Thank you sir! I hope you noticed your Speedos made it in there!
I did indeed, what a shame those long options don't come in a shorter length, anyhow, the speedos go nicely with my pink ted baker shirt for the Tb look.

Inspiring post! There was also a second pair of swim trunks in CR that everyone seems to forget about. I actually prefer these over the La Perlas!

What does everyone think of these as budget alternatives for the J Crew Kentons?

They're not as tall and are definitely a more casual chukka, but they're the right colour with a brick sole.

Thanks! I did remember those but I thought the alternative I shared would cover both. The Sauvage ones are actually closer to the 2nd pair. I should have been clearer about that.

Since the top of the boot is covered by the pants I think they will work great! I'll include them in the June Best Budget Finds post with credit to you!

Just finishing up the safari jacket post for tomorrow!

    Cheers!

I think those look very good. FWIW I owned the Kentons in the wrong color (Boulder) and wasn't a huge fan of the style or fit. The boots work fine with the polo and suede racer outfit, but I've never felt they belonged with the sport coat and tie ensemble. Even chukkas (like these) would have been better.

Canoe2 - exceptiona work as always! I am always in awe of your dedication to find high quality, low cost alternatives! As one who ‘loves the Bond look’, but don’t necessarily need to wear the exact product, your work is very much appreciated.

And to Chriscoop - those Speedo’s were a great find! The label came off easily and the look and feel great! Thank you Sir.
    Yes. Considerably.

Glad you guys are liking the posts!

FYI: SSENSE is having a big sale on RM Willaims boots right now. Sizes are going fast, but prices are 25% to 40% off on different models.

Another great post, but it still amazes me it's a thing right now.

If you asked me last year "What do you think is going to come back into fashion in 2019?" I definitely wouldn't have answered Safari Jackets :))

It is funny. Outside the scope of Bond fandom, the "hashtag menswear" crowd is wearing it in this contemporary, casual Italian style with tailored linen trousers, loafers, no socks. This kind of sums it up:

    084b6c80ae433f6081a50a91ba23d6c5.jpg

I actually quite like the look if you can pull it off. But I don't know if it's for me for daily wear. I think it can look pretentious and costumey if you don't have the right attitude about it. Anyway, since the M-65 jacket is so over hyped now, it was logical designers would look for something similar to play with. I think we can blame Ralph Lauren, Cucinelli and Ford in large part for its return.

I have a "4 ways to wear it" for the safari jacket coming in June. I'm interested to see what I can come up.

Sorry to get all "fashion talk"! 8-)

Edit to add: I usually avoid using Yoox as a source in the posts since their inventory shifts almost by the hour and they never have a full size run in anything (usually it's just one or two pieces left in a particular product). Plus it's almost impossible to search that damn website! X-( But they do have some really nice safari jackets right now from higher end designers at great prices. Might be worth checking out.

Have always loved that picture classic Bond. Looks like a Fay Dalton painting.

I wear a safari-ish jacket quite often, paired up with either chinos or jeans with a pale t shirt or polo under and either some pumps or chukkas, it's a very versatile jacket and comfortable too, it may look denim but it's brushed cotton pique type material.

Perhaps not really a budget alternative, from a Swedish fashion site: https://www.careofcarl.com/sv/artiklar/gran-sasso-safari-linen-jacket-green.html

That's about $360 USD, correct? Very nice! Shame they only ship to those 4 countries.

Chriscoop: I really like the way you're wearing that jacket!

    That's a pretty accurate estimate.

I found another site that seems to ship internationally: https://baltzar.com/products/gran-sasso/green-linen-workwear-overshirt-2/

That Gran Sasso shirt is so nice it might actually persuade me to give the "safari" style a try.

Suit, I'm going to include that Gran Sasso in one of the upcoming posts (probably the one on Father's Day gifts). Credit to you for the share, of course! It really does look nice! If that's a style more of you like, you really need to check out Lopez Aragon (https://www.lopezaragon1976mto.com/home.php). That guy also makes some beautiful lightweight jackets. Prices are about the same as the Gran Sasso (so not cheap). But definitely quality. I think he's offering a 20% discount right now as well.

Post update on the Ryder IIIs:

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2015/11/30/church-ryder-iii/

Not the most exacting topic, but a staple we all need.

Working on the posts for Bond Summer Shirts Part 2, the Father's Day gift guide, Best Budget Bond finds and a couple of others.

    Cheers all!

Ok, glad I could be of help :) Yes I checked the Lopez Aragon and it looked nice. Is it made to order?

Happy Sunday! New post: Bond Summer Shirts part 2

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2019/06/02/james-bond-casual-summer-shirts-part-2/

Tackled some of the tougher ones this time: DAF camp shirt, LALD black silk shirt, and CR white Bahamas shirt.

Great article, John. I may pick up the M&S pale blue polo.

Wouldn't the current short sleeved version of the Tommy Bahama Catalina Twill shirt work as a LALD silk shirt alternative?

I thought about that one and was going to add it. The thing is the LALD shirt is so fitted and the sleeves are pretty short. The Catalina is a boxier cut and the sleeves alomost come to the elbow. So I decided to use slimmer cut alternatives instead.

Obviously not the screen accurate pair, but how about these as a budget alternative to the navy blue zip pocket shorts seen filming in Jamaica?

For £7 I ordered a pair and will whizz them round the sewing machine to shorten the leg length........I'll post pics when I've done them.

Those are great! I completely agree with you about just getting them shortened. People do it all the time with trousers. Shorts are even easier. Wish I saw your post before I published the Budget Finds post! They would have been perfect!

Chriscoop: thank you, sir! The Amazon store was a little weird. They actually invited me to create the store through one of the affiliate programs I use. I checked out the program and thought it was a good way to organize all the alternatives I see on Amazon and it could be useful for U.S. based readers. As I said, I do make a little money from each sale, but Amazon commissions are really low (like 2% to 3% depending on the product). So ain't no one getting rich off of it! :))

Sorry about the business talk, but I like to be as transparent as possible with everyone here about the website.

    Cheers!
