I think this episode about the Muller Report on NPR's "Left, right and centre" is very interesting and worth listening to.

The new Ukrainian president, comedian Volodymyr Zelenskij, is interesting in many ways. Like Trump he has no political experience and wants to change the political system dramatically. But he isn't a far-right populist, he isn't very rich (unlike his chocolate producing predecessor) and he has no political party!

Since Ukraine has a dark history when it comes to anti-semitism and Russia tries to paint the country as fascist, it's worth noting that Volodymyr Zelenskij is a Jew.

The Chinese government still defends the Tiannmen square massacre after thirty years:

So, it has been widely reported that "The most truthful Person" Donald Trump has -among other things - called Megan Markle "nasty".

All Fake News of course, just like the man says himself:

Now The Sun has made the audio public, we can all hear it at around the 1:57 mark

will the POTUS now apologize to CNN, the NYT and others like he was demanding vice versa?

He also made it clear he doesn't know what's meant by Climate Change ….. "I can say we have one of the cleanest climates in the world right now. Our air a and water is doing really well." Must be from all the clean coal :))

Trump gets caught in lying several times a week, can anyone tell me if he's ever admited to lying?

I think, in one of his books, one rule was never to admit. Never back down.

Has anyone else watched "brexit behind closed doors" it's basically 2 years worth of film following Guy Verhofstadt and comes from the eu perspective!
All I'll say is that watching this was a real eye opener, I think if this had been shown before any brexit vote the result would have been very different and by that I mean even more of a majority for leaving. I know the British are hated by many but I had no idea of the utter contempt we've always been held in by our eu counterparts.

I saw the first episode last nght. It's very much worth watching.

I particularly liked the bit where the eu discussed running down the clock! Oh and the bit about forcing their agenda "so the air gets thinner and thinner" for the UK!

I suppose that programme just galvanised your view that the eu has large elements of anti democratic values that are hell bent on the federal state of Europe at any cost.

I've been watching 30 minutes now and am surprised, that that's what you are getting out of it.

Let's remember, the UK wanted to leave. It's not the EU that kicked them out.
And I fail to see hate there against the UK. It's a professional negotiating team with principles.
The UK hopes that the EU would be paralyzed by a potential Hard Brexit (which is basically the only leverage that they really have in the negotiations) have been absolutely and totally wrong. I remember the "whistle" comments right at the beginning and the arrogance that the EU would be dancing to the UK negotiator's tune. Again. Wrong!

The EU is based on compromise, but it has principles. Principles that are not for sale.

If the documentation shows anything it shows that the cliche of useless and spineless EU mps is totally wrong.

I applaud Verhofstadt and Barnier, a very good job done!

I know that this is the non-argumentative thread, but some of the previous comments were calling for a response.

One commentator on youtube put it pretty well:

    >>From the beginning, the British approach to the Brixit negotiations was, and is, based on delusional nonsense, toxic nostalgia, and wishful thinking. The phrase involving the inability to organise a drink in a brewery comes to mind...

The EU negotiators were, and are, both coherent and transparent about their negotiation stance.

Basically, the British amateurs went head to head with a team of seasoned, hard-headed, professionals.

And now we are where we are...>>

I suppose different eyes see different things, one thing I've taken from both programmes is that the often denied "project" has become an obsession amongst some, Verhofstadt included and any who threaten this must be punished ie Britain for daring to leave.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

That's the legend that the UK is cultivating for 3 years now. Always the victim.
And always the EU being evil.

    The UK want to leave.
Everything that happens is a consequence of the democratic decision that the UK people made during the referendum.
Barnier and Verhofstadt are negotiating with the interest of 27 countries and their people in mind.
Their job is not to make it easy for the UK by giving up EU principles and present gifts to the UK who give nothing about the damage that they are doing to the EU.

Mr. Johnson or everybody who follows Mrs. May will learn that quickly.

I hope that the UK will leave as soon as possible without a deal so that this is solved very clear and the responsible people are clearly visible.

No one asked for or expected gifts, but it's not too much to expect honest and good natured negotiations. Remarkable how the UK have always been blamed for running the clock down when it was actually an EU tactic hatched by the narcissistic players within that group in the documentary, its also obvious where tactical leaks to the media came from.
It was either that.....or the priesthood
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,618MI6 Agent
The clock was running down because the UK started it running down.

And perceived from the UK is was running down because the thread that they'd be leaving without a deal did not work.

I can't see many narcisstic people in the docu.
They are Brench and Belgian and Europeans, they are like that.

The "narcisstic" part sounds like it comes from "sore losers" imo.

    The UK decided to leave.
The UK totally overplayed the card with the threat of the potential Hard Brexit
And the UK failed in dividing the EU during the negotiations.

Now blaming others for the ongoing total desaster which is totally self-inflicted just shows that the UK are still in the state of wishful thinking.

And let me add, negotiating tradedeals with India, China, the US and Canada will be similar, just that the UK don't have the leverage with a Hard Brexit in their hands.

You're correct Higgins, the UK did vote to leave the EU and an orderly and respectful negotiation should have been the modus operandi, as it always should be with such important issues, as I said some of the players on the EU have approached this in a cynical and derogatory manner not only to the UK government but to the people of the UK, they have come accross more like mbers of Putins government with a smash them into submission attitude and that has been laid bare, by a Danish filmmaker, Verhofstadt proves his narcissism purely by displaying his contemptable attitude in the full knowledge it was on film.
Following on from this, my opinion is the sooner we adopt wto rules the better, then go and negotiate with the EU, who have more pressing issues anyway, Brexit has afforded them respite and distraction from their own failings, failure to address the issues that led to the eurozone crisis 10 years ago, the economic restraints that have led to Italy falling into recession with their Banks tittering on the edge of oblivion, Macron and Merkles big central fund being watered down and no clear policy on dealing with the Chinese mega firms.

I remember one Tony Blair berating Farage for his attitude towards the EU parliament, he got quite angry and said something along the lines of "that is no way to talk about our neighbours and Friends" seems some in the EU don't share Blairs sentiments either.

    Really?

I remember some very unfriendly remarks towards the EU from some Brexiteers and like N24 said, it would be interesting to see the negotiations from the UK side.

I am sure that everything went there like a cultivated Club, drinking tea reading the Financial Times and having only cultivated conversations.
It would have been particularly interesting to tape the Checkers Meeting conversations.

I think, that you are over-sensitive, Chris, all I can see are pros who negotiate a deal within their principles and in good spirit.

So, when does the second part show on tv?

I‘ve finished the entire documentary and see nothing disrespectful against the UK people.
Some bad jokes from some aides, but no narcissm or arrogance.

My respect for Barnier and Verhofstadt grew and the negotiations have been very honest and respectful as far as I can see.

Just look at the 0:40 mark where some MPs are trying to flipside things about Ireland and put the blame on the EU and how he reacts.

Fox News just interviewed Trump for the D-Day landings celebration, and obviously the US president lied.
“Secretary Stoltenberg has been maybe Trump’s biggest fan, to be honest with you,” Trump said. “He goes around telling — he made a speech the other day. He said, ‘Without Donald Trump, maybe there would be no NATO.’ ”
But there's a database of every speech and statement Stoltenberg has made as General Secretary of NATO and he never said such a thing.
