The time between Spectre and the new film? WW2 did not take much longer and I think that war involved a little bit more planning than any James Bond film! 8-)

It is good for her I think that Barbara Broccoli works for her self. I do not think she would be able to take so long if she worked for a big studio? There is really no excuse for such time to elapse. What I can not understand is why when Spectre was being filmed that were not working on the next film script and getting the plans ready to film it. Perhaps two and a half years between the films is acceptable but not five years! No body can give reasons only excuses for that. I could accept reasons but never excuses.

If she is not interested any more then she hold sell to some one who is. I think something very spectacular has to be made to justify this time between Spectre and the next film or Barbara Broccoli will do what no enemy has done and kill James Bond!

Good thing it isn't going to be five years between these films!

Broccoli has been working on other projects. It's not 4 years and a bit between films for her.

Though it is certainly four years and a bit for every one else. The people who pays to see these films. Spectre 2015 the next film February 2020? Does Barbara run the Eon company on her own in her spare bed room? Has she got staff? Can not she do more things than one at once or supervise her team to carry out things on her behaf? There is no reason only excuse. I think she is not interested in James Bond films any more and really not perhaps interested in making them. She surely would be more - I don't know the word in English - interested (?) in making the James Bond films and even if she wasn't she could have her team of people do it while she does other things?

''What Daniel Craig wants, Daniel Craig gets. And what he wants is to make his own version of “From Russia with Love” (1963), arguably the best of the James Bond movies and Sean Connery’s favorite. And now, with the signing of Cary Fukunaga as director, it looks like Craig’s going to pull it off for his fifth and final outing as 007.''

Would be fantastic news if it's true, Fukunaga does fit the rumour.

I have a feeling that article was probably a twisting up of something Craig may have said. By the time it makes the rounds it'll be that they are remaking FRWL. My guess is that Craig wants to make a film more on the level of FRWL, not a remake. Something a bit more down to earth with a good strong plot with some twists, intrigue, and good action. More of an espionage thriller with great action than an action film with a spy. Something also more akin to CR. It is ironic that CR was looked upon as eschewing some of the longstanding Bond film tropes, but it really was much closer to FRWL in its own way. I that what Craig is rumored to want is a repudiation of how SPECTRE turned out. Yes, Craig is going to rake in a huge boatload of money for Bond 25 and he could get away with sleep walking his way through another mediocre Bond film, but I don't believe this to be the case.

That's how I interpreted the article. A redo of FRWL would be ridiculous, but a classic spy thriller like FRWL or FYEO with Craig would be great to see.

Speaking of Beasts of no Nation, it would be cool to see Bond in the midst of a civil war like in the novel Solo.

I think there is a desire for a spy thriller Bond movie among the fans now. Trying to compete with MI in filling the Movie With crazy action scenes and stunts won't work, so using FRWL as an ideal sounds smart.

Here isa trailer (actually a very tense and emotional scene) from Fukunaga's "Beasts of no nation" starring Idris Elba. What I have seen earlier from Fukunaga has been in very muted colours, but this movie has very vibrant colours.

Has anyone started watching MANIAC on NetFlix....would love to hear other opinions as I am about 4 episodes in. The plot and the show is coming off very sluggish for me, but then it was Friday after a long week...keeping optimistic.

I binge watched the whole thing yesterday and I found that it got better and better. The scenes with Justin Theroux are fall on the floor funny. It's a weird show. No doubt about it, but I think that's more a function of the concept and the writing than Fukunaga's direction. There's a long shot action scene in one of the later episodes that is extremely well done.

I think Cary is going to do a kickass Bond film.

Non-PC link maybe, but my sister saw Crazy Rich Asians and on her info I suggested actor Henry Golding might be a Bond contender, and with a US-Japanese director, who knows?

Fukunaga will have absolutely no influence on who will play James Bond in Bond25.

John Glenn thinks the hiring of Fukunaga open up for the Americanization of Bond. I'd say DAF and his own LTK are the most American Bond adventures so far, so he should be careful who he points his finger at. I could also mention that Fukunaga has lived in London, France, Japan and Mexico in adition to the US. He speaks several languages, one presumes English, Spanish, Japanese and French. I'm not worried Bond25 will end up feeling too American.

In terms of influence, the future of Bond has much bigger things to worry about than “Americanization.”

Well said. Some people tend to forget that from the very start, cinematic Bond was run by an American... And currently run by two...

I excitedly told a friend of mine that we had a new director in Fukunaga, and proceeded to inform him that he was the guy who directed True Detective season 1 (which we both held in high praise), then went on to say that he would be the first US Bond director. My friend immediately jumped past the True Detective link to begin blabbing on about Bond in danger of becoming Americanized, blah blah. 8-)
Always have an escape plan. Mine is watching James Bond films.

IMO, this "Americanization" of Bond thing is silly. Here a few names: Joseph Losey, Cy Endfield, Richard Lester, Richard Fleischer, Stanley Kubrick, Sidney Lumet. What do they all have in common? They are all film directors. They are all American film directors. They all directed great British films. British films that were very British...not Hollywood versions of Britain. I think Fukunaga has the potential to do the same. Fukunaga in his short statement regarding getting the Bond 25 job seemed genuinely humbled and appreciative of the opportunity.

Bond 25 is scheduled to release 51 months after Spectre.

I'm sure it's just the nature of the business, but I'm pretty sure the breaks for the DC movies are the longest in franchise history. Outside the transition from Dalton to Brosnan.

    QOS-SF 4 Years

    SF-SP 3 years

    SP-25 4+ Years

Truly amazing considering these long hiatus between films are all without a change of actor playing Bond.

It‘s a shame really, so much potential got/ gets wasted. DC could have brought 6 out by now..

Couldn't agree more. My fellow board members who are concerned about the lack of "Britishness" seem to be unaware of the nationality of the tandem that runs the franchise at this moment...

Furthermore, what makes the movie "British?" I don't understand ascribing an ethnicity to a movie (sans, say, Japanese when the movie is in Japanese and made in Japan). It's absurd to demand that every aspect of making a Bond movie be "British" when it's Hollywood that is distributing and controlling the purse strings of the production.

It‘s real fun when you think about it: with the delay of Bond 25 the producers were able to bring out only 2 movies in one decade... 8-)

It will still be within a decade. 2012 to 2020 is three films in ten years. Craig’s first decade of Bond got 4 films. It’s not as bad as it seems.

If you look at it like this, then yes. But I was referring to the calendar.
I was they had a rythm like back in RM‘s days. That would‘ve been perferct.

When you look at Craig‘s Bond, in the first two films he is a young agent, new to the game; in SkyFall he supposedly is already to old. The in between was missing.

The Americanization argument is a silly one. The western is a uniquely American genre of film and a lot of the best ones were directed by Italians who filmed them in Spain.

Let's face it: the Bond films from the start have been international films--the home production company, EON, is based in the UK; but they've always boasted international casts, locations, screenwriters, and, as observed, producers. Further, they've always depended on international box-office receipts--especially in the US--for their success. In a lot of ways, the Bonds predicted current trends: how many "Hollywood" movies today have non-American directors, mostly British and Australian cast members, and are shot outside the US? I'm no longer sure what constitutes an American or British film. . .
