn't the only factor, but the US did things differently and things changed.
It could have gone horribly wrong and and it still can go horribly wrong, but it needs to be said.

This is all being pushed by China (well, at the urging of other countries). China has foreign interests who are telling them if they don't get the Korean thing worked out, it's going to bite them on the rear economically. Without China's backing, NK is nothing. Always follow the money.

To my mind it's still better than the prevarication of the Obama years.

Thank you for teaching me a new word :D
If I understand "prevarication" correctly you think Trump is more honest than Obama? Please explain...

I use it only in the sense that he gave the false impression that everything was fine and dandy in the world when it clearly wasn't and isn't. He had presidential power but he chose to do nothing very much with it. As a result, and on his watch, the problem of ISIS and the so-called Islamic State worsened, the Taliban got a bigger hold in Afghanistan again and tensions grew over North Korea.

Obama was a ditherer in comparison to Trump who is at least doing something. In terms of North Korea, this something seems to be working. Doing nothing and hoping the problems sort themselves out on their own is no longer a viable option.

What is the point of having power if one doesn't dare to exercise it? Obama played it safe and that's why we've been left with the mess we're in now. Trump now has to clean up this inherited mess and take the blame accordingly for the previous slumbering Obama administration.

In many ways, Trump stirred things up, and along with China helped
to bring about this lowering of tension. ( in my opinion ). Although
these thaws in relations between north and south have happened
before and got nowhere. Hopefully this time China has Convinced
N.Korea that Trump is unpredictable, and will retaliate, with
sanctions or even military actions. He's not like Professional
politicians, he plays by his own rules and who knows he may
actually be more successful at it than the so called political experts.

Thanks, now I understand. You have a point. Obama did like diplomacy and non-intervention and in the case of NK it didn't work. Trump has been unpredictable and aggressive and so far it seems to work. He did run the risk of the whole thing ending in a disastrous war, but so far it hasn't happened. Perhaps this time his style worked. Perhaps Kim Jung-Un recognized his own bully style in Trump?
Not that Trump is as bad as Kim, obviously.

Why doesn't Thunderpussy's posts reach to the end of the screen like most people's, instead

they tend to only get about as far as this before they
head onto the next line, unlike most posts you see.

As I suspected. I would also urge everyone not to read -{ TP's posts backwards :o

Back on topic: I don't think you have full grasped the implications of peace on the Korean peninsula.
    Kim Jung-Un, Trump and the President of South Korea might get the Nobel Peace Prize next year -{

Sadly these days the Nobel peace prize is a bit of a joke :#

It's the most important peace prize on earth.
We have to remember it's (originally) for making peace treaties and disarming armies, not for being a nice guy. That said, I'll laugh and cry if Kim and Donald get the Nobel Peace Prize. :#

If they do manage to bring peace to the Peninsula, Then they deserve it As the old Vulcan expression has it " Only Nixon could go to China". :D

It's interesting that the Korean war is officially over after 68 years.
I've read a bit about the inteligence side of the "hot" part of the war (1950-53). General McArthur disliked special forces, so he banned the SAS from contributing. It was the first major war for the CIA. They organized guerilla units the NK coast, but the landscape was too open and barren and the NK regime too brutal and well informed. Very few survived.

It looks like it's amateur hour again in the Trump administration. Secretary of State Bolton suggested a "Libya solution" to the nuclear situation in Korea. Did he know what happened to Gadaffi (English spelling?) is just what the NK regime fears and has been used as a reason to have their own atomic bombs? Gadaffi gave up his nuclear program in return for the lifting of sanctions. Then came the Arab Spring, NATO became the rebels' air force and the rebels killed Gadaffi. If Gadaffi had atom bombs he and his regime would still be there, claims NK (and not without reason).
Being unpredictable and having a big mouth isn't a foreign policy, even though it might have worked once.

Kim and Trump has made a gentleman`s agreement, but neither is gentleman. Still, this is a positive Development. If this works, Trump should get a Nobel`s prize. It`s only fair since Obama got one for saying Nice things. I`sceptical. Trump has given away military excersises in Korea. A major card he gave up for Little or nothing. I Wonder What Fox News World have said if Obama did that?
What makes me think this might work is The fact that Trump seems to like and admire dictators more than democratically elected leaders. Just look at What he says about the leaders of Canada and Germany vs What he says about the Russian and Chinese leaders. One of the things that worries me is this: when will Trump say or tweet something that goes completely against What he said today? Tomorrow, next weekend, in two weeks ?

This probably has something to do with Trump feeling bad that he was not democratically elected himself. If he won the election in a democratic manner, he probably would be more respectful to other leaders who have the votes of their people.

«Kim Jung-Un loves his people - not that I’m surpriced by that.» tweets Donal Trump.
This from the same man who a few days ago insulted the Canadian PM and called him a liar.

Well in Trump's defense, his rhetoric would towards Canada would be a little different if they were threatening to nuke the U.S.

I don’t see how that’s in Trump’s favour. Can he only admire leaders of nations that treathens the US with nukes?
