Re: Bond 25 + Future Bond Score Composer

I listened to the track by the way.
It was fantastic

If parts of the new film are set in Scandinavia, they could get the reformed Abba to do the song!   ajb007/martini

Hmm....like what I'm hearing from Justin Hurwitz from the First Man soundtrack. I like what he does with horns and it sounds like he has the potential to do a "proper" Bond score. The key here is "proper" Bond score which too me is Barry influenced (call me old and stubborn, I admit it ajb007/lol ).

I agree that Hurwitz sounds good. He's able to write music with substance. And I agree that a Bond score should be Barry-influenced, both in style and substance. The most memorable film scores from history have been scores with substance, and scores without substance are currently in style. I think that more musical film scores will come back into fashion, once people realise that their film scores will never go down in history alongside ones like Lawrence of Arabia, Psycho, Star Wars and You Only Live Twice.

I think the Newman scores do it rather brilliantly: taking the big, lush, high quality adult feel of Bond but without trying to ape Barry directly and finding a new way to represent Bond's world. But that said, I do certainly hear a lot of that more trad old school approach in Hurwitz's First Man and I'd love that approach for a new Bond too.

Re: Bond 25 + Future Bond Score Composer

I rarely walk out of the cinema anymore remembering anything about the score of the film I just saw. I remember when before you even saw a film, you knew if anything that it would have a memorable score just based upon the composer. John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith, Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Basil Poledouris, and others I just can't think of at the moment were an important part of a films pedigree.

Wonder if we'll ever see a return
From the 007 theme by John Barry
Which was first included in FRWL, Thunderball
& i believe its last appearance was Moonraker.
Im sure its unlikely but it would be a nice nod.

Imagine like half way through bond 25
Theres a awesome action scene and
It kicks into full swing.

I recently heard someone say how it wouldnt work
But i actually heard it in the recent Trainspotting 2 which was directed by danny boyle & written by john hodge.
Before they were announced for bond 25.

I thought it worked well, imagine david arnold, or michael giacchino recreating it.
Besides more or less all of Barrys scores are timeless
Think Out of Africa, Dances with wolves most of Bond.
Except maybe OHMSS with the moog, which is still ahead of its time in my book.
Also the drum machine in TLD.
These are however still great.
