Did the GG appear to have been updated in any way?

I contacted them about the cane and they said they were doing one correct to the mask so, of course ... NOPE!

The SPECTRE cane that FE is going to make, is the cane Bond uses against one of Sciarra's henchmen when Sciarra jumps into the helicopter. The cane can clearly be seen in the movie. In my opinion the cane that Bond carries with him when he wears his mask and Day of the Dead clothes, is another kind of cane.
The cane that FE is going to make is very nice but it is a pity that it will not be the cane that Bond uses with his Day of the Dead outfit.

So, over in Facebook land, Factory Entertainment added some close-up pictures and in their comments confirmed a new edition of the Golden Gun :D
Although they haven’t confirmed how it differs from their Mk1 yet, they have said that it will be 18kt plated and should sell for less than US$800...

Note that these are prototypes here and no release dates have been given yet.

I asked Barry what some of the details were on these releases....this is what he sent me:

It’s insane here! Busiest comic con yet

Here are a few quick pics, I’m back in the office next week for a chat

We are just showing the items for amusement and interest no firm details or prices yet - we are asking people to sign up at factoryent.com/jamesbond for updates as they become available

    The revealed items are

Q-Pin - this is reissue at 007.coms request, just new packaging.

Thunderball SPECTRE ring - 18kt vermeil with a white gold ‘center’ stone

SPECTRE mask - cast directly from the hero prop, in plastic with soft touch velvet lining. Likely to be supplied with the helicopter attack cane head - as a set. The head only BYO cane. The reasoning being that the actual prop cane was a piece of painted dowel wood and rather underwhelming. We know it’s not the cane Daniel carried in the opening shots... but trust me I’ve examined that and NOBODY wants a replica of that!

And finally some shiny golden thing that a few people like. On display is the tooling master which is going off to the tooling company straight after the show. We can talk about it in more detail. The base/stand is the prototype stand.

Hope that helps - now I gotta get back to the madness

Not quite true but from a commercial standpoint, understood.

    I need that mask!

Yes the mask looks excellent! From what I can see in the pictures it even has the SA glasses temples to hold it on.
  • MikeG77MikeG77 Posts: 1,770MI6 Agent
Do we have a general idea on what the mask will cost?
I know where you keep your gun!

I reached out to FE - The mask does indeed have the glasses/arms rather than the elastic.
  • dajohancz93dajohancz93 Posts: 1MI6 Agent
There were actually two types of the mask, both with elastic and glasses arms and both are SA. Up until the last cut before Bond enters the hotel room, he has a mask with the elastic. It can be noticed if watched closely. It can be seen in the picture as well.

The one sold at Christie's had elastic, which I point out in this vlog:

Please note, and forgive, the illicit twang that I give the elastic.

Let’s hope they don’t make it with that cone shape. All of the original screen used ones had a fitted top as you see when Craig takes his hat off. They got cone shaped through being stored with the hat on or by being stored upside down in the hats. Being rolled up in bubble wrap in storage did the same job too, but for screen accuracy they should have domed fitted tops to them. All of the screen used ones can be moulded back into shape with a little heat. You can’t do that if they’re moulded with a cone shape in the first place, so if FE go that route, they can’t be fixed.

I'm pictured here standing with mask-maker Robert A. (who also made the hero masks for Estrella and Sciarra), holding the chief of six Daniel Craig masks. The mask has been given to a private collection. You can see the shapes described above.

Yes, they all have that shape now, but they didn’t when filming. Ask him and he will confirm it. Any mask made the same way with the jaw fixed as it is will go that way. What I’m saying is, if FE make it cone shaped to start with, it won’t be accurate.

The earpieces were adjustable on the originals too, albeit on a non permanent basis, so it will be interesting to see how FE tackle that.

Exactly, the jaw has to move. Thanks for your contributions. My picture was meant to show the custom top-of-skull build.

Cool prop to add to a collection but...

"The moulds for this replica were cast directly from the original prop in the EON Productions archives and each replica is hand made to create a high quality reproduction of the original."

...it does look a bit different to the original though. For that price I'd want it spot on.

Screen used cane from Christies auction:

I agree, it looks quite different. Perhaps there were several variants made for production, and this is a mold from a different skull to the one seen at auction?

    Much better! :D

Still, some of us could make one for a fraction of that price.

All of FE’s replicas have been far from accurate. Even the Q pin was the wrong size. The only prop that has come close to the original was, ironically, the one prop they didn’t have in hand to replicate - the Thunderball breather.

This is typical of many licensed replicas though, so maybe it’s a contractual thing. I think they are meant to maybe represent how the props are perceived to look on screen, rather than how they actually look in real life.

    Im not sure about the new version of the pin, but they had the dimensions from my original for the first run, and it was pretty close -{

it was the right size, the clasp was correct, just the edges were slightly rounder on there's compared to the original, so very close.

So, you are saying the breather was 100 % Singe made a resin prototype from our version made with original components but it was not 100%

Have you taken over for Higgey this weekend :D

So much truth in these words, this is why I actually own no licensed replicas.
