Yes, but this was 60 meters and the skier isn't even professional (I think)
Besides, think of all the car jumps you've seen in Bond movies, not to mention action movies in general. Why not ski over water, especially since it's very Bondian?

Like skiing behind the plane in LTK?

But why would Bond surf in the dessert?
Besides, it's just a slower and warmer form of skiing.

    Yes, but no.
In short, awsome skiing scenes in action movies are few and far between.

Perhaps there's a reason for that, Difficult to film, Location and weather problems etc ?
I enjoy a good ski chase, but there has to be a reason why its not used more.

I guess ski scenes are (I guess) often harder to film than car scenes for the reasons you mention. There is also the fact that skiis are much more rarely used than cars in ordinary life. But if the ordinary cinema goer is asked what movies are known for their ski scenes, many will reply "I don't know". But I think no other movie or franchise will be mentioned more than James Bond. This is despite of no ski scenes since TWINE and no really good ones since AVTAK in 1985. It's time.

Surfing in the DESSERT?! That's a trifle confusing. Desert is one S and pudding Dessert is two eSSes.

Bleuville. Just finished the Bond book-Forever and a day. I'd give it 8 out of 10.

****, Blofeld is back. SPECTRE is back. These are honestly dreams come true to a Bond fanatic like me.

I really want a good old-fashioned world-domination scheme brought back. The cheesy old Bond schtick. I might be in the minority, here, but Blofeld is back. He needs to be played out. Big time. Bond needs a super-nemesis - it's the only way the Bond schtick will survive in the Marvel superhero age.

I take it that most of us has seen the new Mission Impossible trailer? Wow, it looks like they are feasting on the 007 playbook again even with a terrific looking punch-up in a Toilet. Imitation is flattery but as far as action goes the recent MI films just do it better. Bond 25 has to decide if it wants to piddle in that pool or not. If it does it really needs to up its game.

I still don't know or care much about Ethan Hunt, but unless we get more dimensions to CraigBond I'm starting to not know much or care about him either. I think and hope it's possible to do this without mining his past (I don't care if he was never breast fed) I'd like shorter, sharper more inventive action but real tension and a worthwhile mission.

The new Mission Impossible film looks like a "Bond greatest hits"
Homage. :D although after all these films, I still don't care about
Ethan Hawk , he's still simply a generic hero character.
It is odd when Bond was going all action, many were calling for
Less action and more story. Now we're getting more story, and
Characterisation, ..... and the calls have started for..... more
    Action ! :)) ....... who'd be a producer.

Looking at Box office figures the Bond films still make far more
Than the MI films. -{ so at least the public appreciate quality
    Even if some fans can't :p :007)

I remember when Bourne was going to kill Bond as a series.....
    ..... I Wonder how that's going. :))

I’d say the Bond series can take some notes. Fallout has been getting some incredibly impressive reviews and I gotta admit it’s definitely the film that I have been looking forward to the most this year —

“...one of the best action movies ever made...”

“...intensity that will remind you of The Dark Knight and plenty of the unique flavouring that has turned this franchise from ‘Tom Cruise:Generic Action Man’ into the most exciting, inventive and just-plain greatest action franchise around.”

“...this movie is sex.” etc :))

Skyfall and CR also got some fantastic reviews, ;) as well as making
The list for the most successful British films ever ! So I think Eon
Might just know what they're doing.

It looks like Mission Impossible is best at action now, mainly because Tom Cruise is insane.
MI has always been to thin on character and mood, something Bond has gone overboard on during Craig's time as Bond. When Cruise gets to old to play Ethan Hunt and Daniel Craig gets too old to play James Bond things will probably even themselves out.
  • walther p99walther p99 NJPosts: 3,416MI6 Agent
It's crazy how those MI films just keep getting better and better. Suppose EON should be happy B25 doesn't come out until next year so they dont have to compete with another MI film again.

I love the fast and furious films, and feel they too keep
Getting better and better, but I don't think the Bond team
Are too worried about it :D
I do find it amusing when a new film cones out and
People start having orgasms about it. :))
I'm looking forward to it, and will enjoy it, like the others
but, like Kingsman, TMFU, it's a fun action movie and if it
Gives the Bond team a few ideas for action sequences,
That's fine. Although in my book, Bond is the origin of the
Species and will always be the best -{ .... ( to me at least ) :007)

No question, the trailers for the new MI film look great and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
For me however, it's still not Bond. There's just something special about the Bond films that appeals to me. There's no sense in comparing the two because despite the similarities they are two different beasts. To me, the MI film series is far and away the best of Bond's children. I also give most of the credit for the success of MI to Tom Cruise. IMO, without Cruise and his devotion to (obsession might be a better term) performing great stunts and his on screen star power and charisma, the MI films would just be another bunch of run of the mill action films.

For me it's not a binary of action versus story I'd like less overblown 15 minute helicopter stuff but shorter sharper action that moves the narrative. Yes we have had 'more story ' but hackneyed and inward looking in my view (Mommy dearest/ Home Alone, and the whole doomed Retcon of Spectre)

In terms of characterisation Craig is talented actor but he has not been allowed to give us the rounded portrayal I know he's capable of. It's all a bit one note to my mind. I'm optimistic about 25 and hope he will be able to finally render his definitive fully formed Bond.

All could be true but the figures show the public watch Bond in
Larger numbers than the MI films. So to change a winning formula
    To a less successful one seems ..... " Illogical Captain " :D

Then again as with all things, what the hell do I know :))

One of the most interesting things about Eon's treatment of the Bond franchise is to see them taking the concept absolutely to the furthest extreme and then pulling back. Perhaps Spectre was the You Only Live Twice/Moonraker/Die Another Day of the Daniel Craig era and we'll see a different approach.

    Pure speculation, obviously.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 21,701MI6 Agent
I hope/think so too. Perhaps Bond25 will be more a thriller, more like FRWL, OHMSS, CR?

I hope that you're right. The Craig era has been established as the "gritty" and "serious" incarnation of Bond. Of course there's still humor in Craig's films, but the lighter tone and slap-sticky nature of some of Spectre felt woefully out of place.

Why do you insist on the Bond v. MI stuff? As Bond fans, I think we can enjoy both and appreciate areas where Bond could benefit from emulating MI.

Others are pointing out how Bond should change, and be more like the MI films. or didn't
you bother reading any of the posts ? as it's fairly obvious :s It does seem strange that on
a Bond forum a member can be attacked for Defending the Bond films ? .... You do understand what
    a Fan is ? 8-)
