Topic: New QOS Harrington from Royale Filmwear (August/September 2019)

Hi everyone:

I just got my new Harrington from Royale today.  I had the prior version in a size medium and ordered the new one in a size medium.  I don't have the older one in front of me yet (it's packed away with my Fall clothing still...I haven't done a seasonal flip yet) but there are some immediate differences that I noticed immediately:

1. Fit.  The prior version was a very snug medium on me.  I could really only wear a t-shirt or a thin shirt underneath it.  With this new one, it's a tad looser in the body and definitely more utilitarian.  The shoulders are also a tad broader which is nice.  Where the older one looked painted on me, this new one actually has room to move.  I like this improvement a lot.  If you're on the fence as to what size to get, really take a look at the sizing on Royale and, if you have the older version, be aware that it's a tad bigger.
2. Material.  This coat feels softer.  My one real complaint on the other one was that it was a tad stiff feeling...no issues here.  This also has a nicer lining to it than the older one.

I think the buttons are different and I also think that the collar is a different size, but I'll need to dig out the other jacket first to make sure.  Regardless, I really love it.  I'm not seeing any glaring flaws on it (there's one iffy stitch on it but nothing to get into a twist over) or issues, so I think I'm good to go!  My wife loved it when I tried it on for her just now...she remembered the other one ('what do you mean, you bought the SAME JACKET????') and thinks that this one fits better.

Nice job, Dan!

Thanks for the brief review!  Please tell us if the collar stands on its own or not, as we can't tell from the photos.

I got mine in the mail today.  I like Daniel Love very much but i'm just too big for his items.  I got the XXXL Jacket and its very short and very tight.  If anyone is interested in buying please let me know  It can be altered for a smaller person.

Dear Sirs,
Could anyone owning both please compare the cloth of the Royale jacket with the one from TF?
Thank you.

I just received mine today and can confirm that the collar does indeed stand on its own.  For what it’s worth, I think Dan has knocked it out of the park again.  ‘Course I said that about the last version. I questioned whether I should bother buying another one because I think the 2018 version is pretty terrific.  But this new version is just slightly better with the improved material and slightly bigger collar. If this is Dan’s swan song for Royale, it’s a great way to go out!

“What is your occupation?”
“That’s not the sort of thing that looks good on a form."

Yep, the collar stands up.

I dug the prior version out of storage and will take some pictures comparing the two jackets later on today so that you can get an idea of the improvements.  Short version: if the prior version was a home run, this new one is (for me) a grand slam.

OK, here we go.

It's a tad roomier in general, as I mentioned in an older post.  The shoulders are a bit broader, the sleeves are a tad longer, and the body itself has a smidge more room.  I love it.  The material looks the same but is a tad more soft/flexible in the new version as well.  I was wrong about the buttons being different.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the new version.  I can layer more clothing underneath it and get more general use out of it.

Thanks for the comparison.
Honestly, I find the old version nicer on you.

It's great but it feels like it's painted on.  Movement of my arms is a tad restricted because there isn't any real extra material in the back.  Also, I'm wearing a very thin shirt in both pictures.  In the Old Version, that's about all that I'd be able to wear because there simply isn't any additional room.  If I'm only wearing a thin shirt, then yeah...the Old Version is the way to go.  If I want to layer, I have to go with the New Version, and that means that I can wear that one deeper into the Fall season.

That said, I appreciate the compliment!

Re: New QOS Harrington from Royale Filmwear (August/September 2019)

Hi guys.

I received my Royale Harrington the other day, the first one, never owned the former models, and I must say that I'm really impressed and pleased with it !!!

I don't own a Tom Ford model so I can't compare both garments but honestly, I don't need that. I'm sure Daniel made a great investigation job to realize its model and the result is gorgeous.

I put my Royale Harrington the other day at job and I received compliments on it.....and it's true : it's a nice, nice jacket.

Like I said to Dan, I will sell my Baracuta G9 as my Royale will easily do the job for a long time.

Thank you for the exceptional work Dan.

Cheers
Fred

@gymkata could you share your measurements? I am tempted by one of these...

Is the collar size accurate to the Tom Ford version, I don't know if it's the perspective in the photos, but it looks way bigger than the previous version?
