    I'm stateside. $680!

That doesn't seem right. Did they deduct VAT? It should be £423.33 all in. At current exchange rates that would be around $550-560 before exchange premium. It looks like you were charged around £500.

The price I was quoted by Maximos was £460 for the jacket +£40 for the shipping. Plus the conversion fee on my mind. Yes, outrageous, but I wanted the thing.

Your point about the VAT was one that didn't occur to me. Do you think Connolly mistakenly worked a VAT into their overall price since they don't seem to sell much directly to the states?

I really like how it looks on Simon Crampton on his blog.

It's definitely a more sophisticated look than the Mango. I'm hoping to get a lot of use out of it during the hottest summer months.

What size have you take? And the mango one?

I took a large in the Mango (seems to fit). I provided Connolly with some information about my measurements (I take a 52 suit) and was advised to get a large in their jacket, too.

It does look great there: I really like it.

The blog itself is kind of hilarious though: apparently wearing a T-shirt rather than a collared shirt has an effect on how smart or casual you look. You don’t say! :D

Simon did a piece recently on "shopping on a budget." His advice was to get MTM shirts instead of bespoke! His commenters took him to task but he was gracious in his responses. He has expensive tastes but he knows about style and quality menswear.

    Connolly didn't deduct the VAT.

I'm in the US and had VAT deducted. I did bring that up asking for the adjusted price before paying. Contact Maximo about a price adjustment.

I pulled the trigger on the Connolly Jacket too and payed the same price like Cheverian (+£30 EU shipping). The Jacket looks kind of sporty in these photos from Permanentstyle. I like the Jacket on DC but it has something more conservative on it comparing these two.
It seems that Connolly just doesn’t care as much as MA for being a bond-brand. When I see all the instagram-posts, the little drawn artworks, the fast and professionel customer-service and the whole effort from MA you can feel all the happyness and proudness which is kind of great for them and the customers, it was/is a win win situation. Without any cost-increasing!

I get often a reply by Connolly when I sent my request twice yeah ok I can live with that but I was on their waiting-list and they didn’t contact me regarding the pre-order purchase :/
but it seems that its not easy for them to get the giubbino-material back, in Oct. sunny01 already wrote: „I asked if they could reproduce the same SA version and he said no as the material is sourced from 7 months before they make the jacket....if they do succumb to pressure and end up sourcing it then it will involve additional cost as it will be difficult to find the material.“.
ok so maybe I should appreciate their efforts around the reissue more.

Afterall I’m not sure about the sizing, it just doesn’t look as if the jacket got 63-69cm shoulders, they look kind of narrow on Permanentstyle but I could be wrong…I contacted them too but haven’t received an answer yet, so I will wait if you guys have more luck before I made my final decision

Excellent news. As we are on Sunday, I guess Maximos will answer in the beginning of next week !!!

Did he ask you something regarding the size of the jacket you ordered or is it something we will choose later ?

Super cool jacket and the pictures from the blog makes me really want it - sadly can’t justify putting down that amount of money after the price increase with the NTTD commando jumper and RGT jacket coming up. Too bad, because it looks unique!

I told him I want a XXL as I am 6,4 and usually a 46 inch chest so will take the largest one available. His original email had the same measurements as posted on here in previous threads.

I am going for the large at the moment. Based on the Simon Crompton pictures the given shoulder dimensions can't be accurate. While the chest will be blousey, I need the sleeve and body length. It's a linen blouson, so it should be a bit billowy.

I hope to get updated dimensions from Maximo soon.
  • TSRGusTSRGus Posts: 88MI6 Agent
Regarding the Connolly jacket.....It could be that the shoulder dimensions are odd because the jacket has a bit of a raglan sleeve look, despite it having actual shoulder seams. That may account for the unusually large measurement number seam to seam. Because the shoulder seam appears to extend past the shoulder joint proper, the sleeve length may then also appear to be odd. My N1 deck jacket has this effect to a lesser degree and as a result, the shoulder to shoulder measurement appears to be a larger measurement than most of my other jackets. If the jacket also has a high arm hole, this can make sleeve length confusing too.

But having submitted this, even the chest measurements (pit-to-pit) seem to be strange with the size Small having a larger measurement than most of my size Medium jackets. The cut is billowy, as has been stated but we are likely going to need much more clarification, especially considering that the waist has a drawstring.

To make things even more paradoxical, despite the measurement uncertainty, my correspondence with Maximos revealed that the jackets run true to size, generally.

This is likely going to be a case of "Zaritsky to the Rescue" once he gets the jacket(s)....

the photos on permanentstyle show cleary set-in sleeves and no raglan-sleeves

Yes, indeed. I suggested that the jacket creates a raglan type effect despite having seams.

No just printed and filled in the form and supplied copies of evidence the form asked you as best you can.
Also I wrote a letter explaining I thought it was too much.
Got a reply within 7 days with explanation of charges and a refund of £30 which takes about 10 days from receiving the letter.
I see Ferinstal has put the link on
    good luck

Even though I am getting a Small and a Medium, I full expect I will be a small....but time will tell!
  • TSRGusTSRGus Posts: 88MI6 Agent
Simon Crompton from Permanent Style advised that he believes his Giubbino size is a Medium in the images from that blog.

He submitted that the size Small was neater but that he needed to go to the Medium for length. He looks like he's on the taller side so this makes some sense given the somewhat peculiar measurements of the chest relative to the length.

Food for thought regarding the Connolly....

I have looked at the size list and will need the large for length although the medium is better for the chest.
