The trouble is, in every shot that you see RM with a Sub on it is the 1680, the only time you see the 5513 is in that close up shot of him looking at the time just before Gibson is shot, Id go as far to say that that is an insert shot and maybe not even RM hand.

    Strange :))

You're right, and that begs the question:

What did the filmmakers intend? Did the filmmakers intend a 5513 or a 1680? Of course it could simply be that RM wore his own 1680 and when they did the insert shot, RMs watch was not on hand so they used what they had, the hold over 5513 from LALD.

Very, very interesting! Again, great find!
As they are showing us a close up of the 5513, Id say that is the one that they want us to think he is wearing.

I had a chat with majik007collector today and he told me that RM isn't wearing the 5513 all of the time in LALD either, and it isn't a Rolex.

Yeah, that's old news. I have seen those pictures before. Perhaps you're right. However I still think it's cool that RM is wearing a 1680 as Bond. A great find!

:)) maybe the 5513 shot was a leftover which was found on the cutting floor still there from LALD :D

So, I went thru the first 30 minutes from TMWTGG.

Whenever a watch can be seen, it's a Rolex Submariner or a Submariner Date.
The other (so far unknown) model is not seen yet - and I doubt that it'll be seen later
I've done several screenshots which I have to brighten up with photoshop later

I'll keep you all updated on this.

I was just researching and reading about Bond’s watches he’s actually worn in the movies - especially the various Submariner versions - when I stumbled upon this old thread which I herby reactivate. Since it’s been almost five years after the last post in 2015 I was wondering if there is more evidence and assurance that Roger Moore actually wore a Rolex Submariner 1680 in TMWTGG?

If this is the case it almost had to be a Red Sub - although I cannot recognize anything in red on the dial - since there was no 1680 “white” mate dial Submariner on the market until 1976 ... at least according to Hodinkee: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/rolex-submariner-reference-points

Would love to hear your thoughts and/or new clues on this topic.

Well, as it‘s very much likely Moore‘s personal watch, it could have been purchased much earlier than when the movie has been shot - or not :D

Hmm ... what keeps me thinking is this ...

... according to this comprehensive Rolex reference guide (https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/rolex-submariner-reference-points) - see also the table at the end of the page - the first Rolex Submariner with Date was released in 1969 and produced until 1976: the Red Sub. And if we ignore the COMEX (Mid 1970) which we can rule out because of the easy identifiable dial - the first Submariner with Date and “white” matte dial wasn’t produced/released before 1976.

It's so curious - in that same director's chair photo shoot at the airport, they pose him with the Sub:

    LALD-NOLA-SUB.jpg

How strange, that one has a date window which the movie one doesn't.

He's not in costume is he? I don't recall that outfit. So I wonder why bring that watch along? I'd say maybe they were using it for promo purposes for Rolex but they never really did that then, did they?
Very odd, well done for finding it - I've never seen that photo before.

It will be pretty plausible that this is the same 1680 that he‘s wearing thru TMWGG while the „official“ Rolex is the 5513 again.

I may be making things up but it seems to be a red Submariner print on the dial, which makes it a Red Sub then

So, I‘ll put out a bold theory now:
The Louisiana scenes where right at the beginning of the movie.

Moore arrived there with his private Tissot on the wrist and that‘s how the first shot was done
The 5513 was still being prepared in Pinewood and Rolex

    - either gave him a (closeby) 1680 for some promo shots with the watch
    - gifted Moore a 1680 - it seems to me that he‘s just having a new love- look on his face as he checks his new private watch.

Are we sure the Tissot gets some screen time in TLOLD?
Looks like a red sub to me too

I‘ve seen it also on Chrono24, but the dial looked blueish?
Can the metal strap still be ordered?

The dial color changes according to the light and angle.
    It is simply beautiful.
The bakelite bezel makes all the difference.

The bracelet is very hard to find, if not impossible.

Very well done, a very cool watch!
Roger Moore cool, it doesn‘t get any better!

Sooner or later one of these beauties will be added to the collection of Higgins.

The dial looks like almost like the iridescent exoskeleton of a beetle. It's very pretty in person.

Mine was $250 in 2018. I see similar conditions or better for $400-$600. Be careful of the case size; there's a smaller woman's version that looks very similar in photos.
