The poor guy. This one is a real shocker. Kitchen Confidential was a real eye opener to many and Bourdain's life and career were an inspiration.

Could remove them if it makes you feel any better but I didn't know the man in real life to talk about him as someone close to him, I was merely an observer.
While I do agree that he was a flesh and bone human being, and one gets the choice to live or die, I expressed my personal opinion of his mental state in the days leading up to his death.
Everyone can show and conceal their emotions but actions speak louder than words, and if he did truly commit suicide, well, that speaks for itself.
I visited a place for lunch today called Donkey's Steaks that Bourdain visited a few years back as part of Parts Unknown. I had been meaning to go but just never got around to it and also its in a pretty seedy area. But with the sad news today I just had to stop by for their famous cheesesteak. I'm lucky I was able to see him when his show was in Philly in 2016. Such a great personality and storyteller who I'll definitely miss on my TV screen.
I'm surprised to be the first to post this. . . Eunice Gayson, who played Sylvia Trench in Dr. No and From Russia with Love--the very first Bond girl on screen and the first character to set Bond up to say his classic "Bond, James Bond" line--has passed away at the grand age of 90. Rest in peace, lovely lady!

Sad to hear of the death of the original Bond girl, Eunice Gayson, at 90.

A decent obit to Eunice Gayson is in today's Guardian newspaper.
It mentions that her voice was dubbed in the films - as befitting most Bond girls and a good many actors too - but you can hear her original voice in the trailer.
Actually older than Connery, so not that young then. Mind you, Honor Blackman was also older than Connery. Doesn't happen often, as the Bond stars got older.
Steve Ditko 90. Ditko was a legendary comic book artist and co-creator of Spider-Man. Famed ski-fi author Harlan Ellison has also passed away recently.

oh no, you're the bearer of bad news for me CoolHand. I'm a big Ditko fan. He plotted and drew the first 38 issues of Spider-Man. He was also the cocreator, artist and plotter of Dr Strange.
Those were really the two big ones he did for Marvel, he tended to focus deeper than Jack Kirby, who created most of the rest of the Marvel Silver Age characters, and spread himself more thin. Ditko also did some key early issues of The Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man, revising their initial looks and concepts.
He left Marvel early on, on a point of principal he never felt the need to discuss. whereas Kirby very publicly split with Stan Lee and gave interviews and sued. Ditko chose to work in relative obscurity the rest of his life, for much less money than he was capable of earning, and sticking to his principals (he was an Ayn Randian, and some of his later underground comics read like Atlas Shrugged with word balloons).
I'm trying to find some examples of Ditko's Dr Strange art, but most of what comes up in google is from blogs or pinterest, and I'm not confident it will still be there tomorrow. So instead here's the random results of a GoogleImage search, I urge all comics fans to check it out. That's a pretty psychedelic imagination for an Ayn Randian! The Dr Strange movie did not come close to capturing the feel of his art.

It's odd, I've been reading Niv by Graham Lord, about David Niven, and he was only 73 when he died in 1983 which is really no age. Yet he seemed quite old, I mean I guess that's what comes from drinking a bottle and a half of wine a day. He died of MS which back then took no prisoners. Still, had he lived to 100 he'd have died in, well, 2003. A lot of stars died pretty young back then but seemed old anyway. Niven did have a bad personal life behind the cheery facade, however.
The terrible thing about these atrocities, is how many we've had in the past few years.
So many angry, crazy, violent people about. All angry at the world for different reasons.
