This isn’t screen used, but a SF commercially released Jack modified by the artist that did the original SF Jacks.

This version is really precious to me above the screen used ones as soon after she died of cancer. It’s been on my desk since 2012.

This is superb. Who was the artist and how did you meet her to get it modified?

She was a very private person and only did two conversions. She was lovely and didn’t even want paying for them.

I’d known her since 2005 when she worked on Dr Who, it was only through another prop maker that worked on Bond that I found out she’d been involved in SKYFALL. She never knew I was into Bond till then, and contacted me after she learned I’d got a couple of the originals, one of which needed repairing slightly.

One cool thing about the resin screen used Jacks is the base. They were marked with a T or cross shape so they could align with a corresponding mark on M’s desk for placement continuity. The early used damaged ones just had water based paint detailing that rubbed off on the head through handling, so this was later replaced with fine wires to simulate the cracks. These were glued on and were more durable.

"The early used damaged ones just had water based paint detailing that rubbed off on the head through handling" and then someone we both know and love? had them sprayed with lacquer to secure the screen patina for posterity and buggered them up because it made the water based paint run! :s

That's a great albeit sad story, Asp9mm. And a nice memento. Thank you very much for sharing.

New Jack has just been delivered. Not a massive difference to the SPECTRE version, feels lighter as porcelain and not stoneware.

Looks like there is even less detailing on this new one too 8-)

You are not wrong there. The lines etc on the face are less pronounced than the older one. It is lighter though

Thomo - thanks for the images! The new one certainly does lack definition - it is like a stone smoothed by water. Still, this will be the first Jack in my collection, so it's not too big a deal for me. Should get mine next week, hopefully.

I agree. I have all the 3 versions. But the difference between the Spectre and the NTTD is very minimal.
this never happened to the other fellow

The definition and paint job is quite different. The NTTD looks like a fourth gen recast it’s lost so much detail. The porcelain is very thin compared to the bone china and eathernware too. It has a much more delicate, egg shell feel about it.

Then the paint job. The NTTD is far less detailed in the weathering of the bomb damage, and the definition of the crack detailing too. That being said, if you’re a completist or don’t have the SPECTRE version, it’s still a great product.

I think that is a fair sum up. The details aren’t as good and as I mentioned it’s much lighter in weight. But as you say it’s still a nice piece.

Effectively.....they're not comparable regarding paintjob, weathering and deepness of detailing. It wouldn't be a keeper to me !!!

Almost sure the NTTD version couldn't stand a bomb damage ... :#

Quite surprised it didn't arrive in pieces though, what with zero padding in the top half of the box! :s

Is there a JB poster that features Jack the Bulldog for any of the recent movies? Even a fan done poster would be ok if well done.

Hate that I missed out on the original Skyfall one 8 years ago. Even missed out on the Spectre one after that. Not gonna miss it this time around....

Thanks to COVID, my new Jack got stuck in the post office for six months! I'd given it up for lost but as it was still alive according to tracking, I couldn't even claim insurance or a refund. Any way, he popped up a couple of weeks ago. Despite his long quarantine, he's in perfect shape although was rather ravenous and tried to eat my leg as soon as I opened the box!
  • ThomoThomo ReadingPosts: 949MI6 Agent
Excellent - well at least he arrived ok which is the important thing. We'll have to see where he pops up in NTTD
