has anybody been watching DC Comics' new teevee series Doom Patrol?
    trailer
I don't have cable and have not yet seen it myself, so I'd like to know what I'm missing.
I am curious for two reasons...

    1. most relevant to us, Timothy Dalton is in it.
He plays The Chief, leader of a team of misfit superheroes
    Doom-Patrol-The-Chief.jpg

    2. it is based on one of DC's weirder comics from the 1960s, which was then revived in dark psychedelic style by Grant Morrison in the 1990s.

Just as an FYI, I do not believe Doom Patrol is on cable. I believe it is on DC's streaming service so if you have internet access and a supported streaming device (Roku, PS4, etc.) you can sign up for a month, watch the episodes and then cancel out if it's not to your liking.

I just finished a superhero series on Netflix, The Umbrella Academy. This one took me by surprise: a group of dysfunctional superheroes get back together after the man who raised them and taught them (sort of like Professor X, only he's a complete d**k) dies. The characters are engaging, and the show is often very funny. And you have to like a program that features a knock-down, drag-out fight while Lesley Gore belts out "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows." It's already been approved for a second season, and maybe Netflix will keep the commitment. . .after all, it's based on a Dark Horse comic, not one from Marvel.

Star trek discovery season two. Much better than the first season. The addition of Captain pike is amazing and he's fast becoming my favourite trek captain!

I really like Anson Mount's take on Captain Pike as well; he is by far the most interesting character on the show this year (his performance in Through the Valley of Shadows was especially well done and one of Discovery's best moments so far). Ethan Peck's Spock is also growing on me, though I'd really like to see him ditch the beard and hair and get in a proper uniform before his time on Discovery is done.

Sonequa Martin Green on the other hand continues to be problematic for me. She may be the de-facto "star" of the show but her habit of always interrupting and trying to one up her superior officers is grating and the writers' attempts to always make her the smartest person in the room is off-putting. Star Trek has always worked best as an ensemble and even TOS was strongest when Kirk, Spock and McCoy worked together to solve problems. Turning her into this know it all who always has all the answers does her and the show no favors.

At this point, I'm ready to say good-bye to Discovery in favor of Captain Pike show as we still have years of stories to tell before his fateful incident on the cadet ship.

    Yep.

    Absolutely love it.

It's not a series you can't pop in and out of though. If you hadn't seen the previous series you wouldn't have a clue what's happening.

Yeas I fully agree - apologies if my post was slightly misleading ... you most certainly have to watch from the very start of the first series.

Got so many theories as to who the mysterious 'H' is!! ?:)

I have been watching some of the 'Callan' programes on television. He is not James Bond, but more a bit like Harry Palmer. I have found them entertaining. I watched the film a short time ago and that was very good.

    Yes, Callan was a very down beat security series -{

On a similar genre, I've started watching Spooks
    ( a series about MI5 ) from the beginning, can't
    Praise this series enough.

Watching the chase tonight, I heard an odd fact about the X-Files. Apparently
Pamela Anderson was going to be Dana Scully ! :o

turns out Doom Patrol is on the Space Channel, Tuesday nights at 9pm. Also streaming from their website but it looked better on cable.

I caught an episode this week, episode 3. They travel to Paraguay. It was like a dark psychedelic black comedy superhero version of Boys From Brazil, with a certain Dead Kennedys Nazi-themed song I cannot name in a family forum played over the big action sequence at the end.
No Timothy Dalton is this episode though, the Doom Patrol are on a quest to find their missing Chief.

EDIT: looks like Space Channel is a Canadian cable specialty channel, sorry that doesn't help folks elsewhere

Caught the end of Star Trek : Discovery. The second series
Was better than the first and I'd love to see a spin off show
With Pike and crew. -{ But, I still prefer The Orville :D

I'm watching the second season of The Handmaiden's Tale. I admire that the series dares to have an opinion and a real message. (and no, the message isn't "hate men" :)) ) the cast is great. Elisabeth Moss has made a career out of high quality TV, and it's great to see Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) and Alexis Bledl (Gilmore Girls) in roles that are very different from the ones that made them famous.

Have you watched the first series?

It’s a great show, both funny and sad - and filthy :))

Don’t think she wrote much of the second series of Killing Eve as she was doing Fleabag.

Be interesting if Bond broke the fourth wall like Fleabag :))

I'm still on series one. Haven't had the time to watch the rest yet which is very annoying.Hopefully will rectify it at the weekend. X-(

True, it's open to interpretation like all great art should be. It's been said he could even be referring to Prince Charming! :D

Perhaps Baron Samedi at the end of LALD would be a better example of a character breaking the fourth wall in LALD though?! :))

in a couple more days will be the last Big Bang Theory ever.
any predictions what will or should happen?

there's a lot of continuity geekery in this show, written by for and about nerds who care about continuity geekery, so I expect some long running plot-threads to be resolved.
