    My good friend and neighbour from Germany bought me back a bottle of Monkey 47 gin from his recent visit back home to Coburg. I have never heard of this brand so has anyone here tried it and can suggest a good mix to make a cocktail? -{
    Make it into a martini, its made with lingonberry and has more flavours than a British gin or even a sloe gin, which have juniper and obviously Sloe berries in. It can also be made with a decent tonic but pesonally I'd add a wedge of lime not lemon. Enjoy CHB. -{
    It was either that.....or the priesthood

    As an asthmatic I'm surprised to see that asthma is on this list as well but I imagine if we applied this list to modern society a lot of us would be committed :))

    For the last 5 years I’ve enjoyed a walk on the beach followed by a drink in one of the bars and since my maid has passed her driving test I have been able to enjoy an alcoholic beverage as drink driving has harsh penalties over here. The beach I enjoy most is the one pictured below (with my chauffeur), it’s quieter than most because it is stony but has lovely views as you can see ;)

    I‘ve never been a fan of L. Hamilton but great gesture to get Vettel to the Nr. 1 podium and absolute p!ss poor show by Sebastian Vettel.

    Today my father and I cleared a road of the 1830's for branches and small trees using cutters. Actually the first hundres yards or so were improved as a "new deal" project during the 1930's, but the rest of the road is about 180-190 years old. My family clears the road each year. My dad walked, skiied and ….. sledged (?) on that road to school when he was a boy, but a new road came in the 1960's. No-one else lifts a finger to preserve it, but we enjoy doing this :)

    On the other hand the first ever good Viking film won't be buildt on a novel written by a friend of mine ……. or at least it won't happen in many years yet :#

    I suppose there wouldn't have been very many more concerts from the King after that considering he died less than two months later?

    There were a good few, SM- see http://www.elvisinnorway.no/index77.html The significance of Rapid City is that this is where much of the footage from "Elvis In Concert", his last TV appearance, was shot.

    Thanks for that, Barbel. I'm no authority on Elvis! I do have a book somewhere on his later years though, which was from around that time and had a lot of pictures. I recall someone saying on the TV years ago that Elvis sounded like an opera singer at times towards the end, due to his increased weight.

    Well, I'd dispute that his extra weight affected his voice as much as

    (a) his drug use (there is a clear change in his voice around 1971- while he's still good thereafter, his voice is never as wonderful as it was before although it does have its moments)

    (b) natural ageing, which does affect the singing voice though not always for the worst (Sinatra sounded a damn sight better in his forties than his twenties, for example)

    A lot of this has to do with his choice of material. Elvis did sing his early songs (All Shook Up, Jailhouse Rock, etc) right up to the end but gave them short shrift by singing very short speeded-up versions while giving more emphasis to big ballads (such as "Hurt" or "Unchained Melody") which naturally involved more high notes and dramatic singing. It all comes down to taste, really. Many enjoy the "big" songs (his version of "My Way" was a posthumous hit), some feel it was a waste of his talent.

    As to "opera"- Elvis was a high baritone who could hit Gs and As (even Bs occasionally) in full voice with little effort (and in falsetto reach E) but more importantly his tone could suggest tenor or bass according to the song while conveying the emotional aspects of the lyrics to the listener in an almost unequalled fashion. If in an alternative universe he had been an opera singer then he would have been a baritone- though he would have dearly loved to have been a bass!

    And the 5 sec. penalty was ok.

    Been gone for a while and it's old news now, but screw Lewis Hamiton.
    Screw Mercedes.

    Mercedes has been dominating for about a decade now but when Ferrari starts dominating like the noughties...oh no. We can't have thaat. We basically have to murder the whole sport to get them off of it.

    5 sec penalty was bull but then again it's all just further evidence that F1 is basically dead. They can't overtake w/o DRS anyway.
    Don't even get me started on those wheezy V6s.
    a reasonable rate of return

    Barbel's post was interesting.

    Sinatra vocally went off I guess in the late 60s, that said his song Wandering is an overlooked gem:

    Wandering

    Astaire came back to redo his songs in the 70s for The Golden Age of... perhaps to tie in with the success of That's Entertainment! but it's a bit thin.

    Paul McCartney's voice now reminds me of John Lennon - shot to pieces.

    His songwriting is still good - but if only he'd get someone else to sing 'em.

    Speaking of music; I had no idea whatsoever that Cristopher Lee had not one but several heavy metal albums.
    Random to have found that out from a Judas Priest interview. Makes Lee all the more fascinating, if that even was possible.

    I should give em a listen at some point.

    It’s always nice to see pics of pretty girls so this is one of three girls representing Cebu in the Mutya Pilipinas 2019 beauty pageant. Mutya Pilipinas translates to Beauty of the Philippines.

    8-F6-B20-B6-CBC9-428-A-A235-CF6-CC86019-BA.jpg

    There are literally thousands of beauty pageants here in the Philippines, every city, town or village seems to have one as part of the local festivals which adorn the calendar.

    The major pageants are televised to massive audiences. I remember the Miss United Kingdom and Miss World pageants being a huge audience winner for the BBC until the left wingers took over and banned the broadcasting of these events. Over in the Eastern countries they are still hugely popular on TV with huge ratings.

    Are beauty pageants still televised in Europe and America?
    Do you miss them in those countries where they are banned?
    Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
