Not only does the regular versions well for significantly less at retail but when you factor in the depreciation of the regular models both new and used the price difference is insane.
I think the Spectre edition is a much nicer watch. If you are going to spend this kind of money on an Omega Bond watch, then I'd get that. It may not be the latest but it is a very nice watch.
Personally, I've moved on from Omega these days and I am a Rolex man. Rocking my 16710 Pepsi GMT II right now. Call me a pussy type of guy
.
Remember the watch is both titanium and a Bond edition, so you’re going to be paying quite a bit more than you would a regular SM 300m due to those factors—more so the fact that it is titanium but the Bond connection does add a bit of a premium as well.
Please don't fall into the titanium hype they are selling. Grand Seiko makes watches with some of the highest quality titanium for significantly less. Tudor has the Pelagos that sells for a fraction of the cost. Many brands work with titanium and it should never be a significant premium.
The Bond connection is what really drives the premium. The Spectre watch sells for more than double the cost of the regular 300 version of the watch these days but at retail pricing it wasn't too different. This watch is simply priced extremely high because they can. I think it'll be taking a decent hit off retail in the years to come.
All this being said, if someone loves the watch then by all means buy it. We all have our preferences. I am just voicing my opinion as a watch enthusiast that the pricing on this is not justified. As a watch on its own, regardless of price, I'm still not the biggest fan. Omega is making it a homage of the Sub that Connery wore and mixing in some Mil-Sub elements. I'm also not a fan of the Faux-Patina. I also do not like mesh bracelets at all.
If there is a Bond fan out there that is looking for their first nice watch, then I'd point them towards a Rolex Explorer that would be a lot cheaper and still has amazing Bond connections. If they want a dive watch, there is always the Sub or if you want Omega there are plenty of other dive options including the Spectre watch which you can get for cheaper than this on the market.
